Bad politics. Was the favorite tenor of Adolf Hitler. But you are correct-if there’s anyone to challenge melchiors supremacy in these roles, it’s Lorenz.
@@Tulpenwiese Windgassen's voice was not huge but you shouldn't say he had "problems", that's not fair. His voice was beautiful and he was a extremely good Siegfried, Tristan, Tannhäuser, usw... for more than 15 years, until the late 60s.
Tbh with him and with Melchior too I feel like the freedoms they take rhythmically add life to their roles. It's probably one of the reason these two are the best ever imo. Yes, it creates issues for the orchestra but from a dramatic standpoint it just works to liven the emotionality of these heros.
what a voice! he sounds like a true hero....powerful voice without straining...unlike mdm,,,,, a true dramatic tenor....unlike mdm, doesn't strain.....
Majestic , heroic and powerful voice crowned by a beautiful tone and passionate singing
WOW!!! SO BIG...STRONG...FULL...AND NATURAL...as if he is just TALKING NOTHING FORCED for such BIG singing!
Before Del Monaco there was Max Lorenz. A true magnificent heldentenor unfairly forgotten.
Do not forget Lauritz Melchior
The most beautiful heldentenor voice ever
Omg. How great
MARVELOUS MAX LORENZ!!!! 🕊️🙏🎶💜😇
Why is he not remembered as the equal of Melchior? And he appeared to be a much better actor.

This is great to hear, wonderful singing but was rolling R’s a studio thing or would he performed live the same?
Ottima performance....heldentenor
He is just great. Yes, I hear what Windgassen said about him - problems with rhythm. But tone of a voice is just magnifisent.
and Windgassen had problems with the voice..

Windgassen did...? Strange, discreet as he was...
Windgassen was a lyric tenor who though sheer force of will sang helden roles.
