Altuve, Bregman and any Astro involved should be banned for life!
Cody Bellinger was mad and vocal
I had the pleasure of working as a sports copy editor at Newsday in 1987-88 when Tom was there. Three-time National Sportswriter of the Year? No surprise to me. Tom is as knowledgeable as they come and total class.
If replay is gone as fallout from this, I'm OK with that.
it's ok to have replay but do it in real time. No more of this looking at the play for 30 seconds and deciding. It's fucking ridiculous
Cody Bellinger the NL MVP has voiced his opinion.
I would give forgiveness to the first 2017 Astro player to come forward! Otherwise, they are COWARDS hiding in the darkness and protection of Union, MLB and there “loyal” fans.
Is he deff? I’m hearing players complaining about the Astros. You’re just ignoring them.
I think that is why Beltran was hired. The mets wanted to do the same thing
Makes me shake my head to think how good Strasburg and Mad Max were in game 6 and 7 to overcome every advantage the hitters likely had
@@Veaseify Steve my man if you knew fastball or offspeed before it was delivered that's a huge deal.
@@ogmangler8820 In theory yes, but the number crunchers have looked at the Astros stats and its hard to see any correlation...some of their hitters have better road splits than home from the period in question.
@@Veaseify yes I saw that stat line as well.
I'm changing the argument here but....help or not if they are wearing electronic devices they should get lifetime bans.
If it's just stealing and relaying signs the old way it doesn't bother me.
Fantastic interview, just a great sports conversation between 2 experts, awesome radio and Verducci is correct---turn off all electronic equipment in the clubhouse once the game starts.
And the dugout and the playoff booth and bullpen. Have MLB security monitor those locations.
MLB should make the Astros play their home games behind closed doors
Hinch wanted to keep his job!!!!
Radio silence....not anymore. Trout, Markakis, Dodgers
Tom Verducci is completely lost. There is lots of footage regarding the Astros cheating during the 2017 World Series.
nymike06 jomboy posted a video of fiers cheating to throw a no hitter
Another shoe to drop? Buzzers!! Say it ain't so, Jose!
Missing one question: "Tom, you're with SI. Do you think MLB should also investigate the 2014 SI team that boldly predicted the Astros would win the 2017 World Series?"
Pak RT You are just stupid, sport magazines and different people in general can predict which team gonna win a championship and guess right. Jesusssss!!!
@@checoPH dumbness personified is for those who can't differentiate between being literal and being sarcastic
We should boycott MLB next season.
HERE IS THE WAY YOU CLEAN UP "SIGN STEALING"..............ALLOW PITCHERS, CATCHERS AND THEIR MANAGERS/COACHES TO BE ABLE TO ELECTRONICALLY SIGNAL PITCH SIGNS!!!
what about hiring the triple A manager instead of a person like Beltran who never managed in his life?
10:00 this line of thinking didn't age well. Radio silence no more.
Trevor Bauer complained n he is active player
You don't hear anything because baseball players don't talk about anything.
7:48 when people are cheating like this, Tom yeah something is wrong with this world.
Gibby will manage the Mets.
Loved him in Toronto
Hmmm, Verducci doesn’t know that the live video signal showing catcher signs can be blocked? Or
Equip pitcher and catcher with secure devices to avoid signs altogether!
Why won’t one HONEST player admit guilt and voluntarily take a 1 Year suspension without pay ? Think about what this could do to help baseball survive!
Why do the coaches on the Astros coaching staff, except Cora, get a pass? They had to know what was going on, and they did nothing to stop it.
because he is the center of the Black Sox scandal. he will get 2 years to life, don't worry.
@@deweyoxburger2963 But there were other coaches on the Astros staff that had to know what was going on, and they get a pass. Why? You tell me the hitting coach didn't know what was going on? Phil Nevin threatened to punch out the Astros hitting coach in the 2019 playoffs with the Yankees for whistling signs to hitters.
Him talking about all the way back to 14...likely Joey Bats, Donaldson and EE were getting tips in Rogers centre.
I remember rumours of Jays cheating then.
And I love the Jays
Tom is dead wrong about current players complaining. The league has spoken, your livelihood is in the league (see owners) hands. Any future contract you might want is in their hands. Ask Curt Flood what happens when you don't toe the party line. Notice all the reporters who have a show on MLB calling out for actions against cheating players. LoL not going to happen. The owners could careless as long as there is more scoring.
If the Mets GM doesn't get fired its all a laugh. Did he not think to ask Beltran about the whispers? The he is dumb or lying. Even after teams complained the league did squat. The league has no clothing.
Fiers gratefully accepted his World Series ring in Houston as a member of the Tigers in 2018. If he felt it was tainted, why take the ring? I didn’t hear him complain about cheating in 2017 as an Astro. Fiers last outing in 2019 was against the Astros. There is no evidence of cheating in 2019. Fiers was lit up for 8 runs, 5 homeruns in one inning of work. I bet the Astros dugout really let him have it. One month later, he goes public. Hmmmm.
No evidence of cheating in 2019??? What about “Don’t rip off my jersey” Altuve just 3 months ago???
MLB found no evidence of any cheating in 2019, including ALCS, World Series.
MegaTechpc They cheated in 2017, no doubt. My point is there is no evidence of cheating when Fiers got lit up or in 2019 playoffs. Astros were 0-4 at home in WS.
I haven't sat down to watch a single inning of baseball my entire life and even I'm pissed off about this Rich.
Cody Bellinger (A Major League Hitter) literally demonized what the Astros did and said it Ruined the Integrity of the Game. Also Pretty sure the dodgers didn’t cheat based on our Home Strike Out Numbers
ALL time worst cheats in baseball by far. A lot of people hurt in many ways. Guilt without remorse. Disgraceful!
I don't know who would want to manage these teams right now. Duck and cover.
B Smith got to be kidding me! LOL 20 mangers have applied to coach the Astros and why not they are loaded
Still the Dodgers lose... makes my day..
Lol Dodgers haven’t won in forever. Let them have one again. Should have been Yankees vs Dodgers but MLB allows cheating because the average fan doesn’t want to see the Yankees in the World Series. they get screwed out of more calls than any team. Brian Cashman sent the commissioner evidence of the Astros cheating years ago and it was all ignored
Beltran was with the Yankees in 2019. Might need further investigation.
Yeah ok, nice try leave the Yankee hate out of this, Astros and Red Sox are the two teams accused of cheating. Beltran was a special advisor with the Yankees not a player or Manager. Beltran is already out as the manager of the Mets. So who are supposedly investigating in the Yankees??? Smdh
Astros weren’t the only team. Just the only team who got caught
Thats what all CHEATERS say when they get caught. Too bad, Lucky the title was not taken away.
Just came out Jose Altuve had wires under his jersey while batting , take away the Championship take away the Astros Franchise have another city start up a MLB Team.
Americas Team
No it didn't ffs Not saying they didn't find a new way to cheat but it didn't 'come out he had wires etc' lol. That's speculation & there's nothing near proving it ffs Don't spread bs!
@@JustMeELC I just watched a YES Network video where they showed the pictures of something bulging under Altuve's shirt.
@@JuliusGalacki I did too... then someone posted a bunch of photos of all teams with similar bulges everywhere 🤷♀️
@@JustMeELC well, that's interesting. It implies one of 2 things: either Altuve is unfairly being besmirched or (electronic) cheating is a problem way beyond the Astros.

We'll know eventually I imagine. I'm just trying to picture how comfortable & fun their Fanfest will be for them this weekend lolol
Wow! I just checked the Astros' regular-season home/away splits for 2017 and 2018. Amazingly, both years they had a better road than home record, and better offensive road stats. IOW, the cheating scandal is making a mountain out of a molehill.
@@shuatreee , I didn't say that. I just pointed out that, judging from the Astros' regular-season home-away splits, the cheating didn't seem to positively impact their performance at home.
@@l.rongardner2150 fair enough. Your making a mountain out of a mole hill comment seemed to be saying more than you intended then.
Tom said it’s not over because the Yankees are next!
Joe man clearly a Yankees hater....if they were cheating, they were the worst cheaters ever. You gotta know how much they swing and miss if you are even a little bit of a baseball fan. Or are you just that dumb?
What are the Yankees accused of in sign-stealing scandal, and what are the facts?
As for Boston? 'Everyone knew [the Red Sox] were doing something'
By Andy Martino | Jan 7 | 2:02PM
On Tuesday, the Athletic published a story reporting that a) MLB will investigate claims that the Red Sox used their video replay room to decode opponents' signs in 2018 and b) the Yankees did the same beginning in 2015.
It's worth taking a moment to parse the significant differences in the accusations between the Yankees and Red Sox.
No one is denying that some Yankees used their video room in 2015-17 to decode signs, as The Athletic reported. But there is a significant difference between that and doing the same in 2018, when MLB clarified its rules.
Decoding signs and then giving signals when on second base is straddling the line and I truly believe almost all if not all teams are doing this. But the key is, you need people on base, and you need a player on base to be smart enough to decipher the pattern and give a signal in a short period of time. Not saying it’s right, but I believe it’s very common. So to include the Yankees in this category is not saying much. If this all the Red Sox were doing, even if was happening in 2018 after rule had been changed, then I truly don’t think they will face harsh penalties and I also don’t think they should just based on the court of public opinion. It seems like the public doesn’t find this to be atrocious. The question is if they went much further than this, to the point where the Astros were clearly getting to for years. Time will tell.
Joe man like I said, clearly, whatever small extent that Yankees were going to “cheat” (giving signs from a base runner), it couldn’t have been doing much. Their strikeout rate in 15, 16, 17, 18 were all verrry high. The proof is in the numbers. Look at home strikeout rates for Houston/Boston in 17 and 18. They made a dramatic jump. Part could be player working hard, but hard to say it’s a coincidence when this much stink is being made and the first one, being Houston, has now being proven that the strikeout rate improvement was absolutely a direct result from the trash can/whistle/buzzer ideas. To say the Yankees are next up to get hammered the same way as Houston/Boston just doesn’t make any sense at allllll, analytically speaking.
