  • LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - A Lexington woman awaiting trial on 2023 theft charges is accused of committing more theft offenses.
LEX 18 first told you about Marjorie Gonzales in 2023 when she was indicted on multiple theft counts totaling more than $30,000. A former University of Kentucky sports official told us Gonzalez took money and other items from the person's home when Gonzalez was employed as a personal executive assistant.

Most likely she’s been at this for a number of years and just didn’t get caught till 2023. She should be doing community service and making restitution payments. It cost about $150 a day to keep someone like her incarcerated so if she were to get a couple years for these in discretions, it will cost the taxpayers $100,000 for two years of incarceration. The news media would be better served if they were to focus on illegal immigrants in this country that are committing crimes against citizens. This is an interesting story but it’s not that interesting. For the first Einstein to say that I support something like what this woman did, I don’t support any of it but I don’t want to pay any longer to keep her in jail if that’s what it takes. In some cases a $50 theft from a big box store particularly one that starts with a W will cost the municipality in the area about $2000 to have probable cause hearing and put them on bond. Remember the most they can get is a fine and some time in jail which I’ve already covered as not being optimal. Big box store lost 50 bucks and the taxpayers lost 2000.
