Because on the right is the melody, on the left is the accompaniment. If you explain it in a simple way, the melody should stand out and sound with a different timbre, brighter, a “tremolo” is made on long notes, the accompaniment (harmonic filling) should sound a little quieter, more voluminous, therefore it is played with “pads” of the fingers to make a soft sound
@@oliviasarabesque So I was taught a similar reason to what the other person mentioned...that it depends on the type of song or sound one wishes to create. Different pieces require different choices. Not wearing nails on the left, definitely, makes the sound softer and let's the right hand sound, remain more dominant. Obviously, depending of the song and also the techniques required, I sometimes wear nails on both or just on the right hand.
