- Voronet Monastery is a medieval monastic complex, built in the village Voronet, today neighborhood of the Gura Humorului city. The monastery is 36 km from Suceava and only 4 km from the city Impact.
It is one of the most valuable foundations of Stephen the Great (1457-1504).
The church was built in 1488 in just 3 months and 3 weeks, which was a record for that time.
The Legend of Voronet Monastery origin from two great personalities of Romanian national destiny: founder of the monastery, Stefan cel Mare, and St. Daniil the Hermit, the first abbot of the monastery, famous hermit and confessor.
A lit from a holy candle tomb watches St. Daniel the Hermit, where the monastery community has light and blessing of morning, afternoon and midnight.
The interior painting of the church dates mostly from the time of Stephen the Great, 1496.
Scenes from the altar and nave artist sought to convey particular theological meaning of images, making a solemn assembly, but with obvious character of monumentality.
Through these inside paintings draw attention in particular: the Last Supper, Communion of the Apostles, washing of feet (altar), Cycle passions and votive painting of Stephen the Great (nave).
The exterior painting of Voronet, dating from the reign of Petru Rares, is performed at a high artistic level, it is considered as the most successful set of Moldavian feudal art.
In 1547 the Metropolitan Grigore Rosca, cousin of Petru Rares has started adding an enclosed porch, which adopts a unique solution in which architecture is visibly subordinate painted decoration: the western wall of the porch is a solid wall with no opening, and painting the outside walls of the foundation to the eaves, construction works which have given a great shine.
