That was fun, bumping into you guys in the museum and showing you around the storage and technical department. Thanks for stopping by and making us and me part of this video. Come back soon! Greetings, Frans.
I'm so proud of you two for not only trying to improve your Dutch publicly, but while giving us a tour of a city you're not really familiar with either. Bravo!🌹(Try saying ZOOtermeer)
It's the town where I live. It is new, dull, but a good place for living. You only visited one of the parks we have here. There are far more and that's why I like it here. You may want to know Zoetermees was the best cycling town of the country in 2023, which was well deserved into my opinion.
Thank you for visited my city 😊, we live here for almost 30 years, another fact : every suburbs has a number, you can read it the sign on the road, Stadhart Centrum no.11, it means 2711 postcode (Zoetermeer is 27). I see that your journey from Stadhart, Dorpstraat, Driemanspolder (Mandela brug) to West Park....wel a long walk 😊😊😊. Near Zoetermeer is Zoeterwoude, a very old city ...thank you again.
Hello I am someone who was raised up in Zoetermeer, there are still some parts of the Floriade left. The petting farm Balijehoeve is one of them. Also fun fact the part that is reclaimed, is still lower below sea level than the rest of the Netherlands.
In the past I’ve worked at Snowworld in the ski shop before the extension of the longest slope. It’s really great to go skiing or snowboarding for an hour and inside is a nice Austrian mountain lodge atmosphere, including an après-ski bar. I don’t know if they still do it, but in the summer they had a beachvolleybal area outside and in the winter there would be a ice skating ring. Fun fact, the ‘hill’ it’s build on used to be a dumping ground for rubble. They have build a park around it and you can run into some horses and highland cows. Once I saw a man walking his goat on a leash 😂
in recent years its a total scam, prices went up 2x 3x, quality and maintance is gone, there are no people coming in and nobody would care if they would
This was close to my home town of Voorburg , where I grew up. I believe I played Korfball in Zoetermeer once . Korfball is a dutch sport not played in other countries similar to basketball. Maybe in a future video you can explain this sport.
Great video. It’s nice to see you covering beautiful nature, history facts AND things like the Videogame museum. As a gamer i like it very much. Old games bring back great memories. Thank you for another great video. ❤❤❤
awww would have loved to meet .. im living just outside zoetermeer in a small village called Zevenhuizen... if you want to see more mills.. we have 6-7 around the rottemeren.. de rotte actually start just outside moerkapelle here and runs all the way up to Eric and Tammy haha.. so you can swim or bike to them( its about 1.5 hrs. Anyway.. next time rent a bike and visit the Molenviergang and the Rottemeren surrounding :) hugs... btw im in Second Life since 2006
Nice that you've visited my hometown! When you were at the mall, did you notice the UFO like building hanging above the western part? It's a fitness centre, but it's more suitable as a restaurant in my opinion cause of the view. Next time you visit Zoetermeer, be sure to check out the other parks on the edge of the city called Buytenpark (where you can find Snowworld) and a young forest/park called Balijbos.
Normally Floriade is build in locations that is meant to be a building site. Basically it a precursor to a larger plan for a city. It is why it only done every 10 year. For instance the Venlo event had a focus on greenhouse agriculture because they had plans for a dutch auction house in that area. It saved a lot of money because it was where the Germans bought their vegs.
Hi great video. I love your history on different places. As a Dutchie I learn all the time. Love it. I think you both are so brave at sticking into the language it's a difficult language to learn. Keep going looking forward to your next video. BTW how is Eric he was at the cardiologist last Wednesday?
Great video as always you guys. I really laughed at your description of Zoetermeer though, l love your positive outlook. Mainly because I am 100% sure the words picturesque and Zoetermeer have never been used in the same sentence at once in the history of Zoetermeer. If you would say in Dutch: "Zoetermeer is Pittoresk", Dutch people will start to laugh and think it is satire. So therefore I think your positivity about Zoetermeer should be recognized and you should be awarded (Tabasco included) with a statue on a 'picturesque' spot in Zoetermeer immediately!
Very cool! If you like videogames then maybe consider dropping by Blast Galaxy in Amsterdam if you're ever in the neighbourhood. It's across the water from centraal station and while it's an arcade, you don't pay for the machines, but instead buy an entry ticket which then lets you play everything for as long as you want, which is really cool!
this was not a land reclamation project (as its too far inland) but yes the area was flooded, to ward off the spanish invasion that ended in leiden, a little bit more north
Since you spend quite a lot of time on history, it might be fun to look at the ordinary houses in the streets. Often there is a picture on it or the roof is a stepped gable, etc. Maybe you can find out what the meaning of the picture is on that gable. Was there a drug store or fabric store etc., the houses next to it were often for the working people etc.
Guess you haven’t been to Schiedam yet? The mills there are (by my guess) the largest. The height amidst other buildings has to do with the necessity to catch wind… in other words compared to regular mills, these city ones ‘start’ up from the height of the neighboring roofs.
Molen de Noord in Schiedam is the tallest windmill in the world. Mind you, not counting wind turbines. Schiedam has one of them too, De Nolet, which is shaped like an old windmill and is used to power the Nolet Distillery, where Ketel One gin and vodka is made. It’s open to visit by the public.
There is a pinball museum in Rotterdam btw, which works kind of the same way: you pay for entry for 2 hours and you can play all the machines for free during that time.
We actually have a video on Rotterdam from a while ago, but it was during Covid lockdowns. We also just celebrated King’s Day there. We’re probably due for a revisit soon, though.
Used to work in Zoetermeer for a number of years. Especially the old area was really nice. Not so much into the more modern part, especially not the concrete buildings around the Europalaan. It has been around 20 years ago I was there for the last time, so maybe things have improved.
Nutricia's A-quality baby milk powder was very popular (meaning safe) amongst parents in Asia. A couple of years ago Asian customers were hoarding bulk supplies at Dutch drugstores. Stores had to limit the numbers customers were allowed to buy....
Zoetermeer or Zoutermeer, only one letter difference, but makes Sweet Lake City into Salt Lake City! The reference to the city in Utah also come from the biggest Mormon Temple in Europe situated there.
Zoetermeer is not more than a suburb of The Hague. It is big but has no interesting history like Leiden, Delft or Haarlem. Seems to be an affordable place to live for families, and has some interesting leisure facilities for the whole region. Not a city I would recommend a tourist to go and visit.
I agree, I lived in Zoetermeer and worked in The Hague, it was realy nice to live there It was end 70th and beginning 80 th, even the sprinter wasnt there. I saw cows from my window.

We had the absolute best time, Frans! Thank you for showing us around behind the scenes. We are already planning our next visit!

Thank you so much for your kindness, it’s such a charming place.
Nice video; Zoetermeer is close by, but I never knew the museum was there. The pinball museum in Rotterdam is very nice too!
So you've been in my hometown . Sorry i missed you and if i knew upfront i would have meet up. Still lots to see and discover .
Agreed!
So nice for You to have paid my home town a visit. Really enjoyed the video.
Thanks T&T , the videogame museum is awsome! 👏👏
It really is!

Love your videos. I've seen them all. As a Canadian we all know that the "lanes" in the game of curling are called sheets. Keep up the good work.

Yes, we definitely noticed that! One day was certainly not enough to do all the exploring we wanted to. Luckily, we live pretty close.
I do love the view while working out there though!

I recommend Dordrecht for a city trip. The oldest city of South and North Holland.

In the Dorpsstraat in Zoetermeer is a great vegan restaurant named Ministerie van Geluk, or Departement of HHappyness
Ooh! We’ll have to check that out. Thank you!
I live 13 minutes from the museum.
Awesome, have you been?
Hi there.whe cant w8 allot of days..who won the hot pepper challenge.😂😂😂🔥👍
The video is up now!
She says "Zoetermeer" right, but the stress should be on the last syllable: "zooter'MEHR".

its been there for a thousand years or so, therefor it cannot be a suburb of anything
i wouldnt send any tourist to haarlem or leiden either, small villages with one single street of interest
Your channel is very informative and interesting, you do a lot of cultural stuf.
Thank you so much!
you should come to limburg maastricht, sittard or valkenburg and take eric and tammy with you
Sounds like fun!
I have worked in Zoetermeer in IT as well and I used to go to a gym there too. The city itself is not my cup of tea.
Definitely could see how it wouldn’t be for everyone. It’s certainly not the most picturesque city in The Netherlands.
The best thing you can do is in Zoetermeer, is get the hell out to the next city, ROFL.
I believe my cousin is a political representative in Zoetemeer.
That’s pretty neat!
Like where i live we have a Black Lake = Zwarte Meer. But it is also the name of the small town to Germany.
And it's black because off the old moors
