it's a "cheiro", it's kind of a kiss on the cheek, but you're smelling the person, like "i like your smell". It's a way of show affection for a dear friend, a family member...

It's just for close people, and not all parts od Brasil, guess just Northeast... LOL

O "cheiro" é comum no sudeste e centro-oeste tbm, mas só entre família ou pessoas muuuuito próximas ahajhsjshs pelo menos pela minha experiência. Talvez no sul é comum tbm, só nunca fui pra lá.
This "cheiro" is Also Common in southeast and center-west regions, tho only for family members or really close friends. At least this I can say from my experience. Maybe in the south region is Common too, i just never been there.

my brother in law is not a hugger kisser and it is different with each person, so much so i feel awkward on greeting people because i never know what to do and they dont either because i am american! I try to enjoy and do the culture when we are there, because i understand that i am in there world not mine., lol

It's funny because here in Rio some people even ask for 3 ("mais um pra casar", they say)

I never realized that the “cheiro” was unique to us but now hearing it from a different perspective makes me feel very self conscious😂😂😂😳😳

Other ones: 1.Working along with Brazilian nationals chances are, once finishing out their lunch/meal they go teeth brushing no matter what; 2. Whistling, back patting are not unusual things; 3. They have sugar in their avocado fruit, instead of Mexican nationals who have salt; 4. Once the plane is airbone (during a flight) they might leave their seats for some strolling. No wonder they suddenly make acquaintace for an eventual small talk; 5. In Brazilian toilets you always find this corner located basket for collecting wasted toilet papers; 6. You never know for sure who is a typical Brazilian (Asian featured dudes, African Brazilians, Whites, Natives), specially when you do travel their huge country; 7. The rice & beans is definitely true; 8.Depending where you happen to be and meet for the first time, it is also common a lot of touch, patting; 9. Attending a funeral in Brazil it´s something 'casual'; 10. Very rarely you may find a Braziian one who can take seriously on time appointments. So, let´s say you intend to invite somebody to a party at 7 pm for instance, it´s pretty likely for a Brazilian show up as late as 8 or so; 11. Commonly among Brazilian seniors to address people as 'você tá mais gordinha e mas bonita' (you look as good as fatsome). As they sense somebody good looking as being fatsome. And it´s natural, not meant to offend at all.

The translation of MANÉ-PIPOCA is like "John popcorn" and the game is spelling each letter of each silab and than speaking the sylab and putting them together, like "M+A = MA, N+E= NE = MANÉ, P+I=PI = MANÉ PI, P+O=PO= MANÉ PIPO, C=A=CA=MANÉ PIPOCA", and than starting from the end to the beggining (C A-CA P O-PO, CAPO, until it gets "CAPOPI NEMA" (the contrary of mané pipoca). It's a song for kids to work memory

It's a thing I've only saw on NorthEast. I'm from Salvador and we do that a lot to people we really like.
Maybe, I'm going to be polemic, but if you're in Northeast and no one has ever given you a "chêro", maybe you're not that close to people. OR they don't feel you're very comfortable or open enough for them to show they care for you in that way.
