When I talk to fans IRL they always bring up the Menards videos. So anytime there's.... anything at Menards I try and give it a shot. Sadly the days of the smart watches, kid's tablets and Big Clive Death Boomboxes are gone. Not as interested as a few years back :(
I SO DO MISS MENARDS. It was one of those places I HAD to go to when I drove up with my two dogs to see my mother after moving down to Mississippi. I was kind of forced to, since my air matress got popped by my dog, so needed something to allow me to sleep in my Truck bed. Which I didn't end up doing and just did what I normally do and drive the whole 20 hrs. It's a 13hr trip but man do I not like driving. So, I still remain awake for 20hrs. Also that drive up north is BORING. 90% NOTHING. Though you do get to drive past the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid in Memphis??? That's neat. Or get literally driven off road by a semi since they didn't see your giant Tundra in the left lane.
Back in the late 90"s there were duffle bag "vendors" who would come to my shop on foot selling these sort of Knick Knacks. I remembering my boss (AKA dad) purchasing these handheld gaming setups in the form factor of a PS1 controller. Exciting times!! Of course i was 10 years old at the time.
That Menards handheld game. Reminds of the ones ya used see in 90s early 2000s in those mail order catalog that grandparents would have laying around the livingroom that sold a bunch as seen on TV junk . I know my grandma used buy from the harriet carter mail order catalog.
Holograms, a dot matrix LCD, something that beeps were basically everything that was amazing in the early 80's. Maybe they could have thrown in an LED.
Honestly, I love Menard's because it reminds me of home, but even that was before the current Menard's. I'm mainly here because you're hilarious (😅 and also remind me of home; MN), and so if I'm honest, I'd be *_just as happy_* if you bought and tore apart Wish/Temu/Ali junk! 😊
I'm fairly confident I had that same exact game thing as a kid and I'm 33 now (different plastics of course since this predates the PSP). It's insane that someone somewhere spend the time and money to even make a mold for this thing.
I got a version of this for Christmas in 1997, it branded itself as “1997 games in 1”. Of course, over 1500 of those were variants on the Tetris rule set. The 26 game modes and the two-car racing game are familiar-if this isn’t the same code it’s very closely based on it. I guess they gave it 4 buttons to make it look more modern. (There was one game that the barebones manual only described as “ghost hunter”, and I never worked out how you were supposed to play it)
It is impressive for $2.99. I'd think just the display would cost that much. But you're getting the case, a few screws, a speaker, the board with a glop on it and some pieces of wire too. I can't even imagine how they put it all together for just $2.99 It has to be completely hand assembled.
Never would I have thought, in 2024, we would still have companies producing sub-Game Boy-quality handheld knockoffs. That thing makes Tiger Electronics look like Analogue.
Ben, I hope you know I am eagerly waiting for your take on Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, with your Harrison ford and Sean Connery impressions sprinkled in, in classic Ben Heck fashion.
They definitely aren't bad for the price. I got one at the Seattle airport 10 years ago for 6 bucks. It still works perfectly, on the original AAs it came with. They haven't even leaked yet:)
I started new comment, but those knit hats in my area of Ontario, Canada are called Toques (pronounced "Tuk" with a strong U sound and also spelled "Touques") especially if they have a little pompom at the top. I would think living in Wisconsin everyone may have one of those for Winter, but I guess again, to each their own. I would have thought PCB Way would send out something more practical as well, like you said, at least my free gifts from Temu are things I can select that I want.
How thoughtful of them to make 16 of those 23 games Tet, I mean, "Blockbuilder". Can you mod that into something more useful, Ben? "It would be a great asset. Can it be done?" You would probably only use the case and the PCB, though, the LCD would go to the bin. Have the flavor of all sodas changed throughout the years in the US too? I feel like they all taste awful these days here where I live, and I'm pretty sure my personal taste hasn't changed.
How crazy is it that i find samsung lipo batteries in $1 rattle toys with usb charge cables at dollar general and those same batteries in a tooth brush design are $30 and no usb cable included. Cruminal
Ben, maybe you of all people may know what I'm talking about. Do you remember an ad around the year 2000 or so, maybe slightly later, for one of those 1000-in-one type game systems, where they talk about how many block-breaking games are in that 1000-in-one system compared to actual consoles, like 300 vs the paltry 17 or something on the N64, and then they show a mother throwing the N64 and a controller into the garbage. They had TV ads, and print ads in the game mags like EGM back in the day, but I can't find them online. Do you remember those ads? I'm dying to see them again.
Game device is exactly the same as the mini/micro one. You can use the case to build something your own. 3D printer controller or something like that. In the mini/micro I build an arduino with a tiny oled screen.
17:00 Pretty sure it's a very stylized 福 /fuku/ in golden, one of the kanji (Japanese)/hanzi (Chinese) for good fortune, mostly used for New Year's gifts, with a negative draw of a paper lantern or 提灯 /chouchin/
While that "SUPER" game system isn't something to write home about.....and it doesn't really have any parts worth salvaging......the casing looks halfway decent if someone wants to build their own portable gaming system and from the side-shot it looks like it could have a decent amount of space for some electronics, moreso if you cutout the inside portion of that battery compartment.
NO WAY!! I used to have the same exact thing like 10-15 years ago!! The 99 games in one thing! Except in a different housing But the same exact games and UI and screen!
Have you seen the keychain version? 1" x 2", but plays exactly the same. Strangely, the one I have lacks the crunchy explosion sounds. They've been replaced with a beep.
I hope your wet cat food dispenser is just like Doc's dog food dispenser in Back to the Future Part 1. And you can do the modern equivalent of what he did and wire it up to the Internet of shi - I mean Internet of things so you can press a button on your phone to make it dispense the food instead of just setting a timer and forgetting about it.
LoL games hub with games from a handheld i got from Ames in the 90's swear even the same sounds haha. Really crazy thing for like 5 more bucks can get modern retro handheld.
You can probably find some complete leapfrog game systems for that price at most thrift stores, and get more functionality than that 'toy'.😂 Truly amazed they waste time/money on these garbage game machines.😮 I feel sorry for the kid that gets one of these from their boomer grandparents. 😅
As a boomer, the only use I can see for that game would be as a gag gift for my grandson, with a note in the box that says "Just Kidding! Your real gift is in the other box."
Those are the memorable lines from Hook? I was thinking, "Captain, I think I just had an apostrophe!" then Hook comes in mumbling like he's half asleep on his bed, "I think you mean an Epiphany." I liked Hook, but to each their own. Then again, I was born in June 1985, so what do I know, since I am just a millennial. That said, you're only the tail end of Gen X yourself, if your Wikipedia page is correct, being 9 years and 9 months older than me. Wow, I have known about you since checking out your how-to guide to making various vintage consoles portable and that's about 20 years ago now in 2005. I had a game like that years ago that my grandmother gave me when I was a kid. It was a flip-top, I believe, same crappy car game and doubled as a calculator. I played with it for maybe an hour tops and then set it aside. I just went back to playing games on my GameCube, PC and Xbox as well as my legacy systems the SNES and N64. Thunderf00t may seem focused on Elon Musk but that's because Elon is such an idiot to begin with. I mean, Tesla and SpaceX are failing at making quality products without exploding and he boasts that, "At this point I think I know more about manufacturing than anyone currently alive on Earth." or something along those lines. He can barely reinvent things.
Any restoration video. Title: Making this console I found in a ditch into a 1000 Dollar game console. Clickbait thumbnail: The OMG face and pixelated item. I couldn't think about anything else while you read that Eon fellow introduction, that could have been an E-mail. SuStAiNaBiLiTy bla bla, they manufactured or ordered all those items (basically unneeded garbage), send them across the world, then the package got delivered to your house, probably most of the items get dumped in the garbage or is just some useless paperweight collecting dust for someone to throw out when you die. This times all the tubers who got sent these. Is that really sustainable? Just delivering pretty garbage. All that work and energy wasted for some delivered garbage.
So the battery compartment with a tab and a screw confuses me. I always hate my devices that do that. I guess they probaly do that do keep small children out of the battery compartment and those delicious candied double As 1:27 right ? Also I heard that the dude who made catch me if you can never worked for the feds never snuck out of a potty in a plane ✈️. I realize I shouldn’t be surprised that a con man lied to me, but I was sad.
You need to update your channel description. You wrote it in the _The Ben Heck Show_ days, whereas it now needs to be like "my original and current channel, that was also used as my second channel during the _The Ben Heck Show_ days" or something like that.
Ah, just what we all wanted, another branding campaign, exquisitely explained for each letter, feather and color choice. Mozilla did the same thing one week ago. Money well spent. Not.
Wait, so I´m one year older than Ben, I was born in april 1975....weird, I thought he was older... :-D Edit: Looks he was born in 1975 as well but later...

Checkout their daily Flash Sales that you can buy and have delivered to the store to pickup. Sometimes they have stuff you'd like

Time to go beyond the junk. Time to hack Ring video doorbells, programmable christmas lights, and power tools...all from Menards!
That lunchbox belongs in a museum!
that little game thing would be a great start for another portable, just with all the buttons all setup and easily cut into!
Being colorblind, the box is perfect camouflage for Bud.
So glad you said that about Thunderfoot thats spot on 😂
The running stream-of-consciousness commentary while you're doing stuff is a primary reason I keep watching your videos!
I like the idea of happening upon a huge stock of segmented LCDs intended for tetris and making a product around it with more games
A couple years ago I turned down a crazy buyout. I've been looking now to try something similar, and I Rue the day
Ha! I have that exact game. Bought it for the case to put a project in :D
Dustin Hoffman in Hook was quite the performance. I had no idea it was him until about a decade after I saw it at the cinema!

I got the same PCBWay Christmas swag box! I have been a partner with them since July 2021
Yay! Another video from Uncle Ben!
Spielberg's movies are so long because 1) he produces all his own stuff and 2) nobody at a studio wants to tell him his movie is too long.
Spielberg also supports the heinous war crimes committed by Israel
That game thing I definitely had in another shell in 2003 or so
1:23 "This is a THICC BOY!"
It HAS to be Ben to hold all 23 of those games!
Ben rocking the hockey player lettuce. Looks great with the hat.
Wet food dispenser!? Looking forward to seeing that
The most interesting thing about that whole device was the minimalistic circuit board.
It is impressive for $2.99. I'd think just the display would cost that much. But you're getting the case, a few screws, a speaker, the board with a glop on it and some pieces of wire too. I can't even imagine how they put it all together for just $2.99 It has to be completely hand assembled.
And the "nice rack" @10:00
Never would I have thought, in 2024, we would still have companies producing sub-Game Boy-quality handheld knockoffs. That thing makes Tiger Electronics look like Analogue.
You should've shown off this game playing thing....on a brown couch for authenticity 🛋
I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone "green screen" the sofa for a laugh.
The Popstation series must continue.
Thunderfoot joke was funny
Those "Brick games" seem to of been around since the early 90s, and they havent changed in all those years, appart from being bunged in various shells
Christmas is early this year with the gift of a Menards vid! 😉
finally the ben heck popstation crossover
Ben, I hope you know I am eagerly waiting for your take on Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, with your Harrison ford and Sean Connery impressions sprinkled in, in classic Ben Heck fashion.
It's so good IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!
Awwww, yeahhhh
3:17 new thunderfoot just dropped
Musk fanbois be forewarned 😅
It's like someone made the wholesale challenge😂
0:00 I had a larger clamshell version when I was younger. Those things are decades old. Even 20 years ago they were bad.
It's crazy they still sell stuff like this.
Made my day!
The most exciting thing about that game is the holographic face sticker!
Says "Has to be printed" while holding the molding marks right up to the camera.
Since it's supposed to confuse grandmas into thinking it's a PSP. hence the superfluous buttons.
This seems like an upgrade compared to the crappy Tiger handhelds I had as a kid.
They definitely aren't bad for the price. I got one at the Seattle airport 10 years ago for 6 bucks. It still works perfectly, on the original AAs it came with. They haven't even leaked yet:)
Menard's is now my favorite store that I've never been to.
It's the best place to get Cheez Balls, the barrel is larger than any other store. You could probably fit a whole cat in one.
We need more British Comedies again like in the 80's on PBS...lol
I started new comment, but those knit hats in my area of Ontario, Canada are called Toques (pronounced "Tuk" with a strong U sound and also spelled "Touques") especially if they have a little pompom at the top. I’ve got a different version of that game thing, but it actually uses tiny carts
Ben, maybe you of all people may know what I'm talking about. There are so many versions of that LCD game out there. I believe that the McNugget lcd game is the same exact thing too.
Game device is exactly the same as the mini/micro one. You can use the case to build something your own. 3D printer controller or something like that. In the mini/micro I build an arduino with a tiny oled screen.
Based on your references, I'm guessing our recommended videos and youtubers must be quite similar!
17:00 Pretty sure it's a very stylized 福 /fuku/ in golden, one of the kanji (Japanese)/hanzi (Chinese) for good fortune, mostly used for New Year's gifts, with a negative draw of a paper lantern or 提灯 /chouchin/
I'll have to keep an eye out for that game at menards next time I need more Blueberry Jam.
You could use the case and the buttons and put your own game inside.
my cat hated those sounds! she jumped up onto the TV stand and was trying to smack your hands
Lucky! My Menards only has the 2 in 1 "Adequate Game".
I've spent over $100k with pcbway and they haven't sent me a single piece of swag 🤨
1:30 my son saw one of these in target and asked if I could used it for a pi zero retro gaming handheld. We did and It was perfect!
16:56 I think it's a wizard leprechaun budgie casting a spell on a pumpkin.
SPOILERS! Mine hasn't come yet.
Man I can't believe they even used screws in this thing haha
NO WAY!!
I used to have the same exact thing like 10-15 years ago!!
The 99 games in one thing!
Except in a different housing
But the same exact games and UI and screen!
Have you seen the keychain version? 1" x 2", but plays exactly the same. Strangely, the one I have lacks the crunchy explosion sounds. They've been replaced with a beep.
I'm not sure how far you'd get in a CTWC competition with tetris block placing skills like that Ben. sorry to say.
i had one of these block games only mine looked like someone took a GBA SP and stuck it to a PS1 controller.
A.I. is a great movie I think about that movie all the time
Welp that was Anti Climatic on the Tear Down
Wow 118dB with no volume knob. Sound Off, or ALL THE WAY ON. Tetris gave me Tinnitus.
This is so bad. yeah consumerism. Let's make stuff that will just be trash.
It's the thought that counts.
Recently rewatched AI... I think it has aged amazingly well
The red piece of poster is "Fortune" in Chinese.

Also, Elon has $320b in the bank.
Right
Bet that lunchbox still smells like bologna and potatochips 😂
Re: the hair-cut.
Grow a mullet bro. Do it. Doooo iiiiiiit!!!
There's so many times I said "that's what she said" during this

No haircut for 2 years and im never going back #GenerationX
And now Ben Heck looks like a dude you'd see on Code blue cam.
That Tetris game sounds just like Duke Nukem 1.
ben has a lego figurine head
Hey' I don't want you or anyone at me nards shopping. They're private!
Almost 50% of the video is an ad.
You need to update your channel description. You wrote it in the _The Ben Heck Show_ days, whereas it now needs to be like "my original and current channel, that was also used as my second channel during the _The Ben Heck Show_ days" or something like that.
definitely not a PSP
nooo what happened to oshpark
I go there quite often and I never see gaming crap. I do see other categories of crap.
Is Ben slowly turning into Gaben? JK... not. Merry Chanukka Ben! Glad to see you're still doing stuff.
Don't forget your 11% "rebate"
You save big money, you save big money, at Menards.
I hate Eon.
Ben looks good in the hat.
That game would have been rotten in 1980
Ben takes time off to work on projects. I don't think that's what taking time off means.
The game is the kind my mother in law would buy the kids and I would mandate they could only be played with the sound off.
you had me at "gift"
This is barely above the old tiger games
1:11 Ashens! You reminded me i haven't seen his videos in ages. So i check and somehow, I've been unsubbed >
sure you don't unsub when his videos became back to back loot boxes? I think now that craze has popped he might actually have some videos worth watching again.
