Ford focus brake pads and disc change and a helicoil thread repair to slider bolt retaining hole

- This video shows how to change the front brake pads and disk on a ford focus 1.8 2000 model. The caliper slider bolt retaining pin threads were also very badly damaged and had to be repaired with a helicoil insert. For information the bolt threads are M9 X 1.25 pitch. The helicoil insert size M9 1.5D stainless steel was inserted.A 9.3 mm drill is required to create the hole and a tap of the same size to create the threads for the helicoil to screw into. You will see it is not a difficult task when you watch the video. Happy car repairs.
Used a high powered drill and the caliper cube and w-d 40 behind the boot to get the piston in.PUSHED LIKE HELL WILE DRILLING and it finally went in.
The info is at the bottom of my comments:

excellent video thanks fir posting
thanks for this video. also, you have a nice dialect.
What you didn't show was old worn down pads and then need in to prize back or with a caliper tool wind back the piston to fit the new pads.
Thanks for the help brilliant video
Great video.
Advance Auto sells an "oversized brake caliper bolt" for $17.99 that you simple screw into the stripped out hole.
I hate Fords.
Something so simple they make so complicated.
Should the sliding bolts push right through the calliper?
Is it problem that you did the tapping from the front, as opposed to the back side of the steering knuckle? (Since the slide pins bolt on to the back)
Excellent video, great advice.
I am attempting to change pads on a 2004 fiesta. Will a torx-45 bit also release caliper. Cheers for any responses.
Good job is it 7 mm allen key on mk1 2002 focus zetec ???
Do these stripped brake components usually result from not using a torque wrench when tightening the bolts/pins?
This particular one was due to corrosion on the threads.
I always use a drop of thread lock on the outside of the helicoil before winding the insert in :) good video though
I ran into this problem on my Focus and was about to do the helicoil replacement until I found out that Dorman makes a special caliper bolt for just this situation. It uses a slightly oversized, self tapping thread. Worked great!
Good video just ordered Helicoil m9 repair kit 10.99 on ebay
Thanks mate, very helpful 👍🏻
Where In Scotland you from? 🏴 Glasgow here 🏴
good but you should really clean disk before use as i noticed the ointment will contaminate the pads
I am not quite sure what you are asking. The sliding bolt goes through the rubber sliders on the caliper and bolt onto the hub. Hope this helps
I cannot say with total certainty that it is a 7mm allen key but I have done a few of these cars and have found them to all 7mm.
Just looked at another focus mk1 2001 and it had a torx head T45 so not all allen keys.
After years of pad changes my focus has done the same thing on one of the holes, thread completely stripped. For the record, and I'm not sure how much it really matters since I know a 7mm hex works but the pin is technically a T45 torx - if anyone is particularly anal about these things.
I might just helicoil all of the holes since it's likely the rest are about ready to give up as well.
Thanks for the vid, it was a great help.
One of mine stripped (lower NS).
Best practice is to use cutting compound though for any metal cutting.
I personally found it easier to pull the coil in rather than push it.
Thanks again.
Brilliant video, china, thanks!
I first used helicoils45 years ago ( on stainless steel anti-depth-charge snubbers on submarines! so I didn't need the info, on that. I had Googled " brake caliper helicoil focus" just to get the threat size and up popped your great little video-- but you never mentioned the size! I was fuming until I clicked "more" and saw it in the text. Here's hoping for a cheap one on ebay! Great clear pics and explanation.

Thank you for this, just saved me a bunch of money when my slider pin did the same thing. Odd note it seems more often than not to be the top slider that strips......
Hi. I have this problem currently. Are you a me chanic and local? I could do with this being seen to. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the video, it helped me out alot today whilst doing this. Just to add I used the baercoil kit which contains the tap, helicoil with insert tool and drill bit. I got mine from experthardware.
Thank you for posting this video. I seriously did not know what size bolt threads I had.
Quality job done! Many thanks for repairing my car and knocking hundreds off a garage repair bill
this repair shouldn't of happened used calliper brake if not new should of been found
This is exacly the issue with my ford Ghia 2004. Thanks very much
Yeah i think mine is t45 and has a caliper mount which has 2 15mm bolts
Hey bunnybr - Great Video - exactly what I needed!
Thanks for Sharing!
What??? As an experienced mechanic too, I watched you file rust off and it fell directly on your rotor that was lying under it, then you put the rotor back on and didn't use any brake parts cleaner on your parts before reassembling them. What's up with that?
Thank you Bunnybr, got the kit from Amazon.
how missing and Amazon for the kit
What size is the helicoil kit you used?
Great video. Where can I buy the kit. I've got exactly the same problem with my Skoda Octavia.
I got my kit from ebay. The kits are a tad expensive but if you know the thread details you can buy the drill, tap and inserts separately on ebay.
that is a rusty car full of rust
Where are you from, California?
