Hi, Simon. I wonder if you've ever tried to make a suribachi (すりばち), the Japanese "mortar and pestle" we use here in Japan (although the pestle is typically of wood). The bowl (mortar) has a ridged bottom, which makes it easier to pulverize sesame, garlic, etc.. Cheers!
Lovely sets! I really like your quick tip shorts, I have found them very helpful :) I have just started, and you make a really good point about tools, I am working out what is better to finesse in throwing and what in trimming. I notice that some potters throw very basic chunky shapes and then fettle big time, but I think I would prefer less trimming and more throwing, I feel like throwing is the most magical phase and I want to prolong it!
Thanks Simon, helpful as usual!! Love all your videos!!
Will you be selling any of the mortar and petals when they are completed?
Yes i will. I have made these the past but slow sellers they seem to be.
Wonderful tip! Other than the wind, is that a busy highway in the background?
I main question I have is, do you have the wood burner fired up ? I know its getting cool there.😁
Thanks Simon, I’m looking forward to you throwing the Mortars as they will make great Christmas presents & have know idea how to make them ! 💚
Thank you for a very helpful video, as usual. What height & diameter are the mortars when thrown?
Thank you Simon!
Think I’ll give this one a go today. Had our first snowstorm overnight, fire in the stove and a great day for throwing. 👍😉🤞
