Words cannot express the wonderfulness of this amazing performance and this FABULOUS INSTRUMENT. Oh my HEAVENLY GOODNESS! Thank you so so very much for such beauty!
Dave, I accidentally stumbled across your video on UA-cam. Let me try to express the joy your video brought to me, as music is the most important thing to me, other than my first love, which is for God.
Tim, It was an absolute delight for me to give you a tour through the entire organ. Thank you for your genuine interest in the instrument. Paul and I really enjoyed having you here. You are always welcome and I hope to see you many more times here!
I was fortunate to see and hear Dave TWICE when he worked at the Milhous Collection in Florida. He is a genius. He played the incredible Walker digital organ and the pipe organ from the Wurlitzer home.
Thank you for posting! I'm visually disabled, can't drive but love this type of music. I try to get to Organ Piper when I can get a ride but... I was lucky enough to see Walt Strony last year up there and Jelani once in a while. Thank again for thinking of us who cant get there!! Thank you Dave!
The Grand Master gets his hands on it. Excellent and a treat to see & hear. I still laugh at the video distortion on the low but heavy volume notes. Happens a lot. The Allen Organ video of Hector Olivera playing Bach's Passacaglia & Fugue in C-minor is crazy wavy. :)
This is such a unique instrument since it has been salvaged from multiple organs. It holds its own as a wonderful theater organ, but is equally competent as a classical organ. 👍
Goofy thought ran through my mind as Dave played the early part of Windmills Of My Mind in that this should be standard music fare for carousel merry go rounds. I never bore when Dave is on the keys because you never know what or how he will play various songs. I love surprises.
@@scottmusic242 - I'll give it some thought as it is about 250-mile drive from western Indiana via Chicago (no go), or 325-miles the long way around via I-74, I-39, and I-43.
Was Dave involved in the tonal creation of this particular instrument? If not, he must have a 6th sense about what ranks and percussions are available to use on the Carma organ to reproduce his Musical Memory!! Like many very talented keyboardists, the music lives forever in their bodies and minds! Blessings. Fantastic!!
Dave was not part of the organ "creation" team. Century Pipe Organs are the builders. Jelani Eddington designed the console and also has done a lot of voicing and tonal work. There are other numerous important people that helped with the voicing, building, and maintenance....like Zach Frame who is one of our organists in local residence.
I keep coming back here to listen again (and Pt. 2). Absolutely phenomenal use of registration! Was there a rank not used? Dave is such a master of the of the instrument and his arrangements are brilliant. Thank you Dave, wish I could have been there in person.
For Dave to be able to play at all with all that's happened in the last year to his family is just incredible. Blessings on him and his family. I have a question about that plastic seat cover: why is it on there?
Hi...funny story about the plastic on the organ bench. Before the concert, Dave asked me if we had a plastic bag laying around. I asked...WHY? He said he wanted to put it on the organ bench because he didn't want to wreck the bench. I asked him to explain. He said that Virgil Fox (I think that is who he said) used to ruin the stained finish on organ benches due to sweating and sliding around. I told him he didn't need the plastic. He insisted!
One of the most enjoyable theater organ presentations I have ever heard. I'm 86 and have been a life long fan of both classical & theater organ music. Thank you Dave & all the folks at Carma Labs who are responsible for this remarkable instrument. Please keep posting your concerts on UTube One slight criticism: Some of your 32' pedal is not too musical. Could it be voiced a bit softer?
I recorded this on my cell phone, so the frequency range of the phone may not be as wide as one would hope for on the low frequencies. Additionally, I am only about 25 feet away from the 32-foot pipes when I'm recording. Because of my short distance to the pipes, the sine-wave literally goes over the top of my head and also goes over the top of the microphone on my phone. As a result of being so close to the pipes, you won't hear the full tone on the lower frequencies unless you step back another 50-feet.
@@scottmusic242 I'm amazed at this good recording from a lowly cell phone. Would love to hear a professionally recorded concert at Carma Labs with Dave at the console.
Did not know you had performed on Carma, my humble apologies, sir....i would still like to see, but being handicapped aka amputee bilateral, which happened when I was blown up. Hey I am alive. CLIff.. 🙏
Cliff, MUSIC is the 1 thing that offers us peace and solace, regardless of our circumstances. Right? I know music can change a bad day into a good one for me! 🙏 ❤
The organ is more like an analog synthesizer! It can create just about any instrument or sound! I hope it's going to be installed in some venue where people, someday, can enjoy the great sound! Too bad the organ wasn't seriously miced up, even for demoing. I could see mics being placed around various areas and mixed to create some awesome stereo sound! Right now sounds like the built-in microphone in the camcorder! Bummer.
I've listened to so many Jesse Crawford 78rpm records I didn't even notice until quiet passages when a very noticeable amount of hiss was present. I'm really about fidelity too and I agree with you though. I do however prefer the fidelity of 1930's orchestral backed pop music the fidelity it was recorded with.
This was actually recorded on my cell phone. The mic that you see isn't there to record or enhance the music...it is there for someone who sang along with the organ...and it was just the mic and a speaker on the floor so the people in the back could hear the singer. There are NO speakers connected to the organ. It is 100% air moving through pipes and the rest is the traps and drums...controlled on the organ console.
There are UA-cam videos, part One and Part Two of a "Sociable" Mr. Wickerham did on the Carmex organ. While it did not have, say, 16 mics .... it does sound wonderful. look for it. It is stereo and decent mics were utilized.
I don't think there is any way for me to post the specs in youtube. Currently, today, 9-21-2020, there are 92 ranks playing. In addition to that, 4 more unenclosed ranks have been installed and will be wired in about a month. After that, 2 more 16-foot unenclosed ranks are waiting to go in. In a few months, we will be at 98 working ranks. We already have them, it's just a matter of completing their installation.
Theatre organs were designed to play popular music of their day. The ones reinstalled in pizza parlors are often used to play today's pop music-- and (depending on the organist) some songs are more successful than others. I'd wager that particular song (which, incidentally, I like, and has a great typically-80s video) would be very difficult to put across nicely on an organ. I'd say "Ain't Nobody" could be done well.

Music is the universal language, not religion. Music Matters More.
I saw this in person. Dave is a keyboard genious! I am happy to now enjoy this posting. Thanks, Scott!
What an amazing performance on an incredibly complex instrument. I had the opportunity to see the Carma Labs organ in person and it is breathtaking.

Fabulous performance, marvelous instrument!
The Dave Wickerham PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA! my stars!
Awesome playing! Technically accurate while maintaining emotional content, with registration superb! Delightful!
I think I have figured this out. Dave keeps all his songs in Whatever it is he's Sitting On! Once again, Wickerham Magical Music!
Hey that was Tin Pan Alley!! Good stuff.
I swear that his playing is a loving hug between him and the machine
It is nice to hear a Wurlitzer voiced organ played as it was designed to be played.
Wonderful we need Dave to come to the UK
Looking forward to seeing you again at Blackwood, hopefully in 2021.
The Grand Master of Medleys
What a fabulous experience
Just awesome!

Live-action sound of console clicking is definitely different. Nonetheless this is a brilliant capture, RAW, and extremely well-put together
It ads a certain authentic charm.

Nice rendition of Al Hirt's Java, especially the pedal work.

What's the song starting around 21:00?
Java, originally by Al Hirt
@@harryhall5092 Vision On tv theme tune.
Al Hirt made it popular playing it on a trumpet in his recordings.
David Dunlap plays "Java" on a Wersi Scale on UA-cam. Give that a listen as well. I heard never heard of the W.S. until I saw and heard David Dunlap.
had...not...heard
You sound like a whole orchestra, only better.
So organ keyboard is triggerring the grand piano in the other room? perhaps you could show us next time?
HI Chuck....I actually do have a video that demonstrates this. Click on this link... ua-cam.com/video/jAxLv0glxdE/v-deo.html

Yessir. And isn't it wonderful?
@@JonasClark yeah imagine playing Madonna songs like U know the song cherish?
@@matthewneuls6245 It really depends on how melodic the song is. The more it's based on a heavy drum track, the harder it is.
His pumping the swell pedals makes me crazy! That’s not how it’s done.
Outstanding!
