    *UPDATE* - More Game Performance Videos are coming on the GTX 1080 TI. Some are already included in my first video "Which Should You Buy?", linked below, more are scheduled this week.
    The first video coming soon is going to be Ghost Recon Wildlands, tested on Ryzen 7 1700X with 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p results at multiple detail settings, to show you what is possible with the GTX 1080 TI.
    Future videos will show the 1080 TI compared to the GTX 1080 & GTX 1070, to show what you really get for the extra money. Vega will also be covered when it launches later this summer.
    As noted in the video, I've also tested 780 TI vs 980 TI vs 1080 TI, but have not published those videos yet, they also will be coming soon, I simply need to edit and voice them over, but the benchmarks are done.

      Everything I play is well over 60 FPS. Overwatch, Divinity OS, Diablo 3, etc. Skyrim SE with eveything max is causing me to be around 40 FPS through. I rarely buy the newest games. Why spend $100+ on a game and all DLCs when you can wait a few years and get everything for under $20. Whether I play a game today or 3 years from now, the enjoyment is the same. Right now I am waiting for Steam's Fallout 3 sale, going to play that next, probably buy Fallout 4 when I buy GTX 1270 or AMD equivalent.

    Great vid as always. Normal 1440p here and 165hz and this card almost doesn't cut it.

    • @2boostedsilverado
      @2boostedsilverado 7 років тому

      XavieR G Lee's I'm gaming at standard 1440p at 165hz too but with a 1070 of to 2101mhz . I'm looking forward to upgrade to a 1080ti because I feel my current card struggles a lot. your input is very important to me

    • @xavierelvis
      @xavierelvis 7 років тому +2

      I had a 1070 before my 1080ti so I know just how much newer titles need the extra performance. Although 2100 on 1070 is a pretty golden oc chip. Gsync though makes a world of difference as long as you never drop below 60fps. Just look at the benchmarks of the games you are playing at 1440p and make sure your average is around 100-120 for smooth visuals. If you play slightly older games or don't mind maxing everything the 1070 can still get the job done so choose wisely before upgrade. There is always the resale value of your 1070 so you can easily make the jump to 1080 or 1080ti.

    • @2boostedsilverado
      @2boostedsilverado 7 років тому

      XavieR G Lee's G-sync here too. And about the OC you got it right. Ppl don't believe it sometimes. I have to send them pictures and videos LOL. At 68c and below is a steady 2101mhz. if temp rises it starts dropping to 2088-2075mhz Fan curve is pretty aggressive and I keep the room at 21c. Once I tested at the worst conditions...32c ambient temperature for and hour of gaming. It hit 76c max and steady 2075mhz. I won't do that again cause my CPU went 82c max. Never before passed 75C. Oh well 1080ti will be. thanks for your answer. really appreciate it.

    • @xavierelvis
      @xavierelvis 7 років тому +2

      No worries man. Last piece of advise for you is if you can, wait for the AMD Vega Launch before purchasing the 1080ti. Not that you will get that if you have already invested in Gsync monitor, but prices tend to drop on major releases so you could save some money. The stronger the Vega card is on release the bigger the price drops of current models. The 1070 I think will get you easily another couple months.

    • @SmashOhaxorz
      @SmashOhaxorz 7 років тому

      Lol,I'm using my 980 from 2 years ago on my pg279q, so you know how I feel lol. Playing tomb raider on high with g-sync works about 90% of the time but I really want to enjoy those maxed out settings. No real complaints here though, or at least not enough to spend $700. Maybe a 1080 will suffice as long as I can use this monitor to it's full or close to full capabilities.

    I've got the 1080ti and im using a 1440p monitor, the reason why i went with the 1080ti is because im planning to upgrade to 4K real soon and yes i do agree that this card is an overkill for gaming at 2K especially since i have a 16:9 monitor, can't wait to test it in 4K tho!

    • @2boostedsilverado
      @2boostedsilverado 7 років тому +1

      Jack johnson ho Kack. When you say Overkill what do you mean? I want to upgrade to 1080ti for a standard 1440p @165hz.

    • @jackjohnson8305
      @jackjohnson8305 7 років тому

      2boostedsilverado as in its too powerful for 1440p monitors, if you wanna play at 1440p then get a 1070

    • @2boostedsilverado
      @2boostedsilverado 7 років тому

      Jack johnson I beg to differ. I already have a 1070 OC to a steady 2.1k and it struggles on AAA games at Ultra hitting 80-120fps in a 165hz monitor. If your point of reference is 60hz maybe then your answer have some sense.

    While I agree to most of what you said, I do not think this card will be anything like how the 780Ti became after 3 years, I believe this would last a little longer than that. Considering Volta might not be coming out until late 2018 or even mid 2019, this can last quite a while before having to upgrade even in 1440p. I don't think any entry level Volta or the gen after that to be able to match this performance level at 1440p.

  • @Bare_Essence
    @Bare_Essence 7 років тому

    One suggestion. I can follow everything you say cause I'm an idiot and watch these videos all the time, build machines, and know the industry, resolutions, performance, and pricing. I just like watching videos, especially yours, looking for things I may not have considered or don't know. However, for those that may not understand most everything, they could easily get lost. A simple chart with resolutions (and/or monitor descriptions) down the left and possibly refresh rates or some other category like program detail at the top or both could help with your voice over and discussion. The cells could show the recommend and then higher level cards; e.g. 1070 (1080). You could flash this to the screen as you talk about certain things periodically and people can pause or at least see a highlighted cell or area on the chart that pertains to the current discussion point. It could provide a nice reference, and it would also add a little diversity to the sit and talk videos. Not sure how much this would add to the editing process. I like your current format for me as it is since it's fairly direct number/fact intensive, but some could get lost in those numbers. Thanks as always and I look forward to the video on the Ti overview!

    Here we are , midway through 2019, and the 1080 ti is still second best gpu ,( alongside 2080), behind the 2080ti . It's still the same price as it doesn't have to compete with 40% more expensive 2080ti .It is the better buy because it doesn't have the failure issues of the 20 series cards . Historically the previous equivalent cards ( up to the 980ti) would have been down at the bottom end by now but this card is still at the top, it looks like the 1080ti was the sweet spot and will last longer at the high end than any previous iteration .

    As someone who owns 144hz 1080p UW I can second the notion that a 1070 is totally fine. I can set most things at very high/ultra and with some tweaking (Dropping shadow quality down, keeping AA as low as FXAA, etc) I can easily get up to ~80fps on most games (Which is where I honestly stop being able to notice the extra frames).
    I wouldn't mind upgrading to a 1080 for the reasons mentioned in this video (Bumping graphics up an extra few notches) but I'll most likely be picking up a Vega when it's released to make use of the Freesync on my monitor and for aforementioned bumping.
    I _could_ go up to a 1080ti but that's a huge step up just so I can turn on a bunch of settings I likely wouldn't fully appreciate anyway (Although, having SSAA on would be fantastic).

    I use the EVGA SC2 hybrid 1080ti for 3440x1440( acer predator x34 ) and I think that's the best paring I can turn up pretty much everything and have great frame rates. I still feel that a single GPU can't handle 4K high settings on everything yet and never drop below 60fps. So glad I saved up and upgraded I was using a GTX 645 for close to 5 years on a 1080p tv

    I have the 980ti that I use for 1440p 144 g-sync monitor and play Battlefield 4 and 1, overwatch, played total war games, metal gear, black desert, dying light, and a lot of games that I hit 100 fps or more it one hell of a card and it is from Zotac that I did not OC because it was beefy enough as it came. Been really hard to decide to upgrade or not since card doesn't seem to have any issues. It is paired with the 5820k who also seem to be showing no issues and my rig get job done for any task it needs to tackle. I feel what you said is right that at around 3 years is when most gpu start to slow down. In a sense you get the value from your card the longer you use it. But when you have money and it's not an issue then yea why not upgrade lol. I really love your channel good sir I don't know why but how you think is similar to me and for most topics how you come across them. I do hope your channel grows I remember when you first started and you really come alone way I think it how you present yourself that draws people and makes people feel really informed. Good Video. Nice you took up 21:9 1440p cos thats me. I'm playing Wildlands on this Ultrawide Freesync 791 monitor from samsung. OC'ed my RX 480 fråm 1338 to to 1405Mhz with (2000) 2100Mem clock. Average fps in benchmark is 62. Its still a 100 hz monitor so I really hope Vega can push up this freesync monitor in wildlands to 100 fps in better settings. Still to be seen though...

    I basically only play simulators, but I still like higher res so i bought a GTX 1060 6GB card. That'll play all 1080p games at high settings. I also have a PC with a 1050 and even that plays 1080p games at close to high settings.

    I have a GTX 1080 for 1080p but I like to play at 120+ fps, also when I upgrade my monitor to a 1440p 144/165 Hz I will need a faster card. I always upgrade my card every 2 or 2 and a half years.

    I'm waiting for the Volta incarnation of the Titan. I know it will eventually become a Ti but I just want to own one from day one. I currently own a Titan (700 series) and a Titan X Maxwell. Both used. Got the first for $49 and the Maxwell for $310. But are AIO cooled and work just fine for 1080p and 1440p as I have them set up in different systems. If the Volta generation can do 4k at Ultra 100ish fps in 90% of the games I see it as an investment worth making. Yes its $1200 but in the end you can always sell it and get at least 3-400 back. So all in all it will be costing you as much as a Ti of current gen. And yes you will loose out in 100-200 if you bought the Ti version and sold that for 3-400. But of a period of 2 years you will most likely have spent $100-200 on single use garbage anyway.

      O ONNIT well even a 10 years old cpu pair with a current budget gpu will hit most game on 60fps.upgrade your gpu gtx 1060 faster 75% than gtx 960.i recommend you get a gtx 1060.

      Battle Of The Bottlenecks - i5 2500 VS GTX 1060 6GB Ultra 1080p a video in youtube, see a bottleneck in some games so the i5 3450 (i have this and is so good, using a 750ti) will be better, but if you can afford more maybe the new gen (for the speed ram) will the best option

    . . .or if you don't want to dish out 2500 USD on a professional video card, and want to get a gaming card which can perform as well despite not having software specific drivers. Sometimes just raw transistor power can overcome.

    Good review but
    I never saw someone playing triple a titles at 165fps or more. All cards struggle to get over 100 fps at any Resolution if you want the best quality. Sometimes 1080p is more demanding than 4k if you want a real 4k experience on a 1080p screen. 16×msaa with advanced lod and some colour and sharpness mods... (Never play at maxed settings because it's more demanding than a higher resolution at high details.)

    Just ordered a strix gtx 1080 for $520 (very cheap in Sweden) and I'm very happy with my purchase. Might not be able to play all a games at 4K ultra but if I play 4K and put some setting to high instead I will achieve 60fps. And of course 1440p ultra on every game is very achievable so imo the 1080 ti is not worth it, at least for me.

    Hi, I own a 3440x1400 100 hz Gsync monitor and am running a 1080 SLI set up. Gsync doesn't work too well with a SLI set up and I am thinking of getting rid of my SLI setup and just going for a single 1080TI. Will a single 1080TI be able to power games like The Witcher 3 at max setting with consistently high 90-100 FPS? At the moment, with Gsync on, my 1080 SLI is only able to push out high 70-low 80 FPS, but the card is only running at 60-70% load. Would a single 1080TI be able to beat this?

    AMD 6870 1GB - $175 after tax and rebate (April 2012) (First PC Build)
    AMD R9 380 4GB - $210 after promotion and tax (August 2015) (6870 died)
    GTX 980 Ti or Better Equivalent for $150-250 - Future Upgrade
    If I had bought a 7970 in early 2012 it would've been $550+ rather than being out less than $400 for 2 cards spread out. Thanks to being a new architecture, driver support and more VRAM the R9 380 > 7970; probably the Ghz Edition that came later in 2012 as well. Going from the 6870 to the 380 was a 2-2.25x performance upgrade.The top of the line card of 2015 was the 980 Ti for $650+; about *1/2 of that performance could be found in the R9 380 for 1/3 the price*.
    If you pick the right CPU you're better equipped to handle that massive an upgrade without getting bottlenecked 3-5 years down the road so there's less incentive to upgrade to a new platform.

    a 1080ti is not overkill on a single 1080P monitor in x-plane, prepar3d, planet coaster,these are all considered games,i still can't max x-plane 11 on a single 1080p monitor, i use 9gb of the 11 gb on the 1080ti, so there are specific cases it's needed. you never cover any games except first person shooters so people don't know on this channel.i enjoy your video's and still learn alot, but you test the same games over and over. some fresh content would be appreciated as far as games go.thanks for another video, i know how time consuming it is to create these.
