Making Techno With 1 Sample

Поділитися

  • Опубліковано 26 тра 2020
  • One sleepless night I had an idea to try and make a track with just 1 sample. This video is the result of this fun experiment :)
    What I've learned is that with 1 good sample and the flexibility of Ableton you can actually do a lot, and pretty fast. The 1 sample limitation really boosts your creativity and your mind is working in a different way.

    This just shows, that you don't really need so many samples/ext. plug-ins etc.
    If you know how to use the (in this case Abletons) stock plug-ins and know how they effect each other, you are sooo ahead!
    Great video! If you make it a whole series, that would be great!

      idk, many of these tracks are effectively sample-triggered physical modeling synths imo, with the amount of resonators and distortions and eqs and such stacked up. nothing wrong with that, but still quite a bit of complexity

    • @seaofseeof
      @seaofseeof 4 роки тому +5

      What you "need" depends on your workflow. If this process is creatively stunting to you in any way, then this isn't effective at all. To a lot of people, the additional steps required to turn a kick sample into another sound will kill their creative process.
      It's a fun thing to showcase, but music production isn't strictly outcome based. And there are a lot of other factors that go into facilitating production than just the raw creation of sound. I doubt Richard Devine will tell you that even he "needs" anything more than a single app to create a quality track. But that's not stopping him from playing with his modular setup. Just because you can use only a single sample to get things done technically, doesn't mean that you may not not need more to realize your creative vision.
      "Technical limitations" are almost never a limitations on arranging songs into a sounds, but almost always limitations to creativity. And what is or isn't a technical limitations will highly depend on the person.

    Would be an even better insight of your mind & production process if each slide had a little summary and reasoning behind main decisions like 'Keeping low end processing to minimal to avoid muddyness' or 'Setting low LFO rate for a hypnotic feel'.
