Great video! I was so proud of myself when I cook chicken or turkey and used the bone to make stock lol did I know that I could make bone meal. That makes me feel good knowing nothing is waisted now. I will definitely do this. Thank you!
Thank Rhonda! Yes, being able to use the whole chicken (I have a video out on that too) is the best feeling ever. These fertilizers kept my summer garden healthy for pennies!
Wow I'm shocked at things I considered waste to have so much value. I wish I would have known about this before I started my garden this past fall. Thanks so much. I would give you 10 thumbs up if I could.
I was the same way! I had a thriving garden this year so I can tell you it works! I mean, nutrients are nutrients and fertilizers are expensive. I love not having to pay those prices and truly stretch our food budget. Happy growing!
Yes, it does! These fertilizers won’t take too much time or money to make and now they’ve folded into my daily habits and routines! So good to see you!
For the alfalfa tea and fish emulsion, how do you store them? In the garage in the dark? If I have a small number of plants, I'm probably not going to use that quickly
Hi Carlos! De nada! Es un placer! I’m happy you found this helpful! I’ve rotate between canning and kitchen garden videos and in two weeks I’ll be sharing garden tours, how to set up a vertical Green stalk and other small backyard growing hacks! I appreciate your encouragement 😁
You Are Great. Thank you so much for answering my "How long do I boil my chicken bones?" Question. 😄 cause I saw your other videos about not throwing away chicken bones I just forgot the next steps 😁🥰. Also putting my eggshells and banana peels into play as well 😏
I will definitely have to try getting alfalfa when I'm in tractor supply. Hmmmn making bone meal makes sense for those who compost to try to learn their food waste
You’ll enjoy this fertilizer so much. It’s significantly cheaper as an NPK fertilizer than commercialism brands for sure. And yes, making your own bone meal for folks like us who can and garden is another good value!
As for making bone meal it's faster in a pressure canner, place bone in jars with water, finger lid cook in the pressure canner for 90 min. Let cool. Take a fork and break it part. Then place it in the dehydrator until dry. Place in a grinder makes powder.
Thank you! The pressure cooker does something to make the texture of the bones good for dehydrating. I've tried just regular cooking and dehydrating. The bone seemed too hard to grind.
I won’t look at food scraps the same way again. Thank you for all the valuable info. you provide on your channel. I’ll be ordering the vertical planter with your code. Hope it benefits you too. Thanks again!
Hello Freedom Jam! Yes!!! Food “scraps” still have tons of use as fertilizers, all natural cleaners, stock and broth flavoring, food for a worm bin, as compost, and the list goes on! I’m truly happy to share and have enjoyed meeting other “farm girls”! I truly do thank you for keeping my code in mind when you go to order your Greenstalk, they truly are excellent for small space growers. Blessings to you in the new year, friend!
Hey, lady! Thanks so much! The mug is thrifted! The day I filmed was a freakishly cold day for late April (hence the tea in my mug and my plants inside in the background)!
Cassandra, I love your channel so much! So many great tips! Thanks so much for helping me to celebrate 500 now 600 subscribers! It was so good to see you in the live. The next time I’m on you should join me. No pressure. 😂 Take care, friend!
You are well on your way! You’re so friendly, funny and relatable! I need to make sure I’m getting the notifications for when you go live. I’m hoping to to that soon as well. These fertilizers will save you a ton and still give you incredible results!
😱 wow. I have a worm bin that I get compost tea from And I'm always looking for new things to add to my compost tea. You always give me a lot to think about. I love to experiment all the time in the garden. Thank you like always for some more inspiration. Blann out.
Hi Jimmy! I’m happy to pass along what I’m learning and doing and to meet others that are very much into composting and diy gardening. How long have you been worm farming?
@@BecomingaFarmGirl . I just started homesteading 3 years ago added the worm bin shortly after. Been learning from my mistakes but been fun. I really do learn a lot from your Channel. I'm glad that you are sharing. I'm about to add my 4th compost bin ( neighbors scraps ). Why I'm done texting your ear off. Blann out
I recently canned chicken and beef stock. I remembered this video. I did save my bones AGAIN. First from collecting up, and second after making my broth. I tossed them in a freezer bag and there they sit till I have enough to fill my dehydrator. I will be using in my 2023 garden.
That's how you do it Amy! No sense in letting anything go to waste! Bones have so many uses it would be a shame to just toss them. I bet your broth was delicious!
This is what I came to the comments for! Where do I get unchlorinated water? I have a Zero filter so I’m going to use that. Hopefully one day I’ll have land with a natural spring but the filter will have to do for now.
I believe the chlorine damages our plants. A container with chlorinated water uncovered for a day and the chlorine dissipates/evaporates. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I am going to have to find an alternate source for Phosphorus as I am a life long vegetarian so I am not going to deal with all that stuff you went through, otherwise your video is very informative and useful. Thank you so much.👌👌
@@BecomingaFarmGirl I can't wait to try! I'm always looking for ways to reuse as much as possible with intentions to cut back on buying more supplies and using what l have to help my garden flourish!
WOW, LOVE THIS. THANK YOU FOR THIS INFORMATION IT WILL REALLY HELP ME WITH MY ALLOTMENT. CAN YOU PUT ALL THESE TOGETHER TO MAKE AN ALL ROUND FERTILISER? IF SO WHAT RATIO WOULD YOU USE??
Hey Amy! So good to see you. I actually thrifted the mug while back. Even though it’s late April we had a frost a few nights (hence my sunflowers inside near the window). It’s always good to see you!
Thank you to this newbie who has yet planted her first herb or vegetable but will in a week or so. Question, can this be mixed together as a power fertilizer? Do you water regularly and then water with one or more these every other week? It’s so confusing. Thank you.
I have a question.. can I make a fish based plant food with canned pink salmon? I have plenty of canned pink salmon. And frozen battered cod. And frozen salmon
Can this make my potting soil more richer and a better foundation for the seeds? I just recently cut slice of tomato, then lay it flat on my my potting soil. Covered it a little bit of the same soil. Just did this today.
Hello Louise! Thanks so much! It’s truly just what many folks did before the invasion of commercial fertilizers. You’ll never look at your kitchen scraps the same! Thanks for watching!
I have been using banana peel soaked in water for a week then watering my plants with it. Last year it attracted a lot of Ants so I stop doing it that way. I will try the dehydrating way.
It’s totally the way to go when creating a sustainable and affordable gardening routine! I’ll have to take a closer look at Korean Farming practices, thanks for the recommendation, truly! 🌱🌱

Just bury the bones in your garden bed.
