QUICK EXPLANATION OF KOREAN AGE: You're considered one when you're born, so everyone is a year older in their Korean age. And the New Year's is just a traditional thing, so it's not like everyone's birthday is celebrated on New Year's, it's just to say you're a year older than last, but you still celebrate your birthday on your actual birthday and your age doesn't change from New Year's. So basically age is about the year you were born, not the specific date. If you want to know your Korean age, you do the current year - the year you were born + 1. Some people might be 2 years older because their birthday has not happened yet this year and your age is set on New Year's (which is this Friday!) So I'm 21, but in Korean age am considered 23 after New Year's, but when I turn 22 in November, my Korean age still stays 23 because it's still the same year.
I only found that out a couple days ago and thought it was so cool! It means that instead of being 16 I’d actually be 18 in Korean age which is crazy 😅
Thats actually interesting !!!! Ive always wondered why we dont count the 9 months pre birth as part of our age !!! In a way Koreans count it I guess !!!
Thanks for explaining this how cool. My mom actually tried to explain why we should be aged this way years ago because she said we already lived before birth. Makes sense to me
I always do that with these videos too lol Also with videos from THIS WITH THEM ( aka In The Kitchen With Kate ) and GOOD MYTHICAL MORNING lol . Apparently my videos make people hungry too !!! LOL
Before you write off Korean rice cake anything, try them at a Korean restaurant. I recommend tteokboki (spicy rice cakes). Super chewy and tasty. Anything besides ramen in an instant soup cup is extra sketchy texture-wise.
Ive been wanting to try thobokki for years but due to radation therapy I just can't do spice of ant sorts yet but trader joe had tge rice cakes for making it frozen! I also saw that it is normal/okay to try them with a cheese sauce or rose sauce so it doesn't have to be in strictly hot sauce. I do have deoenjang (fermented soybean paste its like a slightly funky miso paste I love it ) I might try using that and some cream and seaweed to make a rice cake dish. But check at trader joes they had the spicy version too. Ive had the Korean seaweed soup that new mothers have. It was made with beef knuckles by a Korean friend for my birthday and I admit its got a bit of a texture to ut but I love seaweeds of all types and really enjoyed it.
These cups of soups you’re getting changes the texture of how they’re actually made from home....you need to find a Korean restaurant and get some of these soups to go, I think you’d actually like them!
I laughed so hard. The soups weren’t prepared properly so the texture would be off. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 If you eat the version that is homemade the texture will be totally different. Glad you liked the snacks though. Milkis is also my American fiancé’s fave along with aloe juice.
Our local grocery store carries milkis in the international aisle but only huge bottles !!!! id love to try it and also do a video on it !!!! In iran we have a carbonated yogurt drink called doogh but thats salty and savory !!!1
Have you ever thought about Men Try using manual wheelchairs? It's eye opening for people using the chair. And as a wheelchair user myself it's fun to watch people struggle with a fraction of what I go through
My uncle was in a chair most of his life. I have a pet peeve about ambulatory people parking their SUVs in handicapped spots and walking into the building. My dad had emphysema and cancer and, because of his brother, Never parked there.
I agree I’m in a electric wheelchair. They have to do 24 hrs. Even try to get in and out of bed. Transferring. So they can get to know what us wheelies do.
Apple or other fruit flavored milkis are literally the best, also your rice cakes seemed like it wasn't soaked enough, like maybe you were supposed to cook it longer/ let it sit, usually its softer
I absolutely love you guys you crack me up every time I watch ur videos. I started laughing so hard when cam said it tastes like someone already ate it & spit it in there (seaweed soup)
Korean really is easy to learn because the sounds never change, unlike English, where there are 50,000 ways to say the letter "a" 😂 I learned how to read korean in literally 30 minutes I'm not even kidding. Each character is pronounced the exact same way every time! I'm also so happy to see you enjoying some of Korea's most iconic snack foods 😊😊😊😊
Screaming at the TV in Texan... "It's horchata! The "H" is silent!! It's like saying the "j" in jalapenos!" Nails on a chalk board... Laughin. Still love y'all.
I literally tried the milki’s carbonated milk yesterday and thought the exact freaking thing. I was so happy when you said that. I was a little scared to try it but it was really really good and 100% tastes like day old sprite.
For those wondering, the rice cakes are what foreigners know as mochi. They've got a dense, chewy sort of texture. Westerners are not used to the texture so it's often off putting, but they're some of my favorite parts of Korean cuisine. It's difficult to judge those two soups in this video because they're not fresh, but both of those soups are very, very good when they don't come in a cardboard bowl :P Also, I see some explanations for the Korean age, but it's a difficult thing to explain so I wanted to be a little more clear for anyone who's still confused. If you're born the last day of December, you're considered 1 year old (because they count the entire pregnancy as life and just sort of round up.) Then, on the new year, EVERYONE ages up. So you would then immediately turn 2. You would stay 2 the entire year, even on your birthday (which you celebrate like normal) and then on the next New Year, you would turn 3. It's just tradition. So, depending on what part of the year you're born in, your Korean age is 1-2 years older than your international age. When I was living in Korea I was teaching Korean 5 year olds which means that they were 3-4 years old. Throughout the year the kids would have their birthdays, which we would celebrate as normal, but they were still considered 5 the entire year because they don't age up until the New Year. The Korean alphabet, Hangul, has a softer "A" sound than in American English. Imagine saying the German name Hans. Han-Guel. Lastly, the word you couldn't pronounce (jjimjilbang) is like this: Jim (the man's name) Jill (the woman's name) and Bang. Bang is a little harder to pronounce, but imagine saying the word "Bong" with the "O" sounding slightly more like an "A." Or, if you say "Ot" it would sound similar to the sound the "O" makes there.
I actually would have agreed but curiosity got the better of me and I goggled it. It's sliced rice cake. Its a thing. you can buy them in cylinder shapes are already sliced!!!
I love the honey twist snack!! And omg banana milk*-* I love rice cake soup!! You cooked it wrong or not long enough. Go get it at a Korean restaurant. That stuff is amazing!!
Thank you so much guys,I was having a sad and depressed morning, I knew that if I watched ur video that I would laugh and I did. Thank you again so much😁👍
If you thought this was weird you should try bondaegi (boiled or fried larvae). It's awful but in korea they sell it as a snack on the street and many people love it.
So technically in Korean when your mom carries you for 9 months when you're born you're considered 9 months old, Because you've been inside the belly for 9 months ,so technically your 9 months when you're born in Korea. So that's why on the New Year they have the birthday and you're a year old because it's only 3 months away. Because 9 months and 3 months technically you're considered a year old In korean.
i love being a kpop stan and finding your guys channel about a month ago, not knowing this video existed, and then finding out that you guys know blackpink and bts and you even started singing HYLT 😂😂😂😂
If you don't already, you should watch Korean Englishman/ Jolly with Josh and Olly. They eat allot of Korean foods and watching Olly learn Korean is adorable. I think you would be a good Collab with them.
The rice cakes of the soup were undercooked. They should be soft and chewy. And they are tasteless cause they are made out of rice flour. . Also the seaweed soup is nor normally cooked with the rice in it. You eat the rice as a side with the soup... For the korean age thing.. koreans consider that the moment you are born you are 1 year old cause they consider your time in the uterus(even thou is not 1 year) And then when the year changes everyone automatically gets 1 year older.. this is more to make it easier for them to know if you are of same age, cause its a very hierarchical society where age difference means levels of respect (you cannot be "friends" with someone older or younger than you, even if you are friends by our western standards the age difference here make you address them different calling them older brother/sister or younger brother/sister)... so if you were born in the same year as someone else, even if your bday hasn't passed you are the same age... so yeah basically if you were born 31st of December you are 1 year old and the 1st of January you are 2 years old.. same as everyone that was born same year as you.
The honey butter chip my mother loves them. she gets them every time we go to the Korean market. Also, she has Milkis & Soju in the fridge right now... she loves it.
I just love to see your Faces when you try something that has a weird textur and a flavor that you don’t like and can’t say what it is 😆😂 that was some weird food but also some of it looked really delicious 👍🏻👏🏻
I recommend watching the Korean Englishman channel on UA-cam. Josh is amazing at introducing the Korean culture to people. 오늘은 여기까지 (that’s all for today) is how he ends all his videos n its catchy af lol. Your Utah tastebuds need some expanding that’s for sure😂
You should get one of those translater gadgets. They have one that translates 40 languages. And you can do your best to say the words then listen and see how close you were.
Next time you go to Anaheim to Disneyland, go over to Buena Park and have some Korean BBQ. It's amazing. Basically you grill your food at your table. Pork belly and brisket is the best.
Lol the rice cakes definitely didn’t hydrate completely. You’re better off trying the kits that come in freezer & refrigerated aisles at larger Asian grocery stores. Costco even has some now too! Also, can you guys not call any other food, you’re not used to, “weird?” I love y’all but it’s pretty offensive.
So that last thing you tried which was the rice soup or whatever when you snapped it in half that kind of reminded me of water chestnuts water chestnuts look around like that and they snap in half
The only good Moon Pie is the vanilla flavored ones, sooooo delicious. My favorite Korean treat is some sticky rice & kimchi. I also love to get the seaweed wraps & wrap it around a ball of rice. My best friend when I was a freshman & then a sophomore in high school was Korean and I always loved eating dinner at her house.
Wait, that y’all know kpop is killing me. Yesssssss. As a legit kpop multistan I am loving this. He owns his own music label, P Nation, where many great artists like Jessi have a home.
This is great! I’ve been trying to learn some Korean and will hopefully be going to Korea in the summer! Since I’m also in Utah, do any of you guys know some good Korean markets or restaurants?

Yep. I ate lunch with them👍
Rice cakes were undercooked. They shouldn’t snap in half.
Have you ever had that soup ?
Agree, they should be soft and chewy! And tasteless lol. I love cooking them in soups or tteokboki
@@crazyliv I love me some tteokboki!

Before you write off Korean rice cake anything, try them at a Korean restaurant. I recommend tteokboki (spicy rice cakes). Super chewy and tasty. Anything besides ramen in an instant soup cup is extra sketchy texture-wise.
I was going to say something similar. Korean rice cakes are delish when made properly. I feel like the soup they had, it didn't hydrate properly
Yes. First foods I've tried. I add a slice of velveeta to cut some of the heat of some spicier tteokboki.
