I always felt like Mod Mat K was always the most sincere and straightforward of the Jmods.
I can see why the industry is interested in this guy. He takes time to design good solutions. He is strong willed but maintains empathy and doesn’t get lost in his own arrogance. I’d want this guy on my team.

Met Mat and Shauny at the Deadman tournament Jagex hosted in the US and they're just such wholesome guys to talk to. Not even halfway into the interview and it is already phenomenal. This is probably one of the most important RS related videos ever released on youtube. Incredible job.
It is impossible to put into words how much of a positive impact the team at Jagex and Runescape as a game has benefited my life and the many other players around the world. Massive thanks for all the brilliant times and nostalgia to this day!

Amazing interview! Very thankful we had Mod Mat K throughout all these years to help direct the game in the right way. The fact that they let someone so valuable to the team just leave though makes me scared for the future of osrs.
you can right click your volume option, go to volume mixer, and mute facebook separately and wont affect volume on anything else. FYI

Man I've played runescape most of my life now and honestly never really peaked behind the curtain and its surprisingly full of genuine people. Very glad I still play.

Mod Matt K is definitely the best person to work at Jagex.
God what a legendary stream.
The old death mechanics have permanently made an impact on me. Even now being able to get my stuff back im scared as heck of dying hahaha. Same for when someone dies near me now... often the instincts ingrained in me from the old days kick in for a moment my heart races, blood pressure spikes and ready to spam click under the player for their loot.

I think a big benefit from going HD for old school is that it would make the game more appealing to newerplayers. alot of people who never played the old runescape are turned off by the graphics.
OSRS would be so different if Mod Reach didn't get sacked. Crazy to think about.
How would OSRS be different if Reach was still around?

Got the game where it is... sadly, walked of the path, but still, thank you Mat K. MOD Mat K, since 2005. We still have osrs, no major harm done, thank you for having osrs. We will remember the good things.

I think the intention behind dropping the untradeables on hijacked accounts is to encourage the player to quit rather than continue and report the problem. It's a demoralizing thing to lose both and it probably would result in more of the players just straight up quitting rather than being motivated to contact support and report the issue. I'm sure it wasn't done without some forethought on how it could benefit them.
I think Mat brings up a good point about eoc being a good thing. Also, in my opinion, by the time eoc was being talked about, rs2 was at a tipping point with power creep that couldn't have lasted much longer without an overhaul of the combat system. With things like chaotic weapons and ganodermic armor they had sort of painted themselves into a corner.
Eh, they could have just nerfed things like ganodermic, storm of arma and chaotics, though personally I never felt like chaotics were a big problem. I could still beat a rapier with a whip at the end of the day.

Top players in game before eoc even came out had insight of it coming out before it was even announced and said it was going to ruin the game. All the 138s back then including me knew something was going to happen. its crazy looking back
Yeah Zeah being too big was my biggest issue from like the first minute I spent on it, it looks good on the map, but when you're running through its just so out of proportion, Good conversation though! Mat K seems like a good guy ... Also I think stealing creation should be added!!
What does Mat K do nowadays? Also, at 2:48:20 he says 'I earn a lot more than I did back then' which to me supports community rumours that people at Jagex are not paid well or even fairly.
Divine Project manager at a company that sells cloud services for MMO. No doubt he’s making more. You can look at the reported salaries on Glassdoor, they are very much on the low end.
He said on one of his own streams in the summer that he got a pay increase at about 60 %
@@ele7z Damn. MMK wasn't making even 60k at Jagex? I would've thought he'd be paid six figures being as vital to the game as he was. Mod Ash should be paid doctor money as well. I know money is a sensitive topic, but it makes you realize the veterans at Jagex really love the company and the game. Damn. We are blessed.
Honestly, it really scares me the way Matt talks about the future of OSRS.. I personally love the game so much and would love to see it peak again and personally I’m in the belief that it can peak multiple ways via graphical updates like in 08 and new skills (I know he talked about that in stream) but I would have personally loved to see a new skill in the game. Especially warding, dungeoneering, a watered down version of summoning without the combat level increase or ability to store extra INV slots just make it to where you have a fight companion not an extra bank standing behind you. A new skill called Bounty where it’s just like slayer except for bosses geared for high pvmers but also scales to your combat just like Slayer does already. I have tons of ideas for PvP as well and even bounty hunter and too many content ideas that span over the entirety of the game and would personally love to pitch some of them for free to anyone at jagex. The game means so much to me and it’s been by my side every year since 05. My passion for runescape will always be aflame, I would love to pitch ideas or be on a developing team for jagex

That toolbelt thing really surprised me. Shift+click to me seems like a much smaller thing than having all the tools available at all times without a chance to lose them. Proper preparation and the value of everyday items like Tinderbox for me feel much more essential to the Old School RS experience than having to click slightly less when dropping items that doesn't in my experience happen that much anyway. From Mod Mat K's explanation I can kind of see his side but I still disagree with it. Very fascinating anyway to see how big a difference such a small part is for different people's game experience.

WHY HAS JED NOT BEEN PROSECUTED? If his name has been changed and his bank accounts are frozen, is it the case that the police cannot find him to arrest him? Or are they able to freeze his bank accounts indefinitely without being charged?

The issue with Warding was the skill was garbage. We needed the item sink, but we didn’t need random low level armour that no one would Ever wear… we need something like Invention, except Less OP

Interested to hear his opinion on Summoning & Dungeoneering not being shifted into osrs. They seemed to be hugely successful in rs2

Shift click did take away a lot of pain sadly it did make it easier, it seems like ironman is the only way to feel any sort of pain anymore. I just got back into playing and im really not feeling it to be hard
But in that sense it gets more players to start new accounts. I think ironman mode (and also HCIM) is the best update Jagex put into OSRS. Really great. I have a bigger gripe with the death mechanics.

45:45 We also only got Ultimate abilities on revolution at the end of 2017, I think. FUCKING 7 YEARS LATER. That was such a bad move by Jagex. They not only dropped a new combat system into the game, but essentially turned combat from chilled, to button mashing all these abilities. And if you didn't mash, you wouldn't do thresholds/ultimate, and maybe even basics early on too? I don't remember back that far because EoC didn't make me hate the game... but it turned me away from the game. I just could not play it. And that sucks. EoC is incredible now though. But some terrible people were at the helm, making these decisions.
I dont have a problem with a new skill... I just dont want it to be a fucking buyable allowing for the stakers to dominate the highscores thats all...

We need this man back at Jagex! Runescape makes alot of money yet theyre so stingy. Thats why we have so many bots...bots buy membership or bonds for membership creating revenue. It seems to me that OSRS went downhill when the Chinese mining company took over, which seems theyre is a massive increase in chinese gold farmers. I wonder if the Chinese mining company is mining OSRS and selling it first hand on P2P game currencys websites?

Definitely agree that the game went notably downhill the moment the Chinese mining holdings company bought it out.

I got a big problem with a higher up within a company saying that it doesn't matter if people hack/bot/bug abuse aslong they put the money towards good use.

I think Mod Mat K is wrong about Cursed You being a bug abuser. I thought he was just a big staker? I think you're confusing the Fally Massacre bug with him being a bug abuser.
He was indeed a very succesfull staker. Keeping he's defense lvl low to ensure he could fight unknowing players with maximum damage. He's staking payed a portion of the 99 construction. Never ever ever heard of him being a bug abuser. All the guy did was kick people from he's house party and then they went with it. It was never a planned bug abuse or anything...

He said they kept tabs on him for months to bust him, he definitely was not confused. Seems like he was up to things that others obviously weren't aware of.

Yeah, I felt bad for the devs and artists who had their work rejected. That has to hurt. A lot. I feel like Warding was not the right skill, though. I don't know what the right skill is, but clearly summoning is never coming (because pets exist). Maybe archaeology? Maybe dungeoneering... I'm really not sure. Artisan?

There are so many time where they share an interesting story and you follow up with, "well okay is there anything else about that?"...like bro, don't close the conversation just as it's getting started. Honestly have to disagree with you mat on the point about HD. Myself as well as hundreds to thousands of people do play old school for the nostalgia as well as graphics being a huge part of that. If they released hd and it wasnt toggleable as he stated i genuinely wouldnt want to play anymore

@@budthewhite9723 he did not tick eat. woox literally said he did not tick eat. what he did was use a npc in rimmington to store his food and eat. he did not abuse any bugs- it was just an oversight by jagex. eating is not against the rules, so this oversight is on jagex, not on him for seeing it. and i never understand why people like mat k look down on woox. woox (and a large portion of the community) felt that he won legitimately and therefore had a legitimate expectation to be paid 10k. Meanwhile, ash has every right to spend his money however he sees fit, as long as it is not illegal. If ash thinks it is fine for woox to take his 10k, why should people be upset on his behalf?
If mtx went into the game everyone would leave aswell let's not kid ourself... peoples play osrs because its the only good non p2win game out there atm.

I think he understands that while RWT is against the rules and Jagex is under an obligation to ban RWTers, the situation is a bit more nuanced than just black and white and real human people are actually depending on RWT for their survival.

The Rumor about Silentc0re botting in the office is likely true. My friend found out he was botting a long time ago.
He shared a screenshot of his 99 party on a bot forum, and it matched the 99 party in a video he uploaded. Hearing he botted in the office of Jagex isn't that surprising

Disagree with Mat on Woox. Thats the only thing. He won that damn thing through his knowledge of the game and was properly rewarded for it. Dont be mad at a player for playing the game and then being rewarded for it! Woox is a runescape legend.
