Sounds like you've hit the jackpot, Ash 🎰 Good that you're listening to your body and not getting taken in by marketing waffle and outside influences too! Ultimately, we all have different gaits, body types etc, and recieved wisdom doesn't always apply 🤷♂️ As a big runner at 6'3 and 14 stone, I was always told that I needed tons of cushion to alleviate the impact shock, yet I run everywhere in either KSO Evos or V-Trails...or barefoot, and I never seem to get injured after making the transition. I'm quite sure you'll smash the marathon in those shoes, and have a big smile on your chops while you're doing it! 💪
Thanks very much TJ, and if I’ve got a big smile on mi chops I’m a happy man 🤣🤣 yes absolutely regarding the hype around super cushioned running shoes - and I’m not totally knocking them as that’s where I started my running journey with Nike, Brooks and Hoka. But I got such bad plantar fasciitis in my Brooks setting a 10k pb I couldn’t walk on my right foot for days! Which is why I switched to Hoka thinking I needed more cushioning 🤪 It took me getting the original pair of these Sub2’s to get me from heel striking to a more mid/forefoot striking, which intern led me to barefoot style shoes. So I have a good experience with these Adidas 😁 Looks like you have it really sorted 👍 the KSO EVO are bare minimum! I love the feel of my V-Run and Vapor Gloves for the ground feel and sensation OF ACTUALLY RUNNING rather than plodding through some miles. Do you feel the same - feels like you’re connected to what you are doing - which is a nice feeling 👍
@skinnylegsbarefootshoes Ouch! Plantar fasciitis is flipping painful! I'm really glad you've left all that behind 😬 I think there's a pretty standard rule when it comes to muscles and tendons - if you use something, you strengthen it, and if you support something, you weaken it. That's why I like the KSO's so much - because they're so minimal, they really train your feet and your body mechanics better than anything else I've ever worn. Great thinking to go back to basics with those Adidas too! It's a shame they don't seem to make shoes like that anymore.
Hi There, What training plan are you using ? I WAS using the Hansons plan until a Hip Labrum Tear put a halt to my training, but always interested to see how experienced people train.
Hi Stephen, my name is Ash (Ashley) oh that’s a nightmare regarding the Hip Labrum Tear, is that you out of the Marathon? Can you defer to next year? How was the Hanson plan working out? I’m following the official London Marathon 12 week plan and adding in yoga and stretching. A brush with cancer a few years back has left me with a crap immune system and after 4 bouts of Covid last year and just getting over a cold I’m not as fit as I would like to be at this point - but I was able to cover 18 miles yesterday (eventually!) so at least that’s a good thing. Hope your recovery is going well and you are healing well 👍
Thank You for your reply Ash. Yep the Labrum Tear finished off my marathon, it was bloody painful that chi can tell you. I’ve been slowly building back the strength in my left leg. I live in Guernsey so that was the marathon I entered as I didn’t get into London. The Hanson plan is excellent, my longest run was 16 miles, I used the plan when l ran the Jersey marathon and found the run really enjoyable, I ran it with a steady pace and finished it in 3:36, it was my first marathon.
@@stephenbaggott2815 Wow that’s an excellent first marathon time at 3:36 ! Sorry you are out with the Labrum tear - sounds bloody painful too. Hope your recovery goes well and you are able to get back to running soon 👍
I still think you’d be better off with the Altras, unless you’re simply uncomfortable running with 20 mm+ padding. You would probably finish faster, and also fresher.
Hi David, you may be right with the 20 mm+ padding and feeling fresher. I do have a pair of Altra Torin 4 Crush which have 26 mm stack, but they are just a tiny bit short (lost a couple of toe nails and few years back running 50k in them 😬) I still take them out occasionally and feel anything over 10k they suck the energy out of my running stride now. I would like the extra toe space however I’ve got pretty skinny feet and had no issues over 18 miles in these Adidas so 🤞 all will be good. I also had to go up half a size as that was all I could find available on the second hand scene which I’m sure has given a touch extra wide in the toe area 👍
@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes That’s great to hear. I hear you about the Altras - I myself wouldn’t wear them, but many swear by the padding. Just out of curiosity, why not the Vapourgloves?
@@davidroseman3287 I do love the Vapor Gloves, and think I will use them for the 35 mile ultra I have booked in for May, as a lot of that is on fields of compact mud and grass which will be way more easy on my feet. I think 26 miles on asphalt, tarmac, concrete will be a bit to much for me right now. Maybe if I do another road marathon I’ll try the barefoot shoes, but for now the padding will be welcome. I also want to try and beat my previous London Marathon time 😁👍
I think you've found your shoe, maybe for both events!! I like them a lot, and your thinking about the entire situation is solid Ash!!!
Thanks Todd, appreciate your feedback. Did enjoy feeling more able to run in them today 👍 think they will be ‘The Ones’ 🏃👌
@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes As you roll mile 20, you will be very thankful for those beauties.

Looks like a very good option mate. You don't want to DNF due to wearing an uncomfortable shoe.
Cheers Mark, yes I think so too 👟👍

Sorry it was the London Marathon 16 weeks plan! Not 12 weeks, I’d just finished week 12 of the 16 week plan 😁 easy to get confused at my age 🤣

It doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks about your shoe choice. You need to feel happy and confident on the start line.
Thanks Phil, yes you’re right mate - and it was actually pretty nice to have a bit of cushioning and a snug fit for a change 👍
