Bette's frail cancer ridden body can barely contain her massive spirit and what great elocution in her voice. And Kathryn is still devoted to Bette's legacy.
Bette talks about Dark Victory, Now Voyager, and Baby Jane, true classics, if you haven't seen them you missing a great chapter in movie history, what an actress.
She was a classy and intimidating woman...i've never seen anyone make Dave Letterman nervous....she must have been a force of nature. And Joan adored her...such respectful interview.
Dear God how i miss this womans talent, ability, and screen presence. When she mentioned Dark Victory, i burst into tears. What a lasting impression her acting ability has made on my life. I will gladly binge watch her movies, interviews, tv shows, at the drop of a hat. Now Voyager was my 1st introduction into my completely healthy addiction to Bette Davis. That movie made me feel every emotion possible. She was so powerful on the screen.
Whenever I get into a big Bette Davis mood, watching all of her interviews and appearances, I'm happy to see this one because she just seems to be in such good spirits! It's comforting as these were her final years. ❤️
I see her old movies she was so beautiful and one of my favorite actresses. I loved her Victorian movies and she had a pretty figure and large blue eyes
Bless Bette's heart, she's still at it. I admire her determination to go on. Between the major stroke in 1983 and her death, she had several more strokes but certainly none as severe as the one in '83. In '85 she did a follow up interview with David Hartman and she didn't look nearly this bad. I feel certain the reason for her downward spiral was B.D.'s book. It devastated her and she was never the same after B.D. broke her heart.
I agree..bette davis was heartbroken over that book her daughter wrote. She died 4 years after book and I believe bette died from a broken heart. Her daughter continues to badmouth her mom and appears as a bitter angry unloving women.
BD was born in 1949 which makes her 72 this year. Hope her kids treat her better in her later years than she did her mother. I was surprised she not only mentioned her but also said her name. In her BW interview she couldn't discuss her.
@@patbest7057 - BD is a bad joke!! Her husband is dead & she wrote that book because her - her husband needed $$$ & she received an advance of $50,000 it was said. BD was an embarrassment as a daughter - Better deserved a much better daughter. Thank God that Bette's Personal Assistant stood by her side to the end of her life. 🌹Bette was the Greatest Actress in Cinema History. 🎬
wow i just watched an interview with her from 1980 and in the 7 years that passed to this, she's aged 20 years. so sad that she suffered from so much ill health in the end
When someone approaches the age of 75, their health can deteriorate drastically in a really short period of time. Davis was a heavy smoker with a type A personality.
@CJReviewz That is Kathryn Sermak, Bette's secretary and personal assistant who was a great help to Bette in her final years. I love how the girl never got a word in, just sat there looking pretty!
What wonderful interview. Bette Davis sharp as a tack, funny & engaging / Joan, a wonderful person & comedian - RIP, I am sure you’re both laughing your asses off wherever you are❤️❤️❤️
Very good humble interview by Joan. Stays out of the way and just prompts, let's Bette tell the stories. Notice how she stands for Davis. Respect. Very classy.. Carson didnt do that.
A very wild and Amazing actress who will always be a Top of the line Performer in my book may she R.I.P forever she is always in her fans memories and Hearts forever 🥰
fabulous interview--Bette is divine and Joan-a great interviewer--much better than Carson--aint so bad herself--- Can't believe she's gone! Love 'em both.
Joan you are wonderful, with Ms. Betty Davis, so fabulous, gracious, Joan you are so very missed ❤ 😢 ♥ 💖 💕 a very special lady and you were always wonderful, you were the Top at treating everyone as they might have been family, ms.B.D. also a kind gracious lady 💞💜💞
She was sharp as a tack, but she was mistaken about Marlene Dietrich being covered in gold paint for "The Garden of Allah." That movie had been made in 1936, and the Hollywood Canteen was during the war; it was 1944's "Kismet" in which Dietrich was gilded head to toe.
I read it, it's wonderful. Dear Kathryn was so good to our Bette in her later years. Kathryn also wrote about her time with Miss D in a human way but also in a way that doesn't defame Miss D's star status. I highly recommend it.
Kath really loved Bette as a person and it was so fortunate for Bette to have "found" her as a companion/secretary/friend & confidante. In her book, she respected Davis completely and never once "dissed" her
Marilyn Monroe lived in many apartment building in Sherman. Once Las Vegas was built up of course people went there instead of Sherman. Gay people make Sherman an area they could live safely. The night clubs once occupied by stars was now a place gay men went to meet and congregate. The name was changed to West Hollywood in the 60's to capitalize on the popularity of Hollywood. Bette Davis lived in a grand building near Sunset on Crescent Heights. The building is still there.
I've never understood what was so great about that Mae West. She came across as a Madam and acted like every man should worship her. She was never good looking and she wasn't funny. But Bette was taken in by her.
She would have been fun to know. She lived out her life here in West Hollywood I am told. This area use to be where stars stayed while filming movies. It wasn't West Hollywood back then it was called Sherman, an unincporporated area of Los Angeles. Gambling was illegal but since Sherman was not part of LA county they could skirt around the law. Century City back then was 20th Century Fox studios. All the stars brought their families with them to live in Sherman since they worked nearby.
“Beyond the Forest” is underestimated. She was bad, bad, bad, and it took a Great Actress to do that role. “The Corn is Green” is ruined for any other Actress to attempt to do a better “Miss Moffat”. I could go on.
Betty sounds very, very much like singer Nina Simone !!! Same tone, inflection, tempo, and cadence. Listen First listen to a Betty Davis interview. Then listen to Nina Simone. Whilst you are listening , close your eyes and imagine its Betty talking. When u do that, you will at different points in time forget which person you are listening to.
The balance between intimidation and warmness she exuded was immaculate.
Bette's frail cancer ridden body can barely contain her massive spirit and what great elocution in her voice. And Kathryn is still devoted to Bette's legacy.

How did we go from this to what we are now? Its like we are on a different planet now.
@Sebastion Bergdorf Yes we know.
I often ponder this same thing. People we need to do something ASAP!
Now now....why does every generation of parents say that about the current one. You need to keep an open mind to see how that's not really true.
Yep. Cell phones, computer, internet... that change all !! Really.
That, my friend, is the most profound and excellent statement ! Especially now in 2020 !
What a classy lady and a fantastic actress
Having survived a stroke, Ms. Davis did quite well with her speech. And Joan Rivers looked very nice here. 8/2018
Bette talks about Dark Victory, Now Voyager, and Baby Jane, true classics, if you haven't seen them you missing a great chapter in movie history, what an actress.
My favorite is "All About Eve".
She was a classy and intimidating woman...i've never seen anyone make Dave Letterman nervous....she must have been a force of nature. And Joan adored her...such respectful interview.
Simple whether young? Old? Famous? or anonymous Dave Letterman loved her, Bette Davis
One irresistible Human being!
Amazing, classy, elegant actress, like no other. Brava Bette👏👏
One of Hollywood's greatest actresses, ever

Bette, Bette, Bette - What can I say that hasn't been said - JUST THE GREATEST - THE QUEEN OF THEM ALL! Joan to her credit here really gets it.
I see her old movies she was so beautiful and one of my favorite actresses. I loved her Victorian movies and she had a pretty figure and large blue eyes
How I wish Bette had done hours of chat about her career, movies and stars.
Two class acts that are sadly no longer with us. Their legacies live on 💖
One hell of an actress and woman. Miss her acting so much.
"Melissa says that every morning!" Joan even had the great Bette Davis howling from that gag line!
Miss Davis lived in a grand building on Havenhusrt. Kathryn was devoted to her and a lovely, friendly, charming person and still is.

The greatest actress ever, RIP Bette !
Not to be cliche, but Betty Davis we love you. 🤩
It's a joy to hear Bette laugh at 9:47. ❤️❤️❤️
I love how straightforward she was. Fame and wealth did not addle her mind as it does so many.
So feisty and tough... What a woman she was so interesting... I adore her films...
Bette Davis, love her and her movies. Those who criticise her are just whimps. "No guts, no glory." Bette Davis
I dislike the phrase, but this is what a star is.
Talented, smart, witty, sassy, attractive, determined and incredibly hard working...
Her memory and energy is unmatchable!
Cudos to Joan for a very well done interview with Bette. Two wonderful trail blazers, in their respective fields. Thank you for posting.
So great and yet so sad to see her in such ill health. What a legend.
She was the movie queen of her era. Soooo many great movies. Loved her then and she still has a special place in my heart.
Why didn't I live in that era? When actors and films were awesome... :(

can't believe Joan is gone--what a talent--two stars here---they both were strong women.
She was rightfully right to be proud of co-creating the Hollywood Canteen with John Garfield
Class. Pure class.
My alltime favorite. RIP.
Still amazing here.
A great actress and lady.
What a wonderful interview. And the little re-cap on Whales of August too; such a treat. Thanks.

I think she just forgot (she HAD just had a stroke, after all).
"What a wild Democrat that I was..." Love. x
Now that's an actress
Hollywood would never done anything like this for our military.

Was this before her Daughter said she was the worst Mother ever?..I would do said the only thing I regret heaving That Daughter..
Garden of Allah was filmed 5 years before the Hollywood canteen began
She got the look of Dietrich right but the film was Kismet
Joan Rivers had a 'mouth' on her about/towards people except for Bette Davis. Even Joan Rivers knew not to try an Aries woman! LOL....
