- Today I am showing you how I made my Ikea shelf sewing table. It's great for pattern drafting, cutting fabric and can store a lot of supplies freeing up space in your sewing area.

Really nice job on that sewing table. I'm not at all handy with tools so I asked my husband to help me build a table like yours... but he started laughing! However, his laughing stopped (and mine started) when he saw that I was purchasing an expensive sewing table with one of our credit cards. "Any port in a storm."
hahaha that was such a good story!
Yes it was! 🤣😭
You and your husband work well together. Mine is not handy and would have kept sayin ‘are you sure that’s necessary?’ Lol
hahah! we have our fights too! But he is handy!
I love that learned to use tools. It's very important for female's to have useful skills. Glad you remembered Safety First. 😊
Thank you!
Besides the safety glasses or goggles, you should also be wearing at least an N95 type mask if not a respirator mask so that you don’t breathe in saw dust especially from things like plywood as there are a lot of glues and other stuff used in the manufacturing of plywood.
Thanks for the tip! Very important!
Im flipping a free dining table from fb marketplace. Adding shelves & caster wheels :)
thats so great! what a good idea!!
I just put together two of them, the same size. I thought it was super easy to do.. I totally agree with you!
I also put together a 16 cube and it was just as easy. I don’t understand how it’s so hard, but everyone is designed differently.
Keep working hard. You’re doing great!
I love the girl power. I know my mom would handle. I want to now. Good job.
Thank you! 🌸
Loved watching your video. My husband just built me a cutting table for my sewing room last weekend (Valentines). I love it. I used tops that I had from my previous cutting tables that had drop sides. I really liked watching your video you are so cute! You remind me of my daughter!
How wonderful Cindy! A sewing table is such a lovely gift for a sewer how sweet of your husband! And I am honoured to be reminded of your daughter :) Happy sewing!
You are so adorable! I enjoyed watching your video!
Thank you so much!
I made a table similar to this a few years back, slightly different though. I used the 4 cube shelves on either end as I wanted to sit in the middle and needed leg room. My table is 4'x8' and the top is MDF with a white melamine sheet glued onto it, I use mine for dyeing my silk scarves and storage. Thinking on it I think it may be time for me to do some deep cleaning lol.
I need a table thank you for your video. Beautiful table
You are so welcome!
I’m definitely going to watch this video again and maybe do this this looks awesome 😎 thank you
Thank you so much! you can do it Kelly!
You should be proud. Most men would be scared to take on that project. Someone has taught you well along the way. My wife is like that. She just gathers the tools she needs and jumps right in when she need something.
Thank you Kevin! I truly am flattered!
it's beautiful! congrats!!!
Thank you Jimena!
Absolutely love your table. Thank you so much for sharing. I plan to use your design to make one (myself with my husband’s help) for my sewing area. I’m 6’ so I need a big cutting area because I use a lot of fabric. Thanks again!
Well done you. It's just the thing for your new space☺
Yes indeed! I feel so blessed!
I haven't access to woodworking space so my table will have to be made in situ in the bedroom which is small! Youv'e given me many good ideas though and can't wait until Ikea is open again so I can go and buy my stuff! Thankyou for this video. You worked very hard and it was good to see hubby helping. I'd need a table a bit smaller than yours otherwise I won't be able to get into the room! So I am pondering what to use as the table top. Worktops side by side would be too big but I am thinking there are ways around that.
Thank you! I am so glad that you enjoyed! There are countertops that are 30 wide. That could work really well, i think you can even get them at IKEA too! Lots of options! I put a bunch of other tutorials in the description. You might find they suit your needs better :)
Your face when you saw him use the table saw LOL 😂 beautiful table so much storage!!!👏
Haha, in awe but also squinting against the sawdust haha
I think he used a miter saw and later a circular saw! I didn't see a table saw in the video :)
Your fabric table is beautiful.
Thank you! 😊 so much!
I’ve been thinking about a 4’ x 8’ table and had almost given up on the idea of making it non-permanent. Your base is excellent. You don’t have the Kallax units doing much beyond support which is smart. That frame at the base is providing the structure. Now I have more sketching (and calculating!) to do. Thanks for a genuine, honest video.
Yaaay I am so glad to help!!
Well done.
Thank you Kathleen!
Wonderful idea 💜💜💜
Thank you! 😊
I’m inspired🥳
Nice table!
Thankssss
This is great video on put together an ikea Kallax and the table.
Glad you liked it!
Love your cutting table! I use my old dining table as my cutting table!
Im a beginner and I don't know until when my craving for learning how
to sew my own garments would take me, but if I have a choice I would
love to have similar table as yours! Good idea there!
Thank you! I hope you get to make your dream table!
this is so real. i love that you did not make it look professional or so easy. u kept it real girlfriend.
thank you! I like to keep it real :D
I haven't see the video yet and I can't watch it rn but just from the thumbnail alone: I Want
Hahaha I hope you enjoy when you do get around it it!!
You did such a beautiful job! I’m afraid it’s a little too much work for me. But I love the job you did!
Thank you so kindly!
Nice!
Thank you Linda!
Interesting process. Some handles on the ends of the shelving units would help facilitate moving the piece for access to the rear cube spaces.
so true! Thanks for the tip!
Nice. Plus, your name is my & my mom’s first names combined. ☺️
Oh no way! so cool!
Loving the new table! Can I also say that you are looking *RADIANT* ✨
You are so kind thank you!
Cute. I recently bought kallex jan 2024 to make a cutting table and they now have legs(underframe - it doesn't have its own name, it is kallex )
Never had any problems putting together any ikea furniture but some of the other buildyourself things occasionally ship their packages with improperly drilled parts
Oo yeah that would be annoying!
You are going to want seal them with a non oil. Oil will continue to contact transfer onto your fabric and pattern paper.
You are so right, I had to wipe off all the oil later haha!
Pocket screws and wood glow would keep the two table tops together.
Thanks for the tip!
What are the total dimensions of your sewing table and the opening in the middle to hold fabric rolls? The area for each Kallax with edging and the total measurement of the base of the table. Did you add the small square wood to install casters to ensure the nails didn’t go through to the base? Do you believe the table top can hold sewing machines/etc. without being secured to the Kallax units? Thank you for answering my questions.
Base Frame: Base Plywood Width 38.125" Length 62 min
with 1.5" thick wood frame on top.
3" in the middle
The area for the kallax shelves was about an 1/8" to a 1/4" wider than the kallax shelf width and for the new kallax it had just over an inch extra on one end.
It was a bit higgledy piggledy.
Yes the squares of wood were to keep the screws for the casters from going through the base.
Since I had the carpet stay on top, the weight of the table top keeps it in place and I have put all manner of things on this table even (carefully) getting on it myself.
I made the frame and the detachable table top so that it was easy to disassemble and move if needed and switch out the old kallax shelf for a new one that matches the other new one i have!
There are a few links in the description of easier but less portable ways of
What is this magical fabric that you speak of and where can I get some?
I love that brown jumper you're wearing at the end of the video! Did you make it or buy it? (I didn't see a video on it on your channel).
I made it actually! I'l have to do a tutorial at some point! It is really simple :)
@@LydiaNaomi Yes please! :)
Oh yes and, beautiful table ^_^
Hi! Can you please tell me what screws you used with these casters? Because IKEA furniture isn’t real wood, I’m wondering what screws to use to install similar caster wheels to my Kallax as well. Thanks!!
Oops I realize you added wood blocks in between so that wouldn’t help me as I’m screwing directly into the kallax 🤦🏻♀️
I don't remember! sorry
Okay but ive been saying for 3 weeks now that my new apartment is having a huuge rollling/ free standing counter either from kallax or the drawers Bernadette Banner used in hers, the coincidence 😅
*What did the total height come to from the floor?
*What size casters did you get?
*How tall are you? Hows it feel having used it abit?
Yes! Doo it!! It’s truly great! I actually just watched her video last night! Yes very similar!
My total height came to 37” and I use a stool when I want to reach the other side it works perfectly! I’m 5’4. The casters are 3”, linked in the description ☺️
@@LydiaNaomi Thank you so much for your reply!
We're about the same height so that gives me great hope!
I can't wait 5 weeks until i move into my first owned apartment :D
@@galli0 that is so exciting!! It will be fun thank set up your own place and, not to mention, your own study space!!
Fearless wearing black to paint a table white!
hahaha yeah! that dress now has a lil white paint stain, I didn't like the fabric so its now my 'at home' dress!
May i ask where you got your shoes?
The sandals were from a store on queen but you can get them online, they're made in Spain avarcasusa.com/
The black slip ons are Ecco, super comfy! I can't remember if I wear any others haha
Awww you answered 🥺🥺 thank you so much! I’ll definitely check them out
I agree...KALLAX shelves aren’t hard to put together. If I can do it, anyone who isn’t scattered and throwing a tantrum can also do it! (SORRY, NARCISSISTS. 🤷🏻♀️)
Just put on some music that brings your mind in an open & patient space, and go for it! 👍 Hydrate & have something to eat beforehand, so you don’t use being hangry as an excuse. And go to the bathroom, too. And wear something comfy.
That’s the spirit!!
What are the dimensions of this table?
The height is 37" from the ground (original design was to be 36" cause I'm only 5'4" but it still works great), I use a stool if I need to reach far across. The table top is 52" by 72" (two countertops together). I don't even know the base dimensions just that its a bit wider than the Kallax shelves together for the frame. You really don't have to make a frame like I did, I just like how easily it can disassemble! I've linked a few more basic tutorials in my description as well!
Why are the fuzzy rectangles there?
Hi Susan, happy to help! What point in the video are you asking about?
@@LydiaNaomi HI! x Start about 11.15 and in the top right corner. BTW, I love the work you have done and I admire you too! Come and help me with my craft room? LOL! ;) xxx
@@SusanRoseArt oh I am blurring out our vehicles. And thanks!
@@LydiaNaomi AH!! Thanks :) xx
Good job learning the saw but instead of closing your eyes u should wear protective eyeglasses instead.
100% you are right! thats why I said a disclaimer so that noone thinks its a good idea haha!
They are easy to put together but those wooden dowels are the devil. I think I broke everyone before I had to go to Home Depot to get replacements. Was able to put them together with lesson learned from earlier errors.
Oh no that’s annoying! Well, glad you learned!
Not related to the table but whenever yall talk when it's speed up you sound like animal crossing characters 😭
hahaha that's entertaining!
