Information from Atlas Obscura:
MOST OF ADOLPHUS BUEL STANLEY is buried with his wife, Froney, at Macedonia Church of Christ. His good arm, however, met a premature end after he tried using dynamite to catch fish en masse in the Toccoa River. The deceased appendage finds eternal rest a few miles down the road from Buel himself.
Nestled in the mountains of rural northern Georgia, the Stanley Settlement cemetery holds a treasure trove of Fannin County history. It spills down the hill from Stanley Church of Christ, a white wooden structure in the style ubiquitous to Appalachia. The building, which also served as a schoolhouse, began its life as a Primitive Baptist church. After a Church of Christ minister beat a Baptist minister in a battle to spout more scripture, the church switched denominations, taking the whole valley with it.
The ill-fated arm is far from the only interesting thing interred there. Buel’s father, Elisha Stanely, shares the site’s first grave with Elv Evan Hughes. The brothers-in-law were murdered for resisting conscription into the Confederate army and buried in one hole because there were no menfolk left to help the women dig.
Though not all are as outlandish as a dynamite-induced amputation, each grave in the cemetery tells stories- stories of the people who called the valley home and helped shape the Stanley Settlement into what it is today.
The cemetery is on Harrison and Ada Road, off Aska Road. Buel’s arm is at the bottom of the hill among some of the oldest graves. - Розваги
You are so respectful when you visit cemeteries. I love that you told the woman, who just passed away, rest in peace. That's beautiful.
I love ALL your videos. This one cracked me up. I’m a southern girl and you trying to talk with a southern accent was the best! Thank you for sharing and always being so respectful to the ones resting in their final place. Keep them coming
Haha thank you so much for watching Lolita!!
Oh my goodness I am glad I am not the only one 😂.
“I read that afterwards he was all right” -Scott On Tape
🤣🤣🤣
I almost choked on my meatballs.
I didn't have meatballs to choke on but this had me laughing so hard. I know we have to be respectfull, and Scott always is. And still, I laughed. ❤😂
I literally heard that comment he said as I read ur comment 😂 got me too
I had soda coming out of my nose from laughing
Awww so lovely that people still lay flowers for beul and his wife , so kind
Hope his fam got a good deal on the plot. Burials cost an arm AND a leg.
hahahahaa love it!!
Bahahaha, this was one of your funniest videos so far.
The fish were probably cheering.
You're always so kind and respectful and make the jokes when it calls for it. Lol Dynamite might know Biscuits on the Bow.
I grew up with Wile E Coyote .... dynamite not good!! 🤯
Scott, I'm surprised you didn't see the spot sooner. All you had to look for was Buel waving at you 😂 💜
😂😂
13:36 mark
Beul: This is a fool proof idea!
Ward: There's a fool involved for sure... LOL! 😂
Hi Scott, that is a strange cemetery,it’s a shame his left arm isn’t with his right arm, perhaps he just left it behind. Your humour is infectious and funny,. RIP to the Stanley family 💐💐💐💐, thank you Scott 🤟🏼👍✌️⭐️
This video was a blast! 💥
😂😂😂😂
You single-handedly did it again, Great vid.
My great grandfather passed away in 1944, but in the 20's he had his arm amputated from a train accident and they buried his arm, and when he finally died, he was buried next to his arm in Snellville, Georgia
What were you smoking when you heard this story?! Leaving a rock on an arm??!! 🤣🤣🤣 There were several Weavers at that first cemetery and I wondered if they were my relatives on my Mom's side of the family. What a story! Thanks Scott!
Love your tongue in cheek humor 😆 while still showing dignity to the deceased. Two thumbs 👍 up on this video!
Scott my lovely you have just made my day. I nearly choked on my lunch watching parts of this. You never fail to respect and go into detail on the history of the places you visit. Even your interpretations and sense of humour was very tastefully done. A cemetery should not be all gloom and doom.
I just loved it.
Cheers from New Zealand 🥰🥰🥰
By the way I was wondering why you were talking about a pin 😂🥰
Scott you're such a weirdo, i love it! 😂Thanks for talking about this case, didn't hear about it before. Interesting story.
The reenactment made me feel like I was there , you always do a remarkable job .
Its uncanny really
the ward and Buell convo was my favorite part of this ...sounds like a couple fellas that would've enjoyed some biscuits on the bow...
04:26 lol Dude you crack me up me...😁The arms grave say's Buel lived from 1864-1946 and his bodies grave says 1864-1943, I only noticed because I was trying figure out how many years Buel outlived his arm which according to it's grave passed in 1915.
Ya it’s confusing for sure
@@SCOTTONTAPE Well one thing that is clear to me is after the dynamite explosion Buel wasn't much of threat being he was unarmed and such..
Nothing like abit of armless fun. All jokes aside though I have to hand to u Scott, you always manage to single handedly pull off the funniest videos. 😂😂😂
Lolol
Nailed it
"Not everything has to do with pop culture." Yes it does. I speak fluent pop culture. This video reminds me of Fried Green Tomatoes. The character buddy lost his arm and they gave his arm a funeral. Classic movie. Love it and love all that you do Scott. The G.O.A.T. delivers another epic, hilarious video. Thank you. Forever my favorite youtuber.
Fried Green Tomatoes was what I immediately thought of.
Scott you are so respectful of the dead. You are such a wonderful and in-depth person in every story you cover. BTW, I loved the southern accents 😂
🙏❤️🕊️
You cracked me up with this video… how can you be serious when there is just an arm n the grave. Safe travels Scott and thanks for taking us along for this ride❤
Excellent as always, Scott. Buel’s father, Elisha Stanley, shares the site’s first grave with Elv Evan Hughes, and Buel's mother Jane. Theirs were the first gravesite in the cemetery. I read this story in Ripley's years ago, and never forgot it. How cool to actually get to visit after all these years. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for the extra info Joe!
You're welcome, Scott, and thanks for another trip down memory lane.@@SCOTTONTAPE
You’re the best Scott. Once again humor, history and more humor. Absolutely love your channel.
Good Morning Scott from Oahu, Hawaii. I just moved here from Shreveport Louisiana. I Thank you so much for this Video & I'm your Biggest Fan For Life!
Smart for getting out of the main states!
Lesson learned! You learned well in the humor department and I'm sure Buell and Ward appreciated your humor....I sure did😂😂😂😂😂
Scott I love the obscure things you find for us, your humor is spot on ty I really needed your upbeat spirit are always so respectful to the graves
Love your dark humor
I feel bad for the one arm all by itself, RIP arm…even the arm got a stone ❤ Scott’s the man 😇 Dino-MITE!!!!
What a beautiful area!!!! Thank you for allowing us to see this. So peaceful.
As soon as you said a child of the 80s and dynamite I completely related then cracked up🧨🧨🧨
He's all right now. Well done.
You are very respectful, and please don’t worry about joking around, we all enjoy your content, and are grateful for your videos
Omg the accent had me rollin. Like a Smokey Mountain, Cajun kinda vibe lol RIP um Buells Arm 🙏💪😎
As a southerner, I approve this message 😂😂😂 That's got some Fried Green Tomatoes vibe buring the arm
Omg 💪 His ARM 😋 ..
This was classic Scott or should i say DY-NO-MITE!! 😂🔥 👍🏻🙏🏻
This is the FUNNIEST stuff I have seen EVER!!!!! I love you Scott!!😂🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Kelley!
In the middle of nowhere 😂 SCOTT your tour at the cemeteries are best 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I think it was his left arm because I read he was all right (alright) made me burst out laughing. So lame Scott but so funny. This has to be one the weirdest stories I have heard about a grave. Thank you Scott for getting my Monday morning off to a cracking start.
DYNAMITEEEEEEEE 🤣🤣🤣🤣 just made my day
Hi from Georgia. Blue Ridge is gorgeous. Gods country. I live down past Atlanta a bit
Blasted fish! Coulda cost that poor man an arm and a leg!
You are amazing Scott! 😂💗
I love how you tell a story Scott .😂😂 Earl its like biscuits on the bow
This is one of your funniest videos ever - that southern accent that got more southern the longer the conversation between Ward and Buel continued! Not heard of fishing in this manner before - but back then, one never knows! Visiting the grave of an arm. Where will you be taking us next? Wonder why the arm didn't make its way to Buel's final resting place? Interesting video, Scott! Keep 'em coming!
So many jokes, so little time. Thanks for getting some of them out ;)
Wow. You made the story about Ward and Beul come to LIFE! Very very colourful my friend!
As usual mate, you deliver the goods!
All the best from Australia.
Cheers.
Craig 🇦🇺❤️🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨
Another interesting video from Scott , WTF wasn't he buried with his arm when Buell died years later. Regards from Leeds West Yorkshire England UK 🇬🇧.
Scott, you had me laughing from start to finish 😂you really need to think about hitting the comedy circuit. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for poking a little fun at this situation. I mean, D.B. probably knew this was going to happen one day, maybe even wanted it too. He sounds like a joker himself for doing something like this. My sister Karen always says don't be sad when she goes, she wants to be buried in a clown outfit and ballons floating all over the place. She told us to have a party with music and fun and lots of laughs. And, yes, she's serious. Her personality in life is just how she wants her end to be handled. My other sister who passed away requested a graduation celebration because she was graduating into heaven. So, her kids did an incredible job with her service. She was buried in a graduation cap and yellow graduation gown. The funeral parlor and eating area were decorated with balloons and streamers. The leaflets you sometimes get at funeral services about the person who passed, her kids took those and rolled them up like diplomas, tied them in the center with a black ribbon and put them in a basket for people to take as they entered the parlor. She had a magnificent graduation cake too. My sister was an incredible writer of poetry and had written one poem about her graduation day into heaven, so her daughter read it at her service. All the tables for a gathering afterwards had white tablecloths, balloons in vases, and in the center of each table was a book stand that held another of her poems. Each table had a different one of her poems on them, so you could walk around the room reading them all. They also had a large autograph book for the guests to sign instead of a ledger that you would normally see. It was the most amazing service I had even been to. So, nothing is disrespectful to me other than bashing the dead. And you most certainly never do that. It's all in fun. Loved this video, Scott!! RIP DB ❤ 💐
A graduation celebration that is incredible! Your family stories are always a treat to hear Flo!
@@SCOTTONTAPE Your so sweet Scott. Thank you!
Playing out the video now.... current situation petting dogs at a dog show. Will watch later and comment 👍
This video reminded me of “Fried Green Tomatoes.” Buddy Threadgood Jr. lost his arm and they had a full funeral service for that lost arm! One of my favorite fictional stories about the south. I’m thinking it’s a great idea to retire in the south? Folks know how to properly care for their dead in them thar parts! Great story 🎣🧨🚫
What an interesting story!! We all give you a round of applause, well, everyone but Beul!!😂 Love your sense of humor!!!❤❤❤
Lolol
Great McConaughey impression!!😊
As always Scott your stories are done in a way only you can. This was pretty interesting but I agree prob not the best choice on buels end RIP ✝️🙏🏻

You're really funny, Scott...😅😂😂🤣🤣😅😅😅
lol Scott, you're a great storyteller! You made me laugh today on daylight savings day, so to speak. Thank you, sir!
If I could put my arm around you, I would say you certainly have inherited your mother's sense of humor!

Scott thanks for showing us such a beautiful cemetery and place and just think, we have thousands more similar/different places all over our great nation. Thank you for all the care and work you always put into yor videos.
Hello Scott. Hope you are well.
Absolutely love the channel Scott. I appreciate the work you put in for each story, the history, correct information, its really top notch. If you're ever in New England, the Sandy Hook school, Lanzas former house (now over grown grass), Ed & Lorraine Warrens old house/museum, Union Cemetery, the wood chipper murder (the famous scene from Fargo), are all within 10-15mins from each other around here. Reach out if you're interested man!
Yes I want to cover a lot of those !
@SCOTTONTAPE that's great, I've been living in newtown for about 14yrs and its kinda crazy the amount of dark stuff that's gone on here. Also if you like insane asylums, in the center of town there's an old insane asylum called Fairfield Hills, I've only heard from hearsay about the bad stuff that went on there, I can only imagine, unlawful treatment, murders, etc. The movie Sleepers, which starred De'niro and brad Pitt, was filmed there. Now it's actually a nice place where people go for walks, little baseball, etc. But trying to find into on the place is hard, it abruptly shut down in 1996 I believe.
Lol oh scott!! 🤦♀️ i thought you was just playin. The southern twang needs some improvements. Its good tho. Lol 😂❤✌️
Corey Haim passed away 14 years ago today. RIP Corey ❤

Keep up the great work and humor👍🏻😁 Be Safe🫶🏼
I love when I am watching your old videos and a new one pops up...thank you for the laughs, I needed that today 😂
Scott thanks for keeping me entertained while in the hospital I'm loving your acting too.
Get well soon Cathy !!
@@SCOTTONTAPE Thanks I'ma trying
I thought I saw on the arm grave for him 1946. Why does his grave say 1943? It was funny but respectful as always. I watched your Whitney and Bobby Kristina vlogs those were very interesting and you were awesome. You should check out some more cemeteries in a Georgia , there is one that is very old and abandoned with all kinds of old graves from the 1800’s. Peace ✌️ out Scott.
Wow! What a dynamite video that was Scott! I bet it's really going to blow up. I'm sorry I couldn't resist.
I love how you find the craziest story's. I am surprise there was a arm to even bury lol thanks for the video and sharing it with us!!
You were in my neck of the woods. I live in Blairsville, Georgia. My ex attempted this back in the day in Jefferson Georgia, while I watched..... I too thought he was a damn nut!! I think maybe 1 or 2 fish floated up.
Hi Scott Missouri here
Yr story telling is so good you always make me smile. You have my kind of sense of humour I lost my leg a few years ago I asked the surgeon if I could have my leg to use as a umbrella stand 🌂 😮😂😂
I don’t know if anyone else noticed but you did a great Matthew McConayghey impression.😊
Hi from Georgia. Blue ridge is gorgeous. Have fun
Around here in Georgia we refer to middle of nowhere places as bumfuked egypt.
Had to leave the "c" to keep it family friendly LOL
I have to remember not to be eating or drinking anything when I'm watching your video's like this...I dang near choked...😂😂...Love that southern draw there...Question, did Beull have Biscuits on the bow before he played with the TNT? Much respect to you for showing so much respect to the arm...Much love sent to you...
Thank you Kris !!
Enjoyed this one u were hilarious 😂
Omg you had me cracking up! You could be a stand up comedian
J. J. Walker HASN’T had as much exposure in years! DYNAMITE!

That's weird and wild stuff. As Johnny Carson used to say!
Hi Scott 🙋🏽. WOW that's incredible ‼️ I've never heard of anything like this before ‼️ thank you so much for inviting me to watch your video 👋🏽👍🏽😃
