As a fellow South Indian, I think our pain of misrepresentation is absolutely nothing compared to the discrimination of NORTHEAST Indians.

I’m from Chhattisgarh, despite being part of Hindi belt we have zero representation in Bollywood. When I saw Malayalam movie “Unda” I cried my heart out. It was for the first time I saw my state and people being represented so beautifully. They even casted one of the local actor to play an important side character. Music of that film was culturally rooted. And most importantly the movie successfully depicts the struggle of tribals in hands of armed forces and militants.

Also, Chennai express was based around the Tamils, not the entire South India. Cultural shock is to be expected if you're non-tamil south indian.

I don’t mind the stereotype of Bengalis being smart or loving Tagore or even food but just because you have migrant workers from some place calling that place poor and the people who clean our places and do manual labour are from Bengal hurts more :)

People from other states cannot fight against the discrimination faced by you. It is *you* who has to step up and take the required action. Start a grassroot organisation and create public awareness. It's much easier in this era of social media. You can create a video talking about your problems, for example.
Instead of doing something for your people you are whining and complaining under this video where a South Indian is addressing the issue affecting people of the south states...

Legends such as Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Salil Chowdhury, etc etc Stereotyping Bengalis in Hindi films rose after that, I guess, also coinciding with our economic downfall..

We should never take movies so lightly as it does portray or help creating perception about a culture and people. What has been portrayed through a movie character does leave the perception in people's from other region about the people and their culture which was showcased in that movie.
I believe people should not be blamed for this. Its basically the movie director or the team who have access or seen the people and culture of that particular region and still decides to portray the character in that way.

Being Telugu I am really happy that Tollywood movies are Box office success in National and International level, and as happy I am that these people with any success to South movie suddenly call it a Indian movie (which I am fine with) but believe me there isn't much change in reality. Recently my friend from Rajasthan called me a Tamilian. And in a party where Appadi podu was played my friends were saying it's your song pointing at me "a Telugite" and my other friend "a Malayalee". i happened to watch this movie, Meenakshi Sudareswaran (still crying that wasted my data ) , today and bumped into this video. i bawled when the actor asks to his colleagues in his office - "did you see anyone with a *lungi* " while searching for his dad , but actually it was a goddamn Veshti.

man I appreciate these vids sm like- I am a tamilian but I grew up in the north and this inaccurate stereotyping was a real deal for me to go thru everyday 💀 now I get it what made those ppl think like this abt us- at the beginning I rlly had no idea that Bollywood was so biased into this but now I see the amt of effort they put into portraying cultures in a national scale : which is ofc NIL. If they're gonna represent us they gotta do their homework properly b4 doing so coz by this they're just increasing the amt of racism and stereotyping more in the generations and the ones to come. Really insightful video thala keep yo game up 🏃‍♀️‼️✨
