  • A big part of why I like Hanfu (traditional chinese clothing) is because I want to connect to my heritage culture, but there's also a little more to it.
Today's video I will briefly go over why.

I love hanfu! They are way cuter than a Qipao since their very beautiful, magical and, flowing!

Nice vid Scarlett. If you visit China, you can rent very beautiful Hanfu, have make-up and hair done professionally. As an overseas Chinese myself, identify can be challenging/confusing but I choose to see connecting with my heritage as allowing me to draw from the best from both East and West traditions.

there are no western and eastern traditions. There are just clothes, and some of them overlap at the front. You can call it kimono or hang or whatever - it's a open dress/shirt with no buttons. Let's keep it real. The concept of hand was created as an answer to kimono (which itself was created as an affirmation of Japanese nationhood). Just like the concept of Han was created to put together under the State people with different languages, different traditions, different material and social conditions across a huge territory.

That’s awesome! If I ever go to China, I will definitely have to try that.

That’s awesome! I only learned about them a few years ago. From what I’ve heard, Hanfu in China started to become more popular in the past 5-10 years give or take.

hang is just the nationalist answer to 和服 i.e. kimono, which was in itself a Meiji-era affirmation. Nation-building through clothes. Except hanfu comes with a cosplay quality, with colours and materials that are very modern and chemical. Otherwise, it's basically a dress with overlapping on the front
