Sad story about what happened to Hope Cooke and Sikkim. India is needlessly aggresive with its neighbors. Let's hope Sikkim becomes independent once again. India was beaten in 1962 by China and has fought Pakistan twice and doesn't get along with any country on its borders.
@jdewitt77, India fought off jihadis and then imperialists for about a thousand years together. Lets see how you would feel after living under a siege for that long.
India's major quantum of foreign aid is given to neighbouring countries. According to India's budget in 2021-22, its direct overseas aid stood at ₹18,154 crore (US$2.3 billion). That apart, India also extended a direct line of credit worth $30.66 billion to several foreign countries for developmental projects.
Nepal was the largest recipient of Indian aid. Nepal and Bhutan were the first countries to receive aid from India. In 1958, India committed to providing $100 million multi-year grants to Nepal and also extended a ₹20 crore (equivalent to ₹19 billion or US$240 million in 2023) loan to Myanmar.
India today announced Rs 300 crore annual budgetary financial assistance to Bangladesh in the coming 2022-23 (April-March) financial year, up from Rs 200 crore in the outgoing fiscal 2021-22
Sikkim was a neighbor of China for hundreds of years. Historically it has enjoyed good relations with China. In the eighteenth century it was overran by the Gorkhas at one time. The Sikkim king fled the country and asked China for help. China at that time was the Qing dynasty and was at the zenith of its power. The then Qianlong emperor dispatched an expedition force to repel the Gorkhas and restored Sikkim's sovereignty and independence. Sikkim was left unmolested until it was gobbled up by India (a country that historically does not exist and only came into existence as a result of the colonist relinquishing its power to its subjugated population, much like South Africa) in 1975.
WoW. VERY Informative. Thank you.
I'm glad you like this video.
Sikkim was a former Buddhist Kingdom but now part of India. It is located northeast part of India. It is in between Nepal and Kingdom of Bhutan.
Thank you for the navigation I am in my car rn
It's snow leopards, not snow lions. Glad that Hope Cooke rebuilt her life after leaving Sikkim.
