    You forgot to add check valve to prevent mixing hot water with cold water when it’s opened otherwise your heating system will keep working

    • @PlumbingGy

      No it doesn’t work like that, it’s nothing to do with the heating mate.

    Thanks for the video,
    We have one of these under our bath in a new build, I’m looking to fit a bar mixer shower. Can I just just tee off the hot feed that comes from the mixer valve straight to the shower?

      Hiya the answer to your question is yes,it’s not designed to be a mixer it’s actually called a blender valve take a branch off the mixed hot but bring a cold as well to your shower mixer,as I say it’s not a mixer but rather an anti scald device if it’s very hot it just lets cold in to bring the temperature down on the hot.just make sure it’s near enough to the basin.

    This effectively connects hot/ cold water systems, which I think is a problem. When the spigot is closed and both inlet valves are open and one side of the system loses pressure (such as while being used) the other higher pressure side will have will flow up the opposing line.
    Example why this is a problem--
    My uncle set up one of these for a single valve faucet however one day while my father was using the cold water in a different restroom I was using the toilet and flushed only to notice the water that was filling up the toilet was hot.

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  2 роки тому +2

      Depending on where on the system this was used it may be the fact that the toilet was pl
      Piped up wrong in the first place, in all fairness there should be a pressure reducing valve va installed where needed also personally I've never had an issue with these valves and they are rated very reliable 👍🏻👍🏻

    I had one of these fitted so I could wash my dogs outside in the garden when it's cold. But now it's warm and I need to be able to water the lawn. If I adjust the temperature, can I have just cold water coming out or will it still be mixed to some extent?

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  Рік тому

      Yes you can remove the top cap and use an adjustable spanner to turn fully in one direction (depending on what orientation it’s installed). 👍🏻

    So when its a new valve, and its been installed by a pro but the highest temperature is still not hot enough...I want a scalding bath. How do you remove and replace these...? Will it work if I cut and cap off the cold water. first person to show us all how to do will make a fortune..lol

    I the purpose of the pressure reducing valve in this scenario to basically serve as a check valve and to keep the hot water out of the cold tap?

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  4 роки тому

      Not at all I'm afraid the purpose of the valve is to reduce the temperature mixture on delivery to the hot tap 😁👍🏻

      The purpose of the pressure reducing valve before the mixing valve?

    • @MrJackyJee
      @MrJackyJee 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah good question.
      I’m looking to install a mixing valve with mains pressure cold and a single 1.5 bar pumped hot.
      So I’m thinking of installing a pressure reducing valve on the cold and set it to 1.5 bar. Hopefully this will balance the two and will work fine. Never tried it before.

    • @MrJackyJee
      @MrJackyJee 3 роки тому

      Update.
      Works perfectly fine.

    When fitting a single impeller shower pump (low hot water pressure) , do you fit it after the mixer or before the mixer on the hot supply ?

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  6 років тому

      Hi there, generally speaking in my experience it would be fitted after the pump from the hot water circuit. However, there is always that chance it my be different, so with that in mind I would ALWAYS check the manufactures instructions either what is provided with the pump or research the model online.
      It's good practice to check the instructions even someone with my experience, I hope this helps guys.

    I get about 9 minutes of hot water from my shower and then it goes cold/lukewarm, could that be an issue with the mixing valve?

  • @step7steveX

    • @PlumbingGy

I was planning on putting the valve underneath my sink inside the house and use a copper flange to take the water to the outside.. Hi, thanks for this video! I was trying to understand if a valve like this can be useful in a system where the hot water input varies hugely (say 40 degrees one day and 80 another) but I'm guessing these just deliver a ratio of hot to cold based on the setting, rather than adapting to the temperature coming in. Thanks for the help.

    Hi my thermostatic valves are limiting hot water how do I amend this or will I have to call in a plumber.

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  3 роки тому

      If the valves are sticking in position, I would recommend a new valve. Many plumbers would say gently tap with a hammer. do not do this! In some the pin is very fragile and can spring out spraying water all over the shop. 👍🏻
