Great shopping video! Love the nurseries! I have allergic reaction to most evergreens even when we have cut down our Christmas tree! So, you learn to wear long sleeves if you’re going to plant or any time you need to get up in their business!
I planted two holly shrubs this spring. Very small ones that I hope to see get reasonably mature before I head home to my maker. I planted two the year before also small that have refused to grow for me. Maybe next year will be the charm for the first two I planted. I’ve always been very fond of holly bushes. I also love the fact that they stay evergreen year round and the berries are an added bonus. 🌺💚🙃
"they home-depoed it" 😂😂 I cackled. 100% true though. I have a huge crush on all pothos but Manjulas are my favorite as well. They're such a lovely plant to look at. ❤️
Aren't they!? The cupped leaves and tricolor variegation just makes them extra special. I feel like they don't get enough attention. I remember when the marble queens became trendy and I was like, "really?" 😆 I mean it's pretty, but it's a step DOWN from the manjula in my humble and probably 100% correct opinion. 😆😅🤣 ok that opinion wasn't very humble.
I also love the manjula pothos. I really like all pothos but the manjula is extra special. I have a smallish pot of the manjula, and I really need to take some cuttings and get a few more plants started so I can have a nice lush plant! 🌺💚🙃
What I find hilarious is that our Michigan Home Depot gets plants from Texas and most plants from PW are grown here in Michigan. And people wonder why we have an energy crisis.
I think that I will have to try and find the cape Paris magnolia. I love that the undersides of the leaves are brown. And since their hardy to zone six I should be alright with them, and if they grow fast that’s an added bonus. 🌺💚🙃
Yah! Ret Ro!! Those trees in Home Depot look diseased!!! That is sad! Wheeeee...your backyard looks so exciting...meaning I will be tuning in to see your next video. It is so delightful now the weather has eased up the heat rays & allowed the cooler sunny days. Have a great weekend!
Hi Jeff! It was fun going shopping with you again. Chesterfield Valley Nursery was fantastic! They have so many pretty plants/shrubs/trees. I like the Taylor Junipers, viburnum and magnolia that you got. I need to find some of those Manjula pothos. I love pothos, but haven't seen that variety in the stores here. I will be on the lookout for sure. I'm looking forward to see where you put the mums and other plants you have to pot up/plant. Also, looking forward to more plant shopping. If you can do it safely, it would be fun to see the front of the house after you get things planted. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you Sandy! They had some amazing shrubbery and trees there. Just got one of my magnolias planted up yesterday and am looking forward to getting more evergreens in the ground. 😊
It breaks my heart not to be able to see a Wednesday video but I most certainly can understand. Covid is finally heading out the door but I’m on some medication that makes me very nauseous so I have been stuck in the house feeling sorry for myself. Hopefully only another day an a half of feeling like dog dump. 🌺💚🙃
Keep up with staying hydrated and rest as much as you need to. You'll feel better soon 😊 Hopefully it will only be a couple of weeks until I can do two videos a week again.
I liked this video Jeff. I did most of my stuff from big box 5 gallon buckets I'm on a budget. But you are so right you are buying time. My weeping cherry was from Lowes it's absolutely stunning 14 years later. I got it for my mom for mothers day. I have a redbud that was bare root and 12" from the Arbor Day Foundation 6 years later it's finally 4' tall. So yes you are paying for time. I planted a skinny juniper in my mom's dogs flower/ bed under the canopy of an oak so fairly shady and the backside has some needle drop but it's hanging in there now I want to say 5 years.. I've heard that trees are shy when it comes to growing into anothers canopy. The bed for Baxter my mom's dog he loved the backyard. My neighbor saw me and my daughter digging a big hole in yard and asked us if we were burying a body we said yes. Omg our fur babies how we love them. Mom never lived long enough to see how pretty the cherry tree is, it's beautiful now. Oh and I got a compliment that was the best a few weeks ago I'm no professional landscaper but mine does look nice to me a guy was over at the neighbors and just said to me over the fence I really like what you have done to the yard it's really nice. That was the best compliment. Since I started mostly after mom passed in 2014. It's been a journey She just had a big green square. It looks kind of park like now. I can wash my dishes and smile even during the winter it's pretty. Thanks for your inspiration Jeff.
Aww! What a sweet story. Thank you for sharing that. Sounds like the garden is flourishing and you've got your own special touch to everything you've done.
"whoever planted that there should have moved it back" I have the same issue with the Live Oak in my yard. For whatever reason, it was planted 8 feet closer to the house than any other tree in the neighborhood. And now that it is by far the largest tree in the neighborhood, it is a problem. If a hurricane knocks it over and it falls into the house, that's going to be some damage.
My gardens have grown so much since planting in spring, it’s amazing!!! Including my ‘Flaming Torch’ ginger. I am loving gardening in sun, or at least I’m loving the plant growth that happens in sun. What kind of mulch do you use to protect those hedychium in the winter? I’m debating if I should dig up a small piece in case it’s really cold. I’m also curious too, regarding Brackens brown beauty, which I believe is zone 5b plant. Wouldn’t that be even better than the Kay Parris? I kinda think the praguense viburnum is reminiscent of oleander, kinda. I was also wondering what happened to your Orinoco Banana? Is only the dwarf form hardy-ish?
😆 sun!? Must be nice! Amazing what a difference it makes getting that consistent light in a garden. I'm so glad the flaming torches did well for you. They are one of, if not my favorite of my tropical looking hardy plants. I usually use the cheap cedar mulch with a layer of a good blended compost mulch on the surface. Won't hurt to break off a piece just to be safe. I've only one winter that killed a flaming torch and it was -13F and that one was planted near a spot that is colder than the rest of the garden. ... heavily shaded in the afternoon and exposed and soggy soil. I love the brackens but they easily push 30 to 40 feet around here sometimes, that's a bit much for having near the house. Also I really like how the little gem flowers late spring through fall. The orinocos had to be dug up years ago to run a sprinkler line or something. Idk, was a long time ago. I dont know if it's only the dwarfs or not. I'd think the regular should be pretty dang hardy bc I hear about people growing them and getting them to fruit in the zone 7.
I have some italian cypress trees that I want gone so bad. They are pest magnets and being right against the house the tree companies want a fortune to remove them.
Another nursery visit would be fun. Thank you for taking me/ us along, the first huge nursery was amazing. If I had a charge card I would be in T R O U B L E. 🌺💚🙃
Great nursery tour WoW......"Is this heaven?"...... Thanks for taking us with....great road trip.
I love it there! Happy Saturday, lorell! Hope you enjoy your weekend 😊

Same for me with the Christmas trees! Evergreen oils don't like me apparently.
Oh boy road trip, yippie ! 🌺💚🙃
Love a road trup!
Thank you Jeff, see you whenever, be safe, stay healthy and enjoy the days ahead. 🌺💚🙃
Thank you Judy! Hope you get to feeling better soon!
Hey, Jeff! Your flowers ar so lush and beautiful!!! 😊
Thank you! Hope you're enjoying your weekend 😊

They are great. The color green they have is perfect and those berries! I especially love them when they have just a little snow on them.
❤ I’d go crazy in that nursery 😅
I'm excited to go back! So many shrubs!

They are the best! I like them so much that I don't even understand why the other varieties even exist. 😆
Can’t wait to see what your doing with the mums, I guess I should say doing with all of your new plants. 🌺💚🙃
They'll be fun to play with. Mums are so nice for that instant pop of color and lushness.
What I find hilarious is that our Michigan Home Depot gets plants from Texas and most plants from PW are grown here in Michigan. And people wonder why we have an energy crisis.
That is ridiculous! I understand having to truck up the tropicals, but why the annuals and perennials from a grower that is within the state? Dumb!
Junipers give me a humongous itchy rash too. 🌺💚🙃
And they smell bad!
Happy Saturday
Happy Saturday!
Those pothos were really nice. Not seen those around here I’d like one and will look now you have shared them.
They're my favorite! I hope you can find them!

Exactly! The kay parris is a great "dwarf" magnolia for zone 6!

Ha! I think it's from the summer heat, it was pretty brutal on a lot of the plants at the nurseries which couldn't/didn't use shade cloth.

Ouch! A live oak planted near the house!? Holy crap what were they thinking! Shade? Lol. I guess there's that.
Front garden makeover? 🌺💚🙃
Meh. Maybe. I don't show the front of my house for security reasons but maybe I can do it with close ups and careful angles.

I heard “Bracken’s Brown Beauty Magnolia Tree” can survive in zone 5?

I absolutely love that place. Especially when I'm looking for trees and shrubs!
