  • Machines of Iron revisits Ukraine in the fall of 1996 when the countryside is resplendent in autumn colors and the air is filled with locomotive steam and smoke. A special steam excursion is the reason for our visit, and we travel aboard a comfortable passenger train behind several different Russian locomotives including a 0-10-0, doubleheaded 4-6-4s, and the most modern Russian steam locomotive, the P-36. Enjoy lots of color and culture, as we travel to this country rich in history. Our trip includes sightseeing trips to Kiev and Moscow

    Those are double-headed 2-6-2s, not 4-6-4s.

Great video! Its a real treat since Iam crazy about steam locomotives. I can even feel the smell around them in remenicsence. Thank you so much for sharing. If your channel is mostly about trains, I look forward to see future efforts. Take care.

I would think that in September 2014, things might be little different now!

Nice photography and video. Steam engines are very slow with compair to diesel engines. We can enjoy heritage run with steam engines but in today's fast life steam engines should run with fast speed. Ukraine is very nice country. Russian and Marathi languages are having many similar words e.g. Sakhar (sugar).Thanks.

Странно ,почему именно русские паровозы в Украине,если 1000-й послевоенный стоит в Луганске возле паровозостроительного завода?

The double-headed, green locos are S class 2-6-2's, not 4-6-4's.

Very nice video. Beautiful scenery of hills. Green steam engines with set of three drive wheels. But it is observed that speed is not more than 40kmph. 2nd black beauty engine was perfect. Is this steam engine still in use today? Please inform during vedio there departure and destination stations. Thanks.

They were built in the USSR. Somewhere in Russia (likely Moscow) and this was after the collapse of the iron curtain.
