  • We are in the busiest part of our season of restorations currently and trying to continue to put out content for the channel. Unfortunately that means that we don't have the time to create in depth content constantly. This is a before and after video of a 1999 Crest III, 22' by 8.5' wide pontoon. Fantastic! I had a feeling you folks were getting busy, although Banks doesn't look very busy! That boat looked like it was in great shape to begin with, love the way the the lights were molded up into the corners, anyway I'm sure they'll be thrilled. My Sylvan is a 99, I have an original 25hp Bigfoot, that one looks similar, I'm actually looking for a 40, mine is an 18 footer so I think that would be adequate, plus they're just SO expensive. Anyway good luck, glad to know you're busy!

      The boat was really well cared for, but still starting to show its age. Seams were letting go, couple soft spots in the floor, and a layout that wasn’t great for swimming and such. They were ready to make it their own!!
      The whole marine industry saw price hikes like no other over the last 4 years, not that outboards weren’t expensive to begin with! However, lots of 40/50/60 four strokes being swapped out on pontoons the last couple years as folks want a little more speed. Pretty soon I think there’ll be a healthy market of good EFI four strokes used as they’ve been to go to for the last 10-20 years. Anything under 500 hours should be good to go for another 500+ from any of the four stroke manufacturers!

      I’ve reached out to them as they’re a local Michigan company, but apparently they have no interest in collaborating with me! None of my customers have requested one specifically so we haven’t had our hands on one yet.

      Their stuff is very pricey…seems quality, but sometimes you look at the price and the materials being used and realize the mark up is likely a bit in the aggressive side. But hey, tons of people and boat companies are buying them!

      @tomspontoons Bummer! Yeah, as much as I want one, without seeing it in person it's hard to put out that cash.
      Seems like their orriginal design is exclusive for manufacturers... driving the consumer model price high.

      @@tomspontoons Have you seen any other premium ladders. The one on my 2019 crest is fine, but there seems to be a large gap in the market between that and the Lillipad.

    Crests are built like tanks! Always worth rebuilding unless the toons are damaged beyond repair.

      They really are a well built boat. I’m still yet to come across a boat manufacturer that builds them as sturdy as I would if I could build one from scratch! I guess I’ll keep restoring them and improving their construction along the way to make them last even longer.

    Any recommendations for repairs to the floor after removing something? Lets say there is an old anchor winch that a person wants to remove. Currently carpet flooring. Any process for patching the holes or anything like that?

    • @tomspontoons
      @tomspontoons  3 місяці тому +1

      Not a whole lot that can be done other than cover plates of aluminum or marine plastics. With vinyl there are a lot of silicone color options that’ll match pretty closely to close up the holes and help make it a little prettier.

    Just curious since I didn't catch it in the video....are those the ivory colored seats? I was trying to find them in your videos to get a real life look at them vs. seeing the pictures on Pontoon Stuffs site. Thanks!

    • @tomspontoons
      @tomspontoons  2 місяці тому

      Yes, these are the ivory, tan, and navy premium seats. Super sharp look being able to tie some of the color schemes into the railings and breaks up the solid tan floors.

      @@tomspontoons awesome thank you! They look lighter in your video than they do on the website and I think that's what I am gonna go with on my boat.

      @@JeremyWaite They are definitely a pretty light color, but definitely easier to keep clean than the solid white based. Just a wet rag with a little dish soap and they'll clean right up from scuffs and dirt.

    Tom, on a 24’ Crest with a 90 hp outboard that I’m using as the base for my houseboat build, can you suggest a propeller? I’m looking for something that’ll give me fuel economy rather than speed and some power for the times when I might encounter rougher water.
    And, can you suggest a Canadian source for a centre pontoon? I’ve found lots of US sources but in Canada, nada.

    • @tomspontoons
      @tomspontoons  3 місяці тому +1

      I would imagine you'll be running an 11" pitch propeller on that house boat. Weight and drag are the big factors, and RPM at wide open throttle is the only way to know if you're maximizing performance, fuel economy, and the health of the motor to be able to rev out as it's supposed to at higher throttle.
      I have not encountered any sources for center pontoons in Canada yet. I've had a couple of people reach out who used the Tri Hull LLC guys in Indiana. Those folks drove down from Canada to get the pontoons. Worth it if you're close by the border, but might not work for most others if it's too far of a drive.

      @luisaraujo4708 3 місяці тому +1

      @@tomspontoons, as always you’re a lifesaver. I’ll give the folks in Indiana a shout. Duty at the border can’t be helped, guess. Maybe I can snag a trailer while I’m at it. hehehe

    What’s your thoughts on using EVA foam decking because I have white flooring in my Godfrey

    • @tomspontoons
      @tomspontoons  3 місяці тому

      I have seen EVA foam flooring on a pontoon and it was peeling at all of the seams. Because it's in 4x8 sheets typically you'll have a handful of seams and the expansion and contraction of the wood deck leads to the foam letting go. If you were installing it on an aluminum deck or composite deck then it might work. I just prefer the one-piece woven vinyl and its durability for dogs running around, coolers and wakeboards being dragged across it, etc.

    • @lesson2us
      @lesson2us 3 місяці тому +1

      @@tomspontoonsthanks for the insight because I didn’t think about the expansion of the wood itself, hints the reason I don’t see many people discussing that option. Thanks

    • @tomspontoons
      @tomspontoons  3 місяці тому

      @@lesson2us I think that once it’s available in full sheets it bwill be used by boat manufacturers on top of aluminum or composite decks, but hard to say!
