- Great set by Hawkwind at R-fest onkt 64mins set but a fine set it was. Set here is Cavern / levitation / the prophecy & Faldum (part) a rare outing for The Prophecy from 2012 originally played on the onward tour but was dropped from the set after a couple off gigs so never caught on video in listenable audio till now ! Your welcome 😜!
I remember Hawkwind in Bergen in 1973. It changed my music interest, and artists like Gong and Kingdom Come entered my record collection.
Thanks to Hawkwind for The Great Show in Bergen a long time ago ..
The Hawks Rule. Love them . They still evolve but keep the riffing alive . Best band of all time .
Dave was playing as well as I've seen him play. I was about ten feet to the right of this camera and watching every move. He was playing effortlessly (in the best sense of the word). Vocally he was right on the money except for a couple of times when they clearly couldn't hear themselves. Meanwhile, listen to Magnus's solo in Levitation. Ridiculous to say he "can't play". For that matter watch Dave's solo in Prophecy. Band were having some monitor problems during the show, but they were thundering along. Also it was their first gig of the year. Only complaint I had was the set was so short which wasn't the band's fault. Good vid.
To think that when I was 10 years old…I got into Hawkwind…….that was 50 years ago…..what a sonic journey I have enjoyed, as we all have…
Legend of a space tock band ..
But 90,s Hawkwind was their best time for me
Dave Brock celebrates his 81st birthday on August 20, 2022, ladies and gentlemen!
I know it's crazy he's even older than Charlie Harper
Nice to see you, to see you nice. You don't get anything for a pair. What a lovely audience! Give us a twirl!
I personally enjoyed them more when Nik turner was with them & with the odd appearance with Bob calvert but that was a long time ago. Space ritual still one of the best live albums.... by far. However, considering Dave is 80 odd, he aint doing bad.
Space Ritual and 801 Live are equally my favourite official live albums.
Looking forward to seeing the masters of space rock in Glasgow again in 2024 - best gig was in 1980 the Levitation tour saw them in Belfast - love this band they always push barriers musically and lyrically 👍
The bass guy is having a good time!! Much happier playing bass in a space rock band than driving a Lorry, stuck in traffic.
I thought it was Si from the Hairy Bikers
sounds like the corous of Garden Party......just my thoughts
That would be Doug MacKinnon.
Doug McKinnon would be the bassist!
The journey continues. Onward flies the bird !!!
JUst love the echoey synths . No one has ever bettered this band
I was at this great set happy to find a upload of it.
The audience receptor units are having a good time too!!
We where very receptive of Hawkwind they played a great set.
Thanks for posting,great Hawkwind
Glad you enjoyed it
As Long as Our captain is still at the helm !!!
I bet it carry's on with out Him.. Like Gong ?
Una grandísima banda.👍🤘👏
I just appreciate, the current comments, fellows .
I did enjoy my journey following the Hawkwind..and all the tribe
Wow. How lucky to witness.a 2012 song being played live. I suspect I wouldn't have seen them perform that one as if I did attend that tour, as was likely, I probably didn't attend either of the two gigs in question
Hawkwind often surprise. I'd love to know how they came about the decision to play a song from 2012 that many people would have probably forgotten about.
Thanks for sharing.
It’s on the forth coming album 😉
Just one of the best bands, the Peoples band as they were know.
I think Dave has found a great band to play with.
Not been the same since Alan Left...
Still going
That was me you were standing next to!
Haha 👌🏻👌🏻
if these guys have a scrap with metallica my moneys on the opposition... the guitarist would trip over his own flares
Dave's certainly kept his voice.
Magus is on fire
I agree, although he's not magic, he's Magnus!
The new keyboard player is good
ThighPaulSandra - played with Julian Cope & Spiritualized
Looks like Tom Araya on bass.
Hawkwind and the Stranglers on same bill , similar geometry
Excellent video, cheers! Did you get the rest of the set?
Yes
@@angelofdeath098 will you be sharing the rest? 😀
So who is the new bass player? and who is on keys please ( ohh dat rhymes!)
Doug Mackinnon on bass and Tim Lewis on keyboards
@@angelofdeath098 thank you
When will the S (Space) Fest be happening??
Hawkfest is September 9th/11th
Dave playing a les Paul ?
It's just too bad that we don't get to see all incarnations of Hawkwind with Dave at his most 'powerful'.... you know, an energy/sound mixture of his early daze drive and 90's prime Dave.
I have found the overall sound 'casually soft' for sometime now.
Dave's 'power' has more than waned and it really impacts the sound/drive/volume of the experience. I hope anyone who is new the band, understands this... he is after all: a weathered and wizened old Knight.
Dave has had a difficult time finding people who help give Hawkwind that 'punch', the punk, Thickness, power etc. Maybe it's simply because everything is digital and/or compressed now.
* wish these vids' sound were edited together with other captured versions to get a truer mix.
New Bass player looks like he's having a blast and helps to keep Richard's energy up. He brings some oldschool bass to the band. Nice to see him on mic as well.
Syth player knows what he's doing and understands the subtleties... sometimes it is odd hearing bare-bones ambience as atmosphere though.
Richard is solid... Hawkwind could utilize a second percussionist to fill out the percussive atmosphere.
Magnus has the guitar I desire. Gibson RD Artist.
Wish I was in the band to help fill out/support Dave's sound depth/volume/thickness/chunk etc., on guitar.
Thanks for all your posts, I look forward to more of these.
It's all part of the moving and changing dynamics of Hawkwind.
It would be boring if they stayed the same all the time.
This line up is heavy and melodic I think the mix works well.
I think Dave is in great shape for his age and still going strong, fair play to him.
I was there is sounded much better than this
@@87ggggyyyy it always does 😉
Couldn't disagree more, they sound fantastic
What happened to Niall Hone? He always seemed pretty miserable and not happy playing with the band.
He’s started his own band called lords of form
I miss nick!
Sounds like a great band for a lead guitarist to lay lots of riffs over.
Absolutely, pity they ain't got a lead guitarist rather than two rhythm guitarists lol.
I think I prefer the original way of playing, more authentic to say the least
Stick with the 70s albums mate I like the evolving sound hawkwind have always produced wouldn’t want them to still be playing same sound as 70s I’d lost interest long time ago if that was the case. 😉
Loved Hawkwind for 40 years plus but I'm not Feeling it now days..
There’s a complete lack of Huwge riffs here, it’s a monotonous chug.
I can hear Huw fine
Arnt the bass player and drummer supposed to play together ? Kinda hard to watch after listening to ginger play it.
Where's Dave Brock ?
Really ? 🤣🤣in front of you stage right with cap on doin lead vocals 🤣🤣
@@angelofdeath098 oh ok 😆 I was drinking last night 😆😂 🍺🍺
Maybe he is Invisible...lol.
He is definitely there because I can see him...hes the old man on the right of the stage.👍
wish hawfans should stop barking on … that this period was best.. they are the greatest rock band all time because they are progressive… who wants the same album repeated time and again. This incarnation are incredible live
LOL, when can I catch your next show at a Comedy Club?
I wonder if they ever kicked themselves in the shins, for throwing Lemmy out of the band?
You ever had to deal with a tweaker? I love Lemmy but meth makes people insufferable and I don't suppose he was an exception.
Band members come and go.
Nah, Lemmy's time was up
That was a while ago now LOL
I dont think theres ever been much room for anything more than TCDave Brocks ego!
Strange setlist for a punk festival.
Its not rebellion it's an offshoot called Rfest.
Rebellion has always been a mix and the Thursday didn't have any punk bands on.
Oldwind time to hang up your guitars boys
Levitation is great version. considering.
Saw them at the Palladium last year and it was a cracking performance, as strong as they've ever been in last 25 years .... Doug and Thigh are great additions to the band ....
Ozric Tentacles 🤔
rude....very rude
hawkwind by numbers. so safe. really struggling with magnus, cant play cant sing, not a good fit at all
Agree hes not the best singer…. But great writer
I hate to be negative but what you say is true - Dave is not really playing guitar anymore, so the energy is gone. Still, he is not young anymore :) And Magnus -- not my cup of tea.
@@Lost_Johnny Dave isn’t playing guitar any more??? Have you watched the vids I post ? Daves playing guitar more now and miles better than he ever has
I was there Dave was playing guitar. Maybe a bit Hawkwind by numbers but I think they should've play Silver Machine or Urban Guerilla for the ' punk' crowd.
Still, first band I saw when I arrived at Rebellion Festival great way to kick it off
@@angelofdeath098 I will have to look at a few more videos. ;)
