You’re 100% correct, they needed jobs for all the guys coming back from war and their boomer kids, plus the GI bill was essentially socialism subsidizing college and homes in the 1950s which needed to be furnished and being a repair man was a honorable career. When they realized the potential for plastics and outsourcing and the advent of corporations it was all about shareholders and profits not about keeping Americans gainfully employed. That gel actually works really good and it contains no alcohol. My mom was a stylist and always used that on her older ladies that came in for their weekly shampoo and style. She’d have all these older ladies under the dryer with their rollers on and gossiping. I was only 13-14 at the time but I really enjoyed sitting there and talking to these women.
