I've never noticed the tag. Now that is really strange. It's obviously a later model Thunderbolt as it has newer style logos. However the tag itself is older. It has the older style Federal logo and is from Blue Island. Federal moved to University Park in 1983. It's almost as if just the tag itself was swapped out at one point.
The rotator boxes on 1003's are slightly taller so they can hold the wires for the solenoids. This is definitely a 1003 box. I agree with ChicagoSirens, this head was probably a replacement for the original 1003 head.
I just managed to spot the patches on the rain guard of the rotator. This is in fact a 1003 that was converted, along with the other unit in Niles
That 1003 rotator tho
The brown painted Tbolt I obtained from Pontiac in December is the same way. It has 1003 tags but has a 1000T head.
Great video! That's an interesting thunderbolt.
You can hear the blower really well
I noticed the horn and chopper are not rusty and worn, as the paint on the rotator is. My guess is the head was replaced like someone said, and they left the tag. Nice video, though!
I think the soilenoids were removed
Is this the one by Golf Mill shopping center? That was the first ever Thunderbolt I managed to get a picture of. I also found a 1003 in a park in Niles today and I got to get a close up of it.
I just thought it would be an interesting story to share.
Sounds like the brushes might be starting to go bad on this one
I noticed it hicupped
is that 1 RMP
Where is this one located?
I thought it was that one, but I didn't know that was still Niles. I've never noticed the rubber coupler repair for the blower pipe before seeing this video. I wonder if the pole came down and damaged the 1003 horn and solenoids, or maybe this one was just pieced together.
I really wish the one by Dempster and National Ave worked. :-(

Nice
UPDATE: Sirens blower was hit and damaged by a vehicle in April 2019. As of May 11, the siren and all its components have been removed to make room for a new siren, most likely a 2001-130.
That’s a damn shame, this thing could’ve lasted quite a few more years. Hopefully the remaining 2 in Niles stay in service for a long while yet. Do you have any idea what company installs/services the sirens in the area? Wondering if it’s someone locally or what, don’t know if any other companies except West Shore and I highly doubt they’re coming all the way out here.
Nick'sGarageDoorService Braniff Communications is the local Federal Signal dealer, and will be doing this particular site. Fulton Technologies of Roselle is the ASC dealer, and Frontline is the Whelen dealer which replaced the now closed Bucom Communications.
Thanks for the info. Drove by today and that crooked telephone pole is still there. I hope they jam a new one in the ground rather than reuse the existing one.
Nick'sGarageDoorService A brand new pole and siren were installed on 5/31/2019 by Braniff. It is a 2001-130.
Ah dang it
I only got to see it twice and barely hear it in an ambience once
