I have to note that these laws are different from state to state. I worked as a child protective investigator for several years in Florida and foster parents here really had no legal standing until a petition for termination of parental rights was filed
@@katieakin9397 no legal standing to keep reunification with parents from going forward and I had to contact whatever tribal governance body was in place if a parent was a legal member of a tribe.
I know that this happened... I'm sure you know that some, or more , of the people who fostered care were told lies & truly thought they were giving a child or children a better life. It's so wrong how certain leaders would try to turn us against one another...Sad.
Well good thing those things did not come into fruition that you spoke about in this video, with S.C. upholding ICWA. Anywho, thanks Teach...my bad. Miigwech ingekinoo'amaaged "Zhooniyawaabik-Waagoshish" indizhinikaazhigooyan. 🤣🤣. Gigikendaan goji'inaan.
What if a non native parent wins sole custody of a child who has native blood? Can that parent get help for that child from Indian tribes? Also, dos non native parent have ritht to get role# and whatever else the child tribe is enrolled in?
The child’s enrollment is governed by the eligibility requirements of the tribe not the race of a parent or who has custody. A nonnative parent can still do the paperwork to get their kid enrolled. And if the tribe pays benefits to a kid they would not be prohibited by who has custody.
@anton.treuer can the other parent get in trouble if they are lying on paperwork that they have the child to use to get funds, help ect from Indian tribe? Sorry last question
The government brainwashed me as a child to think many bad events in my life was why my mother lost custody of all bakers dozen of us Ojibwa family last 4 of born in California 😢
@@anton.treuerDo not remember name of Native author sharing her experience. Married the love of her life at 13 and had 3 children with him. He was a fisherman and took the eldest sons with. Lake Superior or UP MI? Idr. They never came home. Her youngest was a girl toddler. She waited and waited. I think 3 wks later CPS showed up and took the daughter and adopted her out never seeing her again. She remarried several yrs later and even became a lawyer and had two daughters with that husband who divorced her because she would not give up her Native religion. Maybe you know who she is?
@@anton.treuerName of book has Sweetgrass in it. I gave the book to a nice christian lady as I try to share Native problems. Idk how she is or where they are now after leaving their restaurant.
Thanks for shedding light on the magnitude of this sad affair! Greetings from 🇩🇪
Dear Anton, Thank You, thank you so much for educating me on this issue. I am an elder woman, and love what and how you inform and teach. Shy
ChiiMiigwitch for the clear presentation of the history and reasons why many of us are in support of the Indian Child Welfare Act.
Well presented and so informative! Thank you!❤

I should have kept listening before commenting. I was in the first 3 minutes of video. Sorry.
Our foster head of household sexually abused my twin sister and he wasn’t reprimanded for it for being head of household bread winner
That sounds like a criminal act. There is no statute of limitations for crimes against children.
