- BACK STORY: Recently, I was asked to do a promo for the re-release of Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band's third album, "DBOSB Goes To Washington.”
I agreed to jam, however, there was a rub. I have not seriously played Vibraphones since I stopped touring and performing in clubs decades ago. I then went into the ole storage unit and excavated my original Jenco Vibraphone Set that Dad bought me as a teen.
With the help of rubber bands, shoelaces, and a piece of foam material from my pillow (no not that idiot), I resurrected these bad boys. Unfortunately, the motor that gives it a gorgeous vibrato had shed its electrical coil and thus is no longer operable.
I also had to re-enter the old woodshed. I use to do this quickie warmup exercise to get me in focus to play. It involves a not-so-simple touch of dexterity. I thought it would take me hours to get it right but I nailed it on the first try. I was in utter disbelief. I tell ya Muscle Memory is a Wonderful Thing, Baby!!!

Doing that two arm rhythm coordination with those scale intervals on a Vibraphone is no joke.

I love what you are doing here....and no matter how many seconds or minutes they run, I am always wanting to see and hear more...that vibe sound really made all of your recordings with your bands so very unique and interesting...keep up the videos!!!!...just listened to Fresh Fruit in Foreign Places yesterday, been loving that album ever since it was released, I still play that one OFTEN...such a fine concept album, one of the greatest.
So jazzed that you shared that. I've been off the UA-cam grid for quite a while but plan to do more stuff along those lines; solo Vibraphone compositions, performance art, and additional demonstrations of my dexterity routines.
Yes Fresh Fruit is my fave album of ours. Thanks and be well.
