Thanks, I just got into surfskating and my first couple rides were like "oh, this is fun!" but then found out as much as I was having fun, I was developing bad habits by doing the "fish squiggle" like if I was riding a Ripstik. I don't come from a surfing background so this is something completely new to me, seems like it will be a fun form of exercise. Riding this way felt a lot more graceful, this video was certainly helpful.
Shane, there are several other ways to Surfskate pump that I also use that I haven't really seen anyone else using. Lateral rotational pumping and swing pumping, are a couple ways I've developed. Both very fun, useful, and adds additonal possibilities to your style quiver. For lateral rotational pumping, imagine the trucks do not lean or turn and you only have the swing pivot such as on a Meraki, smoothstar, or similar. Squat down a little, lock your stance and simply rotate your lower body clockwise and counterclockwise, back and forth without allowing the board to lean. This is an extremely efficient way to pump as no energy is wasted in leaning the board and accelerates very quickly once you build up strength to be able to pump this way with good power. Swing pumping is super fun and adds a lot of style to your riding. To do this you simply swing your lower body/legs forward like a pendulum, forward into the carve as your pumping so the board and your legs are going infront of your upper body. Kinda hard to explain, but your throwing your legs and board infront of you, as you pump and carve. I'm going to upload some demonstration videos soon
Hi Shane, love your videos. I just noticed on this one in particular, that it looks like there is a black "nose guard" on your deck. Is it so? Where did you get it. Thk Mike
Just setup a surfskates. A while new world from my normal adventures. This video hella me think about the approach better. Just need to go out to work in now.
I learned it all alone, think it's a logical process. You first move the arms like a fool and when you gain balance, you automaticaly start to squat that makes improve your flow and power.
Thx for the tutorial! But I’m kinda curious whether your driving force is from your back foot or front? Cuz I has always been told driving my whole body with the front! Thx for the vids
Hi Shane, just got a Carver C7 mini simms and starting to learn pumping. For less effortless pumping, should the spring bolt be adjusted loose to the extent that the arm hits both stops without effort or there should be some tension? How should I adjust the rear trucks, any tips/guidance based on individual weight as I know it can be subjective for the best set up. I weigh around 115 lbs so pretty light weight. Tks Bro
As a general guidance: the tighter the spring, the more forward push you get in 1 pump The looser the spring, the easier the turn, but less forward push, so you will rely more on the back foot to generate speed Back truck should be roughly same tightness as front or a little tighter Experiment and find what you like best 😊
thanks Shane... hey where did you get your boards nose guard (please)? I have the same board, I have personalised it, by stripping it down and vanishing the underside but would like a nose guard.
Can u use that pump on waterborne adapters ? I switched from carver CX to waterborne front and back.. its been raining so havent been able to try. Do you believe u can pump for more speed than the CX ? I liked the CX as well. Took alittle more time to speed up, but i felt i got some speed on them . What's your thoughts? 😎
I just started surfskate a week ago. I totally feel that I am front foot heavy. It's killing my left thigh. Thing is, the park where I practice is at a slight incline, so I have to pump harder to move. Do you think that this is a bad place to practice? If I don't do big lateral movements, I don't move.
Aloha Mate but your Technique is completly wrong 🤣, where talk about surfing and surfskating and not Tai Chi 😄. Up and down is not working on a Surfboard, better to use Rail to Rail and unweighting the Board for Speed

Glad it helps ! The wiggle is not wrong per se. But it's good to know different ways to get the board moving
That mans quads are terrifying 😆 thanks for the sick tutorial. Helped a ton!
From Thailand, this video is very helpful.
After stop using lateral force and switch to surfing one, my feet never hurt again.
This is the best channel on surfskating I've come across! Thanks dude.
You are a REALLY good teacher !!
Simple, clear, helpful
Great tutorial! It is by far the most educational I have found. I'm 48 and trying to learn on my own, so your tutorials are very useful,
Awesome tutorial! Have seen lots of surfskate pumping videos, but this one replaces them all! Best explanation ever.
Congrats!
Keep on going 🤙
Your tutorials really stand out. I have looked at so many others and yours are short, clear, well explained, applicable. Thank you !
Good job. Now I have to go out and do it the right way.
Best explanation for compression I've seen. Cheers
Helpful. Definitely. You, man, are the one who bullseye the problem.
Cheers!
Great tutorial with easy drills to good surfing posture.

Do you also pump the “right turn”?
Just setup a surfskates. A while new world from my normal adventures. This video hella me think about the approach better. Just need to go out to work in now.

It was helpful indeed!
thank you for this video. i've been pumping backwards 😂
Thx for the tutorial! But I’m kinda curious whether your driving force is from your back foot or front? Cuz I has always been told driving my whole body with the front! Thx for the vids
Frontside pump:
Compress going into heelside front foot
Decompress going into toeside back foot
@@shanelai2515 thaaaanks maaan!btw ur Aussie accent makes me feel nostalgic ahaha
Hey Shane. Thanks heaps for the vids. If I can generate speed going up a slight hill, does that mean I'm doing it right, or not necessarily?
Not necessarily
so helpfullllll thank you
Thank for this video❤️
Very helpful

Are there any ways to do airs on a surfskate? I have looked all over UA-cam and can’t find any tutorials only videos
The technique to airs are pretty similar to regular skateboarding i reckon.
@@shanelai2515 so you recon Ollie’s
grazie! very helpful!
Hey Shane! Could you please tell me where did you get that front bumper? I would really like to put the same one on my toledo #77 :)
It came together with the sixty six surfskate 😊
Hi, just wondering if you have ever change the wheel bearing.for surfskate? If yes, which brand do you use.
Yeah i do. Bones redz
thanks Shane... hey where did you get your boards nose guard (please)? I have the same board, I have personalised it, by stripping it down and vanishing the underside but would like a nose guard.
De rien ! They came together when i got my Sixty Six surfskate
how is this guy so charismatic XD
This is great, but I can't really replicate unless I can see a mirror/flipped version to match my natural footing.
What board do you use?
if this is pumping front-side, could make another video explaining back-side? Or the other way around... Thanks! Great video!
Thank you! Ok, added that to my list
Is that both feet or only rear foot when you pushing into the ground?
Back foot

Can you show how to pump from backside?
Salut, merci pour cette vidéo, cela va améliorer grandement ma technique de pump. Arnaud
De rien
the movement is like Tai Chi moving your weight from one foot to the other and swinging your arms with the movement.
Yeah it's amazing how on one level, everything is connected in how the body moves
Thank you . i live at reservoir too. usually what time you play at that park?
Depends. Usually late arvo
I want to wiggle i dont care about actual water surfing how do i do it
Cheers!
This is a great video for a beginner like me to know if im doing it right (pump) or wrong (wiggle).
