The Bongos were an 80's alternative rock band. I remember they received some fairly positive reviews in some rock magazines. "Barbarella" is the song I remember them for.
I saw them live in the late 80s where Ben Harper opened and blew them out of the water. But Bongos Numbers with Wings was a great song and they had some moderate success as an alt/new wave band in the early 80s.
Another great video, thank you. The Rose of Avalanche (who like you I had no clue on) has one song on Spotify and I think it’s rather good. UK band with several albums, the one you held up is actually a compilation. Labeled as goth rock on Discogs.
Stopped there my last day in Seattle. I had already bought too many records to haul back to Maine so I limited myself to one. Found R. Crumb & His Cheap Suit Serenaders Vo. 1. Could have spent a lot more time and money there. NRBQ are opening for Bonnie Raitt on her next tour. Lucky enough to have seen Soft Machine open for Jimi Hendrix in 1968. Had no idea who they were at the time.
My favorite band from Seattle is a band called The Green Pajamas. You most probably know them, of course, but it's such a terrific band. They've been around since the late 80s and never stopped recording, either as The Green Pajamas or Their main songwriter, Jeff Kelly, as a solo musician. They've just released a new album and it is fantastic. Amazing songs, amazing playing. Lovely band.
That was fun going to Easy Street with you when I was up. Soft Machine- funny, I was just now reading up on the Burroughs novel that inspired the band name.
Fun video and cool store! I have both the Soft Machine album and the Family record. Both are great. Six finds the Softs in their fusion jazz phase with Karl Jenkins leading the band. One live album and one studio album. All the music is continuous so I say Side 1 is a favorite. Lots of swinging groove. Doll’s House is fantastic. Fun, quirky, oddball English psych. Old Song, New Songs and Dear Mr Policeman are faves. Enjoy!
Who says don’t meet your hero’s! Great seeing Mazzy at Easy street! Was still in shock from seeing him when he turned the camera on😂. I picked up the Big Black Racer X album BTW. Take care🥃
Nice store! I like these Whack-a-Mole that youdo at record stores. Though I would have loved to hear your thoughts on that In Flames album... ;) mr. Finglish (Bäd English Recs)
It just freaked me out a bit that there was a Billy Idol poster in the window. I think Grooves in Orbit is considered NRBQ's best album, next to their live album (which I DO own). Get Behind Me Satan is actually my favorite White Stripes album. Trafalgar is my second favorite Bee Gee's album.
You skipped over the LP by Bongwater called Double Bummer in the used bin, go back! Hee hee! They cover the song Rain on that one! Thanks for the tour of your record store, you saved me some money. Cheers!
You hesitated at the Traffic record. I wonder what's in the Backstock..... White Stripes record I have on cd, love it. Nice Soft Machine double album. Everything from Soft Machine is worth buying. Family is also great.
cool video...cool albums....simon and garfunkel 'bookends'...i obviously have it but sadly without the poster...and the bee gees 'trafalgar'...in my opinion, their best album....certainly my favorite of theirs....nice to see inside easy street........gettin' cold and rainy...wet and damp...vinyl isn't final...till it makes it down the ramp........stay well...stay warm...peace always...rocky
I have a double sided LARGE amnesiac/kid a promotional hanging poster (not paper, some plastic type material). Apparently came out of a Seattle record store back in the early 00's
Fun stuff. I actually once had purchased from Easy Street! I don't remember what (I'm in Cologne, Germany). It's years ago. I still have their red star sticker on one of my singles boxes. Judging from that "commy"-star I expected the shop most be something of a tiny anarcho-punk whatsoever cave of a record shop and never something that large. "Music In A Doll's House" is one of those great psychedelic debut albums. That Soft Machine is by one of their late incarnations. Possibly not the most interesting. But if you dig jazz-rock-fusion it might serve you well. If you want to get into significant Soft's stuff, best try their early albums. Even better start with the first and continue with the second. Or if you get across that "Tripple Echo" comp (which includes their fantastic only single) might be a great start.
So that's why you seemed so quiet yesterday. Planning your approach. I just picked up a copy of Armed Forces (but not at ES). Might even do a finds video.
My favorite Soft Machine albums start from 3 to 7. All excellent albums, I prefer to hear this band on cd. Some of they’re records were cut too thin sounding, lots of music packed on each side.
Wow! That looks like an amazing record shop. I don't think we have anything quite as big as that in the UK, and I know that's probably not very big by US standards. I can imagine that NRBQ that are a great live band, but what I've heard from them is rather boring. Really not my thing. I do, however, have a solo album by NRBQ's Al Anderson from 1973 on Vanguard, and that's a lovely record. I sometimes think I'm the only person in the world who didn't like Amy Winehouse. I just can't get over her totally affected American accent. Now, if she sang with her own voice, I might have got on board. Cheers - Hedley
Another place on my list to visit next time we go to Seattle!!
I've never been to Easy Street...we need to go and have breakfast or lunch soon.
Oh that modern sounds Ray Charles… reminded me I have to pick that up. Nice vid
I love this idea, never tried this before.
I like all your vids at home and on the road.

That Iron and Wine is fantastic. I picked up a UK pressing of Soft Machine 7 recently. I really dig their music. I could spend hours in that store!
The Bongos were James Mastro’s band, also of The Health and Happiness Show. They’re good.
I've looked for the Ray Charles record in the wild. Never have found it in good condition. Ordered it new. Thanks for the taking us along.

Easy Street is on my list to visit at some point.
I’ve bought many great albums from Easy Street. The dude that works upstairs is fantastic to help you look for an LP
as usual, great show...thanks
Coincidentally, I'm wearing an Easy Street Records t-shirt today a friend sent me last year.

your taste is my taste! You will love Music in a Doll's House!
You walked by the Norah Jones/Billie Joe duet record... that’s an amazing collaboration. Hope they do another. Great episode.
Hi Mazzy Great show. That's Soft Machine Six album of 1973. Innovative jazz rock at its best ever so querky sometimes
Who says don’t meet your hero’s! Great seeing Mazzy at Easy street! Was still in shock from seeing him when he turned the camera on😂. I picked up the Big Black Racer X album BTW. Take care🥃

Well idol has a new reissue Christmas out in Dark Horse Records 😎
Love Easy Street. BTW, next time you see the Milt Jackson 'Sphere'...grab it. Great performance and killer sonics. One of my favorite Pablos
I have a Mick Softley LP entitled Street Singer from 1971. Never heard of David either.
Dude can you pick up that Street Singer album for me.
You skipped over the LP by Bongwater called Double Bummer in the used bin, go back! Hee hee! They cover the song Rain on that one! Thanks for the tour of your record store, you saved me some money. Cheers!

Yeah I have an OG UK of that Traffic. I was looking at it since it was a full cover and not like the original cover with was clipped two corners.

NRBQ shows made you feel like you were at a carnival.
Hey Mazzy you missed the Plant/Krause record in the new release “P”
My favorite Soft Machine albums start from 3 to 7. All excellent albums, I prefer to hear this band on cd. Some of they’re records were cut too thin sounding, lots of music packed on each side.
Interesting. I own 2 and 7.
You have been getting a lot of rain.

I totally agree with you about NRBQ ✌🏽🤠

Did you have to ask permission to film?
I have no idea 🤷🏻♂️✌🏽
