  • This is a review of the Dahle 166 premium pencil sharpener, which you can buy here: amzn.to/3RGFPH4 . Personally I prefer the Carl Angel 5 ( amzn.to/3RYOczs ), but the Dahle is better when sitting on the desk unclamped and has a more interesting visual aesthetic.

    I haven't used a wooden pencil in years. But, good to see they still make new mechanical sharpeners.

      I could go through an entire box of pencils just getting the settings right. 😊

    Very interesting review
    I haven’t had the need to sharpen a pencil since the 80s but I enjoyed learning about this product !

    I like the cool design, however I prefer a longer point than this one produces.
    Thanks for another helpful review.

    I do like that you don't have to hold the pencil in place. Definitely useful.

    "486-beige" made me laugh. Great review.

    Just a suggestion, but maybe there could be a future video discussing a Retro51 rollerball pen, a zoom-in/close-up on/of the "ball" and the amount of ink in the cartridges, both the original and the refills. You could do it on the The Rocketeer (Brass) rollerball pen.

    I use one of these myself, they're still fairly common here in Germany

    I've tried nearly every manual pencil sharpener on the market, and the best IMO is the CARL Custom and Carl Ein. The only drawback is they don't take wider pecils. If wider pencils is a must for you then the STAEDTLER Mars 501 is a good option.

      To keep it brief: I agree Carl is best.

    How heavy is it? Hope it feels substantial.

    You forgot to test a big triangular pencil, try a Ticonderoga Estudiante JUMBO, or maybe the Staedtler Eco Tri.

      Yea good call. I really dislike those but should get some for testing purposes

    Have you tried any of the inexpensive electric sharpeners? Especially the rechargeable ones. I see them around, but I'm curious if they actually do a good job.

      No not really. Like an afmat?

    EDIT: I made this comment before finishing the video where you suggested the Carl Angle 2000, which, according to the manufacturer, has rubber teeth to avoid damaging the surface of the pencil. Thanks again for the great review.
    I really love the aesthetic of it but not enough to get it. I've been looking for the perfect desktop sharpener and still haven't found it.
    I like that the Mistubishi KH-20 doesn't leave bite marks on the pencil but the tip is a little too long for me.
    On the flip side, the Carl Angel 5 Royal is great. The tip is pretty much perfect for me but I'm disappointed that it leaves bite marks. Everyone said it wouldn't, but it does.
    Do you have any suggestions on a tabletop sharpener that doesn't have too steep of an angle for the tip and doesn't leave bite marks?
    Thanks for the awesome review. You always knock it out of the park!

      Seemed to me that the damage to the pencil wasn't there (or that much) on other pencils than the first one. Of course rubber teeth are somethin worth investing in, but sturdier pencils aren't as easily damaged.

      @@lelandfitz1762 it's not the end of the world to me, but I prefer when the teeth don't leave any markings behind. As far as sturdier pencils not being damaged, that hasn't been the case for me. I've been using a number of Mitsubishi Unis, Tombows, Caran D'ache, pencils that I think most would agree are high quality, and they still leave grooves that are noticable, both visually and to the touch

    • @lelandfitz1762
      @lelandfitz1762 5 місяців тому +1

      @@bryan-zn8qc I didn't mean that this comes with lack of quality. I just found out that pencils with shiny surfaces crack easier than those who have a natural wood surface.

    • @Inazarab
      @Inazarab 5 місяців тому +1

      The CARL Custom is an upgraded model of the Angel 5. It has rubberized teeth and is nicer overall, and it's the same price. I would definitely suggest checking out the CARL Custom.
