Truth! Obscure the video and stop frequently. You can break it up into scenes, someone can give you sets of songs to group together (some songs are really short). UA-cam will be there 😊
While it's definitely better to watch the musical, Hamilton's sound track is phenomenal just by itself. I've been only listening to the sound track for years without watching a single clip, and only saw it live about a month ago.
@@mccallmorganfunny you say that, cause I saw the musical first and then began listening to the soundtrack and I prefer the show. The intonations of the various songs are a little different and the props are used to add subs effects as well that I have grown to expect when listening. Like in the room where it happens where they clink their glass or (I think it’s my shot) where they slam their mugs on the table. Small stuff but I enjoy it.
One word...RENEE! Tony Award winner Renee Elise Goldsberry. Lin gave her this the night before she auditioned to see if she could handle it. He has often said this is the hardest song in entire score. Clearly, she kills it.
The best part of that story is he gave it to her the night before, she learned it overnight, and came back and performed it *without missing a word* and Lin was like, "Okay, so we got Angelica, who's next?"
@@SianiLane She did a BET Cypher based on Hamilton with Lin-Manuel and Daveed Diggs. She killed that one too: ua-cam.com/video/8Fgxmi7kCcU/v-deo.htmlsi=wb575WsxND-YOjw7
a lot of comments saying it NEEDS to be seen rather than heard which while i agree watching it IS better i think hamilton is one of the few musicals that the story can fully be understood from the soundtrack alone considering the entire show is non stop (hehe) music…besides like a single scene and the final moment…but everything else is pretty much in the lyrics!
also considering this is a music reaction channel where they are paying attention to production mainly i think soundtrack is better than being distracted by visuals!
coming back to you to agree even more this time after watching more of the video. it doesn’t even seem they’re paying much attention to the story but literally the music. her singing, and the orchestra, and their flow but not what’s actually going on. yeah… the visuals would be distracting.
There's a reason fans call this song "How to win a Tony in 4 minutes." Hamilton is amazing from so many standpoints - musically, lyrically, building and blending of motifs, etc.
This song 100% needs to be heard/seen DIRECTLY after "Helpless" .... a few songs in Ham are "partnered" with other songs. This is one of those, in that it only makes (MUCH) more sense and appreciated as back-to-back songs as the story folds in on itself and pulls back multiple layers at once. And you have my vote: WATCH THE WHOLE SHOW. ONLY reason I have Disney+ is to watch Ham a couple times a week - and I do! I'm Deaf, AND a musician (and translating it into ASL): the visuals, the movements, facial expressions, costumes and stage set-up are all JUST as important as the audio!
This song is an excellent example of why you should WATCH Hamilton. The rewind is so much more impactful with the staging and choreography. Watch it and i guarantee you forever enhance listening to the soundtrack
Reason #1 (just from your reaction) to watch the entire play on Disney+: This section of the song makes so much more sense when you see the play and witness the flashback.
Renee is just perfect for Satisfied. The pain you can feel in the second toast whoooo. While she was happily married by the time Eliza met Alexander, it’s a great take on what some biographers think based on banter between Angelica and Eliza. My favorite song in the show. If you react to nothing else, Wait For It is probably my second favorite song in the show. Leslie Odom Jr. absolutely kills it. The chorus vocals are so cool with how they sound like they climb with the note stacking. And Congratulations, the Mixtape companion to Burn from Angelica’s perspective (part of it was reused in the Reynold’s Pamphlet after the test audiences wanted to see Eliza’s reaction). Dessa gives me chills with how resignedly *angry* she is.
It’s definitely worth the full watch through! As a history buff myself, it’s really fun to find where Lin took creative license and alters history. I had my history students one year do a true and false assignment with Hamilton: musical vs reality. It was really cool.
HAMILTON!!! the best musical. def recommend listening to the entire album and checking out the mixtape “congratulations” and “first burn” AND all you wanna do my samantha polly in SIX the musical
Definitely needs to be seen and not just heard. Highly recommend the Disney+ version. Pro tip: Captions are your friend. Hope y'all end up doing this! 🤞
Renee Elise Goldsberry who played Angelica Schuyler won a Tony for this role - Best Featured Actress in a Musical. The same year Cynthia Erivo won the Tony as Best Actress in a Musical.
According to Wikipedia: "The film is edited together from three performances of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in Midtown Manhattan in June 2016 with the original principal Broadway cast members, prior to the departure of Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, and Ariana DeBose from the production, combined with a few "setup shots" recorded without an audience present" "On February 3, 2020, it was announced that Walt Disney Studios had acquired the worldwide distribution rights for the film for $75 million" It is available on Disney+
Please do the whole film but just a few songs at a time so you can savor it instead of trying to react to the whole thing in one go. If you want some help about how to break it up into manageable pieces I can send you a list of recommended segments.
I've been watching some of your videos now, but THIS, THIS is what made me subscribe. My secret talent is I can actually rap and sing (not well, I don't sing well but I can rap lowkey) ALL of Hamilton, word for word, bar for bar. I know it from memory. Y'all could also react to the recording that's on Disney+. It's so good, it's with the original cast as well. Man, I need you to watch and react to it because Leslie Odom Jr. is INCREDIBLE.
I can neither sing nor rap, but my child and I spent probably 2 years listening to and singing this entire cast album in the car to and from school. We can do the whole thing. 9 months into this never ending singalong, I surprised them with Hamilton tickets for Christmas. Which I said I didn’t succeed in getting because of the crazy lottery, which definitely was a real thing. I made a poster board with show photos and everything as a representation of our upcoming show. It’s fun to have a musical theater child. 🙂
I've loved many-a-musical from its soundtrack alone! I personally love "It's Quiet Uptown." So many outstanding songs in Hamilton. I hope we get to see some on UA-cam! :)
One of my favorite video concepts i always look up is people reacting to the Hamilton soundtrack. It's SO complex and diverse in genres, it's just spectacular.
I love watching reactions to Hamilton, but I feel like to react to Satisfied you need to watch Helpless and the watch Satisfied. The song per se is amazing, but the coreography?? How they literally rewind every move and they do it again in this new context, that's magical.
I hope you do, do the whole show but I would suggest using the Disney+ version as there is a lot you will miss without the live production from the stage.
It'll be fascinating to see how you guys go listening to it, especially the contrast of Helpless which is before it and then to this. It is a musical where you do need to listen to all the songs as it has so many callbacks to previous songs, whether in melody or lyrics. If I had to pick one other song to listen to from it, I'd say Wait For It.
if you ever decide to react to movie musicals Chicago should be at the top of your list since it's one of the best movie adaptations of a musical ever made, in terms of the filmmaking. Hairspray, Sweeney Todd, brent, tick tick boom, are all watchable.
I might be the 50th person to suggest this but...the Hamilton Mix Tape and the Hamildrops are 🔥🔥 It would be cool to see you guys react especially to the Hamildrop -> Helpless cover by The Regrettes 👩🎤
I feel like to truly appreciate this song. You would have to review it together with helpless because that is truly the best a side b side combo narratively
I loved Hamilton but I'm not American and didn't pick up on any of the themes you picked up on. I just liked the beat but you noticed the piano thing immediately and I would love to see what you think of the whole thing ❤❤
It’s funny that you say there aren’t any lyrics in the biography, because there are songs where lines are lifted almost verbatim from letters! The example I can think of off the top of my head is The World Was Wide Enough, where the main line of that song is lifted from one of Aaron Burr’s last letters!
It is *required* to do Satisfied together with ‘A Winter’s Ball’ and ‘Helpless’. Listening to / Watching ‘Satisfied’ before or without the preceding song(s) should not be allowed!
lots of people saying you don’t NEED to watch it to appreciate it and how since this is a music reaction channel it’s probably better to not react to the full filmed version - while this is all true, I also think that for people who are not very familiar with musicals and their structure and nuances there is a major benefit to having the visual aspect. I’ve watched so many Hamilton reactions from recording artists and musicians who don’t have any experience viewing musicals and so often there’s an incredible amount of confusion regarding who’s speaking. plus, with something as complex as a historical rap that has SO many words and stage directions that are meant to work in tandem with each other to carry the story, watching it really increases the understanding. I was an experienced musical theatre person already when I listened to the album for the first time and I was STILL confused until I saw the show live. The storyline has many moving pieces and I think that while this is primarily a music reaction channel, this show needs to be seen to be fully grasped and understood by people who are typically unfamiliar with musical theatre, especially since this is such a unique show.
You DEFINITELY need to do the whole discography, AND THEN! You need to hop on EPIC: The Musical written by Jorge Rivera-Herrans, also a puertorrican. If I had a nickle for every time a puertorrican made a genius musical and starred himself as the main character I'd have two nickles which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice.
if you like history, musicals, and comedy I suggest the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. I saw that in high school and I still listen to the cast recording all the time. ❤
Guyssss, pls react to Cynthia Erivo singing “Stand Up” from Harriet movie and “I’m Here” from the musical The Color Purple, it’s amazing and out of this world!!

Hamilton is insanely good. Musical full of no skips. Iconic
i genuinely believe this album has something for everyone. the story, the vocals, the different types of music. def listen to more maybe in order lol
Not to mention all the history lessons embedded in it which is just what a guy who says he's "an aspiring history buff" will also like!
