I remember hearing this theme for the first time when the movie was televised. I was blown away by it then, and still am. Henry Mancini put it best about Goldsmith as a composer, "he scares the hell out of us.". That he does.
So extraordinary to think that the man who composed this great music is the exact same man who composed the down-home theme of the "Waltons," the percussive primal music of "Planet of the Apes," the way out theme of "The Twilight Zone," and the militaristic soundtrack to "Patton." Is there anything Goldsmith could not do? My goodness. I miss him so much. But we will always have his music.
Read in some movie trivia that Peter Hyams, the director, honestly thought OJ was set for making more movies after this one was done. Maybe, as he wasn't bad in the Naked Gun
@Bobby Brady I didn't go looking for anything but entertainment. Watching this movie, all I got was great music scoring a clumsy story full of actors who deserved a better script.
@Bobby Brady It's nice that you've learned a few logical-argument words. That you call "gaslight" a "made up term" [sic] suggests my initial opinion of you was spot-on. I expressed an opinion about this movie (which Rotten Tomatoes, for one, mostly agrees with), then you popped up, telling me I'd watched it incorrectly. I responded in kind. But naturally, after you led with the first attempted insult, yours is the only autonomy you'll acknowledge. Why did you feel a need to reply to me in the first place? Like many other great soundtrack composers, Goldsmith did some amazing work for a lot of movies that didn't deserve his level of creativity. And I'm pretty certain he'd agree.
I saw this movie in the movies and it's an excellent checkmate to the Apollo show, it's a question of whether we really went to the moon ... and the theme of the song inspires the conspiracy ... excellent.
I was teaching school in Bryan, TX when the movie came out and one of my students from 4th period came and told me about the movie, about how good it was. I got the LP shortly thereafter and loved the score. I also got a couple more Goldsmiths around that time and had been a fan of his for many years by then. I loved the score and especially the "Breakout" cue which is pieced together on the re-recording LP. That WBs LP had great sound though.
Yes this is second best to COMA, also avaiable on youtube. Also check out "The Wild Rovers" Western Soundtrack (unfortunately browsing the web will first vormit irish music all over you, that is good too, but makes searching a hell!)
The book to the movie Capricorn one was different. A woman captain was saved she was originally from the navy put in space program she was to be the first woman on mars she was married with a son
Really great sound quality and arrangement. I don't recall hearing the percussion stand out in the movie in the theater. Quite nice arrangement though. :) Thanks of sharing. Great audio quality.
@UFOSPACE1999 Horner's 'Futile Escape' in Aliens has a remarkably similar motif to Goldsmith's Capricorn One and I've heard that Horner may have also used something similar in Titanic.
I own James brolins jump suit from this movie,he must have been letting off real egg farts during filming as they still reek. I had the chance to meet Jim few years back,so I brought this screen used wardrobe, when I explained to him that this was the hero jump suit he wore I asked him did he ever catch his taint in the zipper when putting it on.Jim just stared into the middle distance and walked off, still to this day I don't know what I did,any ideas?
This is still by far, one of the greatest opening cues ever!!!!There will NEVER BE ANOTHER JERRY GOLDSMITH!!!
Absolutely YES ...!👍
Something strange happened on the way to Mars ... can't believe it has been almost 45 years ago, saw this as a teenager!
I remember hearing this theme for the first time when the movie was televised. I was blown away by it then, and still am. Henry Mancini put it best about Goldsmith as a composer, "he scares the hell out of us.". That he does.
Jerry Goldsmith is the best thiller music composer of the movie history!
Balázs l don't disagree but l'd have to put John Williams up there to 😊
Goldsmith also did Basic Instinct, LA Confidential, etc. Pretty sure Goldsmith had the most range as a thriller composer in movie history.
@@cr7sensation: Goldsmith was so much more thoughtful a *scorer*, though. Historically, only Herrmann is in Jerry's league.

r.i.p mr jerry and tanks for all beautiful soundtrack
The best conspiracy movie ever. The tension never lets up and becomes unbearable at the end.
Spartaculus Jones The Parallax View staring Warren Beaty is terrific. Check out The Incredible Montage on UA-cam .
A great soundtrack to a fantastic movie that was ahead of its time.
Definitely my favorite Conspiracy thriller of all time. I about broke the arms off the theater seat a few times when I first saw it.
OJ did it. Telly was the the best part.
Read in some movie trivia that Peter Hyams, the director, honestly thought OJ was set for making more movies after this one was done. Maybe, as he wasn't bad in the Naked Gun
samsonguy10k Those movies were 10 years apart. He was a hot commodity in the 70s. By the 80s... meh.
wingitprod Well, he became a hot commodity of another kind in the 90's. Guess he is a one hit a decade wonder boy.
samsonguy10k :-D
THIS... IS... UNREAL! Thank you Jerry, I am your greatest fan and R.I.P. my great hero :(
I often use this music to make mundane things seem epic. Try getting out of bed and brushing your teeth in the morning to this, you won’t look back.
This score, like many of Goldsmith's, was a lot more well-thought-out than the movie it was made for.
@Bobby Brady I didn't go looking for anything but entertainment. Watching this movie, all I got was great music scoring a clumsy story full of actors who deserved a better script.
@Bobby Brady Thanks, Bobby! But I left an excellent comment. Rather than looking for faults, you should have just enjoyed it.
@Bobby Brady Nice try, but your taste in 1970s filmmaking is still deficient. Thanks for trying to gaslight me, though.

great Suite for a geat movie R.I.P. Jerry Goldsmith
Epic unparalleled brilliance by the great Maestro!

it was so good to hear kays theme again so wonderful......
i love jerry music goldsmith
Fabulous!!! ☺

Basil Poledouris was obviously heavily inspired by Jerry Goldsmith's scores to both this movie and The Wind and the Lion when scoring Conan
Bedtime Story's theme is good, but this version of Kay's theme is awesome. Jerry Goldsmith was, and always will be, a great composer.
fabuleux jerry goldsmith
JERRY GOLDSMITH MAY BE TOO INTENSE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN.
A classic!!!
No word s my fann Awesom

The finale of this film, and Jerry’s music, had people standing and cheering in the theater. I know...I was there.
The book to the movie Capricorn one was different. A woman captain was saved she was originally from the navy put in space program she was to be the first woman on mars she was married with a son
Ends with one of the best aerial chase scenes in cinematic history. Obviously Mission: Impossible - Fallout takes number one spot now though.
And they say Jerry Goldsmith ripped of Basil Poledouris' Anvil of Crom.
when the asked OJ Simpson if he wanted to try acting and be in this movie...
he said "sure, I'll take a stab at it"
You all need is "Commander" The lust American soldier (Craig Alan)
It resembles Jerry Goldsmith's other 1978 score for The Swarm.
100 thumbs up with mine!
Really great sound quality and arrangement. I don't recall hearing the percussion stand out in the movie in the theater. Quite nice arrangement though. :) Thanks of sharing. Great audio quality.
Guy was a genius

With Josh Brolin's father.
