  • Here are some string/thread options to explore if you're interested in trying this for yourself!
Thick clothes line (to loop once around and sew down with thinner, durable, thread): amzn.to/2Ha4YZE
This is the exact crochet thread that I used: amzn.to/2JV35Od
I used the needle from this stitch kit (I recommend this portable sewing kit to everybody!) amzn.to/2HbMXtX

I always use the drawstrings from my dead pointe shoes to create the foundation for the darning and use for the stitches themselves. Just undo any knots at the vamp and pull the drawstring out. If your shoes have elastic drawstrings ask your fellow dancers for their drawstrings when their shoes are dead and ,if your in a company, find the used pointe shoe bin and/or ask your colleagues for their drawstrings. Just a method I’ve used for years that someone might want to try out! Great video, well made.

Ughh thats genius and idk how I never heard of it….also I’m remembering my shoes have elastic casing not drawstrings 🤣

I'm an adult dancer who has been learning ballet for 12 years and only just started pointe this year! My dance mates chose to have leather tips put on their shoes but I wanted to darn mine and I found your video the most helpful and informative. Plus, the fact that you have a cat just about convinced me because I have a few of those too! I finally darned my shoes yesterday, I did exactly as you said and am very happy with the outcome so thank you very much!

You seem very genuine and know yourself well. I find a lot of your videos helpful. I may have taken up ballet very late in life but it’s still a fun journey. Thanks for what you do!

I just got my pointe shoes, and I've sewed the elastics and ribbons, but I had no idea how to darn easily until now. Thanks!!!!! Although, the loop part drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pliers help pull the needle through if your hands get raw and curved needles are easy to use too 😊

When did darning pointe shoes become a thing? I never did that, nor my classmates.

Wonderful tutorial! I love Alice so much!! And yeah, my cats also get sassy when I'm sewing my shoes :) I maybe try this later, I'm finding the platform of my current shoes weirdly small...I was wanting to ask you, could you do a video on tips for not getting exhausted after class? I'm always trying to do my class the best I can, but I'm usually drained of energy the next day for work. How can I be satisfied with my class, but still be able to do my life?

Hi Kristen, first I want to thank you for your channel. I listen to your ‘chat’ style videos all the time when I’m driving or getting ready and always find motivation in your words.
My darning question is this- you said to use a thin but durable needle for the thicker thread. Would you say to avoid those curved darning needles and just use a normal one? Are the curved ones damaging to your shoes?
    Thanks 😊

Thank you for this video Kirsten, I will definitely try this! Will darning only work with new shoes or is it possible to add this to shoes that are already broken in a little bit but still have a good amount of time left?

It’s okay to darn used pointe shoes! I do that and it works for me 💗

  • @marycrawley3828

I totally get the pointe of darning but why white??? It’s so prominent on a dark stage floor and sometimes really disturbing to the lines… I‘m sure the thread comes in a colour matching the satin… I‘m just really curious, because as a costume designer I always keep the lines in mind and then this doesn’t seem to bother anyone…

I have a question....can I darn a pair of pointe shoes that I used for a while or I have to do it before I brake in them? 😄💜💜

    • @TheConfidentDancer
      @TheConfidentDancer  6 років тому +2

Great question! You can definitely still try this on older shoes, it is just harder to secure the knots if the layers of fabric have already frayed or come off.

I still don't understand why you would do this. Like what do you differently if you're trying to stop sickling, or trying to get further over your box for example.
