My favorite part was when King Triton clapped all the stray mermaid tail to have multi-ethnic daughters to fight racism.
That was in the cartoon tho
Everyone keeps commenting on how boring the sisters' original designs looked... That was the point? Ariel looked the most like Triton's dead wife, and their mom. That's why he was so dang protective
Just like his brother, Zeus. 😂😮🤔 wait.... that would imply he's Poseiden. Which makes him Hercules' uncle... hmmmm.
You misogynist. Isn’t it obvious Triton is raising his wife’s other six boyfriends’ daughters like a good husband should?
He's tasted the Seven Seas... and liked it. 😅
What hurts my soul is that there will be kids who will never see the original and instead see this movie. Also the fact some will defend this by saying they want to relive the original. Just watch the original! Seriously, it’s not like they didn’t exist. All in all, I plan to rewatch the original today and remember that great film.
Any decent parents will show their kids the original first.
That's why the new Star Wars movies and Trek movies didn't do as well as Disney thought they would - they decided a new generation needed new movies and would be an untapped audience, not realizing that most of those "new" audience members grew up watching the originals with their parents and that shaped their taste and their expectation of what a sequel should be.
Why wouldn't they see the original?
Disney: We're all about diversity!!
Black people: Oh, well, we do have some great African (diaspora) mythology that would make beautiful original movies--
Disney: LALALALALALALA You'll get our hand-me-downs and you'll like it!
*Disney:* "We're all about representation"
"Then why are you race swapping people from other cultures and giving inaccurate representations of their history?"
*Disney:* "Shut up you racist biggot, it's ok when WE do it!"
White people: You're a black person who doesn't like race swapping?? THOSE DON'T EXIST, YOU BIGOT
Disney: We got a black mermaid... what do blacks like... 🤔 ... RAP! They like rap! Put a rap in it! *snortscoke
@Jon Zoppa Bruh, what are you talking about? There are a ton of awesome rap albums? Listen to The Forever Story by J.I.D, it's a fucking masterpiece!
I’m willing to bet money that this is how their meetings go

This movie is so impactful, it eliminated crime in South America.
😂😂
Last time I checked South America is still a continent.
@@johnny.V03 should I name every country in South America?
I think the change that upsets me the most is that Eric doesn’t save Ariel like he does in the original. Because Triton goes on for the entire film about how all humans are dangerous. And while his prejudice is justified, it’s still wrong. Here you have a human actively risking his life to save his daughter and proves Triton’s point wrong.
And so, what better way to prove to Triton that Ariel will be happy than letting her go be with man who proved him wrong about humans? It’s a massive piece of character development for Triton that’s completely erased by removing Eric’s bravery.
The story of the original movie was never about a woman giving up everything for a man. It was about a father and daughter learning how to accept each other and about said father learning that he has to let his daughter be free to make her own decisions.
By removing this aspect, you remove a key aspect of Triton’s acceptance of his daughter going to be with Eric.
Well it's kinda Obvious Disney doesn't cherish the Movie like the Fans look what they did to it.
They used Halle Bailey as a shield so that if anyone criticizes the movie they all dang well knew is bad , Disney and "social Justice warriors" will just paint you as a "racist". I actually feel bad Halle was used by Disney for that very reason.
@@neko7606 I’m sure she wanted a break out roll . They probably sold her a dream this happens in Hollywood. There is always motives. Let’s just say she was aware then it is her own fault. I can see the complexities. Imagine if you got offered a huge roll and let’s just say their was no transparency, and you wanted so bad to be an actress you may take it! Young and naive but possibly not who knows. I would want something that showcases my greatness. She’s young .
Pretty much.
Same. From the bit I've seen Halle actually had a good singing voice but Disney just using her as a bullet sponge
What I don't understand is why Disney Didn't just cast Hale in a Brand NEW CHARACTER If they wanted Diversity? Create a BRAND NEW NEVER SEEN BEFORE Character then they could have been as Diverse as they wanted.

I love when people goes full sarcasm when talking about shitty movie.
I need to know who Awkwafina's talent agent is, because I have no idea how this woman keeps getting so many roles in very high profile movies when everyone finds her voice grating and she's pretty much typecasted to play the same unfunny character over and over again. This is the second Disney film she stars in, and I thought her voicing Sisu was enough, somehow, they made it worse here. Hearing that rap made me think it'd be perfect to torture criminals for in order to get information.
Her performance in "Jumanji The Next Level" was actually somewhat tolerable. Maybe if she gave more relatively restrained and controlled efforts like that, people wouldn't hate her as much.
That song was actually in the movie?!? Wtf wow
I honestly didn't know mermaids wear wigs , also mermaid is black but has a white dad where prince is white and has a black mom. Mermaids eyes look like the dad had sex with a hammerhead shark, but seriously the wig 😳
He got other daughters representing the seven seas, and since the setting for the original little mermaid movie makes more sense to have taken place in a warm climate (calypso music, palace architecture, trees, and sabastian’s accent), it makes total sense why triton might’ve got down with a black mermaid n created a black Ariel. Also, we don’t even see Eric’s parents in the original, so the story they give him in this movie is plausible. Also, Javier bardem is Spanish from the Canary Islands, off the coast of northeast Africa. Him n a black mermaid could absolutely have made a brown skinned Ariel
Being called a "Racist" for everything is getting old and total BS. If that is your crutch to deal with everything your a sad individual. I personally don't have any racist thoughts or feelings, but if I don;'t "agree" with something, does not make me one.

Serial infidelity befitting a sultan.
Now we need Coal Black and the seven Giants.
I can tell she's not the greatest actor just by the trailer. There is no emotion behind her eyes in any of the clips, except for the smiling scenes.
She acts reasonably well when she's interacting with Eric. But when she's alone, there's a lot of blank stares.
A pro actor will always think about the context of the shot, about what just happened to the character a moment ago and what they're seeing now, and based on that the actor will dream up some kind of mental process that's happening in the character's mind during the shot. And then, in front of camera they will act it out. They put something behind the eyes for us to see.

The original "princess and the frog" story is European lore too and there are a lot of animated and real life movies made with white actors...
When will they learn that it's ok if the cast is all white? Look at Black Panther, they were mostly black and we loved that movie.
When will they stop with the racial politics?
That movie is based of the life and story of an actual black woman. So that won't work.
@@annesleywilliams7087 nope. The princess and the frog is European folklore and has been for hundreds of years.

It made $550m vs a budget of at least $250m. Plenty of info out there that marketing for big budget movies adds at least another $100m. So this film needed to make at least $700m at box office to even break even, and it probably needed closer to $800-850m. So it was not made for the money.
