I saw The Daytona 200 last year. It was my first time at a track with these types of banks. You can’t appreciate this until you see it in person. Seeing motorcycles race around Daytona was awesome.
Wow that is a really cool perspective and gives me a whole new level of respect to those drivers!!!! That’s awesome!!! TV doesn’t give it justice at all for its height of the turns!!! So cool!!
There’s a hill in Ft Leonard Wood, MO behind a gas station with a car wash that is nicknamed “Car Wash Hill.” It’s about a mile down the hill and a mile back up. We would run it every so often for PT and on the mile run back up, it was about the same grade as this. I just remember running up that hill, leaned forward, and I could reach forward and touch the ground in front of me. I hated it.
I used to race dirt track at the fastest little track in Texas, which is gone now, but it was called Cowtown Speedway. Their are videos of it here but if I remember right. It had a 32 degree bank in the turns. From the top of the turn you could see the tops of cars on the inside. It was crazy!
Got to take a tour on the track in NC, was mind blowing! They took us in a van that had race car specs (allegedly) and then we did about 140 almost on the bank* and it’s just as you can imagine. Feels like you’re gonna flip THE ENTIRE TIME
Did this at Daytona when I was a kid for family vacation. Pretty cool actually Jeff Gordon won the Daytona 500 that yr and they had the car he won with on display inside the facility
My family used to camp on the infield at turn 2. Nothing like waking up to the sounds of qualifying and then watching the real thing. Watched Dale JR hit the wall, snuck onto the track, ran from cops after sneaking on said track 🤣🤣 Core memories 🇺🇸🦅
I had the chance to do this in Daytona on a family vacation in 1996. Blew my little 11 year old mind how steep the embankment was and how it was so different than what it appears on TV! 🏎️💨
Looks like they have VIP passes, seeing how there doesn’t appear to be any rubber laid down maybe they got permission to go out real early before any official running of an event.
The sound when the cars come by you….your entire body shakes…..nothing like it…..Talladega is 30 min from my house and it’s been so much fun through the years
NASCAR cup races are certainly a fun time!! Been to 2 cup races in my time one in Sonoma in 2016 and once just recently in Atlanta at the Quaker state 400!! I live in Colorado and we have know big tracks out here and it sucks lol.. 😅😂
I’ve been to a few racetracks throughout my life but wow I didn’t know this one have this insane angle. The ones I’ve been to are also angled but this is just bigger. So awesome
At Bristol motor speedway in TN. Around this time they have lights at the speedway. They setup lights all around the racetrack. But , at the end of the lights. It opens up to the racetrack and you can actually drive on that angle of the track. It’s mad scary but fun.
I had always assumed the comments that it was "like a 3 story building" were an exaggeration, then in 2005, I got to drive my Camaro around Talladega for 3 laps. It REALLY is a 3 story building! Going under 90mph, had to hold steering wheel to the right to stay up on the banking. After 120mph, had to start steering left to stay off the wall. Coming off Turn 4 onto the flatter front stretch, drifting towards the outside wall, the sound of my exhaust at wide open throttle echoed off the wall and scared the 💩 out of me! Sounded like a dump truck was about to t-bone me. This was just before the re-pave, so still had bumps and dips from track settling which caused my car to move up 1-2 lanes in the turns. Can't imagine how pro drivers could drive inches apart at over 190mph and not crash into each other every lap.
Now I understand how cars sometimes get high-centered (high-edged?) between the track and the apron. That’s a hell of an angle! Still, I think it’d make sense to add a bit of a smoother transition but idk much lol
I was working a stage build at Bristol a few years ago. The worst part of the day was walking up that turn at the end of the day. Even going for lunch was a pain. It wasn’t at the steepest part like here though, closer to the start of the turn.
It caught me off guard as well when we hopped over a wall at Texas Motor Speedway and suddenly it was like we were at the top of a freakin ski slope! It was high and it was STEEP! IT is a very steep angle.🏁
This reminds me of my crazy dream where my whole neighborhood has this kind of an incline everywhere I went. It ended when I fell from like 70 ft cause I was running down hill lmaooo
You can take tours of these tracks. They'll put you in a van and drive a few laps around the track at 90 MPH. You take the corners high to feel the bank.

Always make sure to keep your upper body forward.
At 33° slope the gradient is a bit more than 1/√3, or for every √3 metres horizontal displacement your height increases by 1 metre, or around 57%.
Remember that guy who proposed a circular runway like this 💀
Frizz was puttin' in way more effort than he needed to but not moving forward 😂
Why do "dads" shoes always be falling off 😂💯
I dont watch cars go round in a circle, but this angle is an insanely cool thing I didnt know.
If you walk backward up it’s a lot easier, if you have good shoes and good balance you can do 40+ degrees.
Didn’t expect those corners to be that steep!
“Holly smokes” was worth it
