- BlackBerry Torch 9850 Review. Best Berry Yet?
Back in the day, I was a BlackBerry cheerleader with Pearl Pom Poms and a Bold miniskirt. RIM and I parted ways as soon as I happened upon an iPhone 3GS, but the love never dwindled. In fact, that love was recently illuminated by the BlackBerry Torch 9850 for Sprint. A 1.2GHz processor, 768MB of RAM, BlackBerry 7 OS and a 3.7-inch all-touch display flaunted its stuff right before my very eyes. But was the BlackBerry Torch 9850 enough of a revolution to sway me from my trusty iPhone 4? And what, pray tell, is this hullabaloo surrounding BlackBerry's cloaked QNX software and its possible emergence in the first quarter of 2012? Check out the video review for the entire 411 on the BlackBerry Torch 9850.

This guy is hands down the best reviewer I've ever heard.
Loved this review! Mike's very entertaining and the phone is pretty good too. Personally, it wouldn't be my choice in phone. If I were to get a Blackberry, I'd get one with a physical keyboard.
WOAH those pictures were way clearer then i expected
had this phone for a year now and still think it's the sexiest and best BB ever!
@JimenezBailey same here man...i can't decide. I have an ipod touch 3 gen already... but the BB has almost no mainstream apps. :/ so confused...have u decided yet?
I'm not sure if I was having a bad night but I couldn't watch all of this review. This review or reviewing style made me wanna throw my phone into the wall idk. I guess the drama was doing it for me. But it is good to see a review from technobuffalo finally showing more of the phone in comparison to talking.
Very good info thanks. Trying to decide between BB 9850 or iPhone 4s?
@jagjagin: Widgets ARE applications but applications aren't widgets, widgets are used to access that application, have an aesthetic feel and to access something faster or with just a quick look.
I'm thinking the same thing! I keep watching reviews on this phone and it makes me want it, but then I think of the app store too. I have a Samsung (which glitches pretty much constantly) so I'm used to having a lot of apps. If I switched to the Blackberry, I would lose basically all the apps I use.
i actually have the 9860 but i'm running .569 as of now. no issues like in previous os releases so i plan on sticking with this one for a while.
thanks for the info, gettin ready to buy this phone
What was the purple light in the trackpad
is the screen very sensitive like the iphone or do you have to press the screen very hard
I used to be in love with my blackberry and was missing it at first when I got my EVO,but now I don't think I could go back. It's still a great phone! But no front facing camera, that's a no
@toasterdance Yes, I apologize. I thought this Torch had a slide out keyboard like the first generation ones. My mistake. It was an excellent review.
Would be the phone ever if it had apps like the AppStore, I mean 1.2 ghz processor it's capable of playing games....Rim needs to do something
Excellent review.
lost my bold 9930 and asurion doesnt have anymore , should i go with the 9850 ? please someone get back to me
What happenend to infosync Mike? You not making vids anymore there?
Dont know bbt9850 or samsung g s2 or Sony Ericsson arc or htc chacha or nokiae6 help or maybe there is a bettrr phone tell me about it
The reason BlackBerry has no apps or widgets is because the other phones have small screens (Bold,Curve) And Blackberry doesn't wanna change the OS and Appworld just for the bigger screened phones, even though they should...
This reviewer is awesome! :)
Memory is RAM, storage is the 4GB internal memory + 4GB SD card!!!
Don't get it mixed up!
this? or the bold 9930? its for my job so these are the only choices!!! please help!!
Why didn't he show us the keyboard??? This phone has a slide out keyboard as one of its main selling points -- it's like you get the best of both worlds. It would have been nice to hear what he thought of the keyboard...
Way to go RIM, finally an iPhone 4 contender. Oh wait a minute, you're a year late.
Hi who phone is better the 9850 or the 9930
My dads getting this for me tomorrow! :D
where is john?
@2468gman How is android a ripoff? and how does that affect how flexible and powerful the system is?
i might be getting one.... just to try. Im not afraid
8:40 Is a prime example where having atrackpad is useful on a touchscreen device.
8:40 Is a prime example where having trackpad is useful on a touchscreen device.
does the facebook have chat?
@alphie20 I did show you the keyboard at 6:25.
finally a good touch screen blackberry
@alphie20 he says within the first minute of the vid that its a "all touch screen"...
I own an iPhone and this phone makes me want to return to blackberry...... and then I think about the app store. They should be like windows phone and offer developers large amounts of money to make apps. If they do this they might actually make a comeback in the phone industry. They target business people but they fail to see that most of the public want apps and games.
rip
@jkingmuzik This guy loves his iPhone. He just posted a rant on TechnoBuffalo about how he likes what Apple does way more than Google. He's just saying some features are better than the iPhone 4 (which is over a year old now, at this point). He didn't say it was better than the iPhone, overall. Just some things.
i may get this one or the lg marquee
I hate when reviewers always refers to the iphone! alot of people haven't used an iphone on a daily basis so its hard to understand when they compare to it!
@alphie20 No prob--I got them mixed up too when they were first announced. :)
Gosh he's the best reviewer TechnoBuffalo has.
@simolatham03 I agree with you mate, android owners do seem to forget about the 'personal preference' thing
@Trevman1011 When you label your phone a "Smartphone" and start making phones like the Storm and Tourch. You`re in competition with the iPhone.
@Trevman1011 true that. The only big difference is A5 chip (wow its 2x faster big whoop iphone 4 was fast enough) and Siri, but personally i believ that i buiy a phone to do things with it, not for it do do it itself.
ps: i DO NOT want people looking at me thinking i am a wako because i am talking to my phone.
@alphie20 erm no that would be the original torch and the 9810
They're going the right direction, but they're not there quit yet.
Lets face it, RIM is on a path to crash and burn while Android and iOS reign supreme and Windows Phone7 being the solid third place runner.
@khurim Infosync Mike is now Buffalo Mike.
RIM are lagin, and I'm not talking about the OS.
Have this lol and U dont need the question mark in the "Best Berry Yet"
this review has been rudely interrupted by a mercedes benz commercial... hahahaha
I'm still sticking with my galaxy s 2
He's a reference
it would be a great phone for a novice user if the price was cheaper
peanut butter jelly sandwich of smartphone goodness LOL.
this phone isn't competitive nowadays? do you want to change that phone with my Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic? ah... --'
@MathewWhiteMariah well at least it wasn't a years wait for a better camera :P
@Programmer7 I don't really love any phone, actually.
@DarthProlif most widgets are app buttons, XD
Jon you have made a lot of great hires, this dude is not one of them! He is incredibly annoying!!!!!!!!!!
@ThePlutobob FIRST ONE TO REPLY.
@Wasifcool No.
@EminemKingOfRappers There are two new ones, this one and another one that is much more similar to the Torch 9800.
NICE review but we hardcore blackberry fans don't want widgets tey suck as hell if we use widgets we never goin in to the menu because of the widgets ,,
nice
omg the boot screen error is just so ... bad...
@jagjagin: Obviously an iOS user? Widgets are awesome coming from an Android user. Widgets like Beautiful Widgets and Accuweather are very nice, helpful and informative to have. Then you have your UA-cam and Pandora widgets which are a quick way to access entertainment, widgets are awesome. App buttons are boring.
very sensitive
@2468gman Now would you care to give an intelligent explanation to that?
no angry birds?! fuck this lol
thumbs down for them weird thumbs!
This doesnt have shit on andriod :)
@2468gman HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!! oooooo..... thats a good one.
