2:20:28 it is fine to give honor and respect to our spiritual leaders but should be very careful not to put them on a pedestal. He says the anointing always flows from the higher person to the lower person but Jesus taught otherwise. Mary, a much lower person than Jesus, anointed Jesus with oil before his burial. She was chastised for this but Jesus defended her.

Please that oil was not anointing, it was an honour. If Mary anointed Jesus, then Jesus should have been declared anointed from that, but he was declared anointed after the Holy Spirit came on him

What scripture are you referring to? Because the anointing ALWAYS flows downward.

@@danielbill428 maybe we’re playing semantics because anyone could anoint anything or anybody, but “the anointing” of the Holy Spirit? This is what the pastor says always flows down. What about just like you said? Matt 3:13-17 when the clearly lower John the Baptist baptizes Jesus, causing the anointing of the Holy Spirit to come upon him? Maybe John was higher. Maybe Jesus wasn’t greater until he was raised from the dead. Or maybe pastor is wrong about the anointing. My point is, the pastor seemed to be drawing a line in the sand between the common people and the “anointed” clergy. And I’ve seen many “anointed” pastors abuse the power of being put on a pedestal above the rest of the people. Look at Saul and David. Insert name of any pastor or priest involved in a scandal in the last 3 decades. They all abused the power that pastor is promoting here. As far as I can tell Jesus liked to level the playing field. He liked to challenge the teachers of the law. The last will be first and the first will be last. Love god and love your neighbor. He never said, “don’t get too familiar with the anointed preacher”. Jesus seemed pretty familiar with the common folk.
