My very first car was a Morris 1100, back in the 1970's. She was my pride and joy. Seeing this Pathe Video brings back fond memories. Thanx for sharing!

My first car was a 63 Morris 1100 bought in 1974 in Pretoria, South Africa for R225 cash... Loved it!

I was born years later (1987) but always liked these BL and similar cars. I find them really interesting, even the later 90s models Austin Montego and so on have a certain charm to them.
A neighbour of mine had a 1979 Austin Allegro (garaged and occasionally brought out) as late as 1995. Stank of fuel when parked and barely ever started properly, but it was so much more interesting than the boring Vauxhall Cavaliers and Ford Orions in my street at the time. Someone else in my road also had a friend driving a Vauxhall Chevette and occasionally that was parked up outside their place.

My dad's cousin used to have this car. You can watch P. Ramlee driving this car in the film Masam Masam Manis [Sour But Sweet] (1965), in which he himself acted and directed.

A very classic design with the hydrolastic suspension. A very clever arrangement that gave smooth ride. The cars were very serviceable albeit quite noisy transmission, which would ‘whine’ annoyingly on long journeys.

The 1100 was the only car of its era that could be started by whacking it repeatedly with a tree branch.

In the 60s the Japanese companies would buy all new British car and motorcycle models in the market ship them to Japan and tear them apart to study the designs to improve upon
Yes this is true..I worked with a Japanese Car company in India and this was as told by a colleague..

Believe it or not, there was a time where China was known for quality engineering and it was Japan mass-producing total crap. That began to change around 40 years ago.
China is absolutely capable of great things, as is Russia. Both of them have excellent, highly educated and skilled engineering workforces and will throw everything at a problem to solve it.
