My 76 had the mini chrome cap over the grille with the goddess on the hood instead of the Cadillac crest. I had tru spoke wheels with center spinner caps. With the 1 inch wide white wall. The real eye catcher was that I had my side skirts in CHROME. The car was straight as a pin! Oh what memories! I LOVED MY COUPE DE VILLE!! Enjoy your car sir!
As a Cadillac owner for over 4 Decades, this is an exceptional car, I actually liked the Sedan Deville's over the Fleetwoods in these years because of the pillarless window opening, I had a 73, and 75 Sedan Deville , I drive an 88 Brougham now... great video..
When I moved from Texas to San Diego, CA, The 1st car I purchased was 1976 Cadillac Coupe deVille with d'Elegance package I purchased from my next door neighbor. Cotillion White with deep emerald green supple leather interior! LOVED IT!! I had just turned 21, it was my first Cadillac and it was the beginning of a life long love affair!
Driving the family home from one of the numerous events marking the United States Bicentennial in 1976, my dad stopped by the local Cadillac dealership so I could pick up a showroom brochure. I'll never forget that '76 Sedan de Ville in Crystal Blue Firemist with a Dark Blue Metallic vinyl roof. That car, set against all the Bicentennial banners and decorations, looked like a 4-door July 4th celebration on wheels! Beautiful automobile.
My parents had a 76 Coupe DeVille Brougham D'Elegance with a 472 ci engine under the hood. Car also had a turbo 400 transmission with a posi-trac rear end. That car would absolutely burn both back tires clean off if you wanted to do it. It literally floated going down the road. The dealership where he bought it bought it back from him after 2 years and give him $2500.00 more for it than he paid for it. We drove the car to Florida 4 or 5 times as I can remember and none of us were tired when we arrived. That's how good those big pillowed seats were. Theirs also had the rare option of a sun roof. That option cost $1400.00 from GM in 1976 money. That was a lot of money for a sun roof in those days.

Beautiful classic disco era Caddy....if I only had the room. I had & still cherish a 76 White CDV D'Elegance, white body with dark green landau top & pillow velour in matching dark green. Mine did have the special smaller see-thru Caddy crest ornament. Still remember driving her with a car load of friends on so many day & night trips with the 8 track blaring. Cheers !
She's stunning. I rode in one of these, it was a 76 with only 70,000 miles on it . This was in 1993. It was incredibly smooth and quiet. It was not in this condition, but was nice. The difference between the 76 and 77 models are really noticeable side by side. The 77s were about 750 pounds lighter.
With the exception of the fact that ours was a "D'elegance" trim, this car is identical to the one in which I learned to drive, way back in the day. Ours had that plush pillow-top upholstery. The hood ornament did serve a very practical purpose. If you line up the hood ornament with the lane marker on the right, you know you're in your lane. With that mile of hood in front of you, you need every trick. What a ride that was! The wood trim on the steering wheel on ours did come out after we traded it, I happen to know. We even had the CB.
I loved those big cars back in 76, they were tanks, I love the comparison of the 2 cars, yeah the 76 WAS a big car, the Fleetwood looks a bit small, so it's a very good comp, yeah, what an era, big, comfortable, luxurious, you don't have it anymore, pity!!!!

A high school friend's family owned a 1976 Sedan de Ville in Rosewood metallic paint with matching interior. Unfortunately, the Dad was never able to close the garage door because of the length of the car. The mother drove a 1977 Buick Regal in brown with beige vinyl landau roof and they also had a 1974 blue Toyota Celica with white paint trim along the side of the body I think, and they named it, "Blue Bell." It was rarely driven. The frameless windows and absence of the B pillar was a great look with all that expanse of open air driving. My family had a more humble equivalent 1976 Chevrolet Impala.
The color is called Bavarian Calumet Cream. Calumet is French so, it's pronounced "calewmay". The "T" is silent. I have a 1976 Fleetwood in the same color. I love it. :)
I never noticed before that the DeVilles didn't have the front door rotating reading lights as the Fleetwood Broughams had. I remember in 1977 they called the new Cadillacs were called knee breakers because for the time a 1977 Cadillac was a much smaller car.
The year that this Caddy came out was one of the last times our lives actually made any real sense. After this, it seems we've become automotive girlie men!!
The video stated that the arm-rests commonly cracked. But they CAN indeed be re-formed. The company "Just Dashes," who also restores cracked padded dashboards, does the job very well.
I almost bought a coupe this color, but the sales person treated me like crap so I walked across the street as bought a 76 Buick Electra limited loaded . I was 18
You're wrong about the hood ornament. Starting in 1976 Cadillac began putting them on the DeVilles and Fleetwood Broughams. Only on the DeVilles, it was a 'see through' ornament with just the crest. They came that way from the factory. This one was obviously replaced with one from a Fleetwood or Eldorado. And that Calumet Cream is an awful color in my opinion. I have a 1976 Fleetwood Series 60 Special Brougham D'Elegance in that color with the darker 'buckskin' top. I want to eventually have it painted black.
Some came on the nose. The standing ornament was an option on Devilles. I have had both. On the color, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Take care.
@@marcwoodward850 Yes, you are correct! My 1976 Sedan Deville had both the nose AND the hood ornaments. It had originally been the car of some district manager at Cadillac so I guess that's why it was ordered with both. He sold it to a man who only used it on special occasions and I bought it from him. But the man in the video is still wrong. This is an Eldorado wreath and crest hood ornament and that piece was added at some time. The Deville ornaments were definitely a 'see through' ornament and without the wreath!

Nice car but the 1976 Lincoln Continental and Mark IV were superior to the full-size Cadillacs of that era. However, the 1976 to 1979 Sevilles were outstanding compared to the Versailles. Regardless, the 1973 Coupe DeVille is my favorite of the 1971-1976 years. My father's 1976 Oldsmobile 98 had horrible factory paint that was flaking off by the early 1980s. I also like 1977-1979 Coupe DeVilles. Lincoln also ruled the 1960s starting in 1961 but the 1963-1964 Cadillacs were still outstanding.
I actually agree with you. I had a turquoise ‘76 Mark IV Givenchy with 32k mi. and a ‘78 Continental Town Car with 42k mi. in a similar color to this Cadillac.

The 1976 Givenchy Designer Edition cost $1500 with a choice of either Aqua Blue leather or velour upholstery, but the exterior paint was always Aqua Blue Diamond Fire Metallic with a White landau vinyl roof. I currently have a 1976 Lincoln Continental Town Car (four doors) in Dove Gray with forged aluminum wheels and velour upholstery (big head rests on the front seats). Did you ever own a late 1970s Seville or Coupe DeVille?
@@SpockvsMcCoy Yesterday I went online searching for photos of those big headrests, but didn’t find what I was looking for. When I was about 10 years old I rode in the back seat of my cousin’s 1977 or 1978 Lincoln and I couldn’t get over how large the headrests were, compared to those in my aunt’s 1972 Fleetwood Brougham. Incidentally, back then my cousin was car crazy and got 3 new Lincolns within the time span of less than 3 years. Today he’s flat broke, in part due to his very wasteful spending on new cars. Right before the run of Lincolns he got a brand new 1976 Buick Electra 225. After the Lincolns it was a Triumph Spitfire. And then a new Thunderbird just before they were radically downsized. And then a Mustang convertible. Totally unrestrained spending by someone who really didn’t even make much money and spent a huge portion of it on new cars.
Compared to the 1976 Continentals, the Cadillac interior fabrics were hideous! The plaid and stripes were just gross. I doubt this one has the EFI option.

My folks would take me around to get brochures too. I remember the incredible 1970 Eldorado in the showroom… I was transfixed as a 13 year old kid.
