- Randy cuts the breech in this video. He is rebarreling a pre-64 Mod 70 for a client to .264 Win.
For those who think he may not be doing this correctly, because you've not been taught to do it this way, we are sorry you were not schooled as he was. We guarantee THIS works and very accurately.
Also, he has been safely machining wearing long sleeve shirts at least half of each year for over 50 years and never once had an accident, let a lone a near call. Because he is CAREFUL and knows what he is doing. Randy threads and cuts the breech in this and the next video. He is rebarreling a pre-64 Mod 70 for a client to .264 Win.
God bless.

Randy, thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge for free for us here on youtube. Great manual machinists like yourself are getting fewer and farther between, and people my age and especially younger don't appreciate it enough. Thank you from the bottom of this 30 year old's heart!
Very cool! This is the 1st time I've seen an operation done at the chuck and nof on center.
Mr. Selby sir thank you for being honest and sharing all of your wisdom because calling knowledge does not even come close to describe what you do further more what you do is truly a lost art thank you sir sharing your wisdom with us.
A close up would be really helpful
Thanks for excellent video
Great instructional videos. Thank you Randy.
I've tailored my ammo and my personal rifles to do exactly what you do. You are a wealth of knowledge and experience.
I wish I had your wisdom.
A lifetime of precision firearms and custom reloading. All I know is the the fundamentals of marksmanship, and how to float a barrel, besides the reloading part. I could learn a lot from you, and will continue to do so.

Definitely is a lost art!I get tired of young shooters bragging that they can build their own custom rifle.Just simply buy a barrel that threads on.
I like your videos and your experience on firearms, but a I little constructive criticism you need to clean your shop people might be drawn away from you working on there stuff with your shop looking the way it does
For such an experienced machinists u would really want to remove the junk u keep stock piling on top of your head stock and on the shelving above ur lathe chuck. U say u do precision work yet you are storing your precision micrometers on the headstock of your lathe which is a warm surface which will absolutely affect the tollerence of your measuring equipment.
And before u start talking about ur 53 tears of experience, i am the owner of 3 tool and die companies
I agree cleanliness equals precision in any machine shop …48 years machining experience here
@Silver Fox he is constantly waffling on about his precision techniques and getting extremely defensive when questioned about his methods yet he uploads videos like this.
A few degrees Celsius of temperature fluctuation on measuring equipment is enough to put tollerence right out the window, I have seen micrometers shift a few hundrets of a mm due to temperature and yet this expert has them thrown on the machine and is constantly declaring his ability to produce precision work.
Its the only " precision shop" I have seen that has never used a dial indicator on his set ups, everything is based on assumption.
Using a so called " true chuck", does he not realise that a piece of swarf stuck between his chuck jaws from his filthy workshop is enough throw his barrells well out of concentricity.
I have 40 years of turning experience behind Me and I can safely say that his assumption of continuous accuracy from his machining and techniques is enough for me to question his abilities
just let it be. I find these videos entertaining
I don't claim to know nothing about anything,as a matter of fact I'm retarded,,but I have to ask would the tool only change if going from cold to hot or hot to cold, and zero is zero if I keep it in the oven or in the freezer
If you don't have anything nice to say then stay tight lipped we are doing something wrong according to someone else.
