- Focus Points
Eyeline
Strengths: Great eyeline position for most of your stroke.
Adjustment Needed:
Just before breathing, your eyeline rises slightly, causing your upper body to drop and create resistance.
This is a minor adjustment since your overall horizontal position is excellent.
Hand Entry
What’s Working: Good hand entry overall.
Area to Improve:
Moving from entry to setup with a straight arm skips the catch phase, missing the chance to "catch" the water for propulsion.
A low elbow and dropped shoulder at this phase create resistance due to an open gap between your shoulder and head.
Solution: Focus on early vertical forearm (EVF) to lift the elbow and use your hand and forearm as a paddle. Ensure your elbow bends under your body for a stronger setup phase.
Stroke Path
Current State:
Your stroke path is wide, but good body rotation helps minimize its impact.
Shoulder and upper body movement around the stroke are noticeable.
Goal:
Adjust the stroke path to be under your body for better leverage and power.
Technique Tweaks:
Initiate the movement by lifting your elbow early and guiding your hand toward your belly button.
Keep your elbow bent at ~90 degrees when under your body to recruit larger muscle groups effectively.
Utilize your excellent rotation to maximize stroke power, especially in the drive phase.
Conclusion
Kelly, great work during this session! With some targeted drills to refine your arm position and stroke path, you'll unlock greater speed and efficiency. Excited to see your progress!
Thank you for watching!
