This remaster was carried out by VGDC Forums veteran Neo Link as part of the VGDC Community Legacy Project, with the goal of converting and remastering all of Randy Solem's VGDC Flash movies to HD video for viewing on UA-cam.
The original .SWF was rendered into HD video with Swivel and put together in HitFilm Express.

That was the very first time I saw Mario and Sonic go to any duel. I remember this from 2003, in middle school. Before Smash Brawl finally made it official, I always look at this all the time. Looking back, though, this is short, and fans definitely tried to make their own versions much more intense than this, such as Death Battle or Scouthedog1 Animations. But this started it all. RIP Randy.
The songs on the intros are from Prodigy, who also passed. RIP
The part how Mario knocked Sonic's Spin Dash without the Cape in 3:22 ALWAYS make me laugh, though...

Hey, longshot, but me and my friend have been looking for a Castlevania sprite flash from those times. Anyone remembers something called maybe "Lazy Belmont" or "Lazy Simon"? It has the CV1 introduction where Simon walks up to the gate with the tune, but then it's locked, and he walks away again to the tune. It's dumb but no matter how much we look we can't find any trace of it.
I pick Mario because Mario is better.
