In 1994 Sweden signed the first treaty with NATO and since then Sweden has trained and even fought with NATO forces in amongst other actions Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. Even for the general public, it has been clear since the 80s that we sooner or later would become a part of NATO. I live way up in Sweden above the Arctic Circle and a month ago there was a very big Nato exercise in the north of Scandinavia.

    Makes me proud as a Swedish person. Honestly, Ukraine defeating Russia is great on a strategic level, but I think unlike some more far away countries we can empathize because we have a lot of eastern Europeans living in Sweden, everyone has a friend from the former soviet union and we've heard some of the horrible things that were done to you, and of course Russia has a habit of flying nuclear bombers into our airspace for fun, and the older generations remember the cold war back when we had a big military focus in society. What I'm saying is that thankfully it seems like my country despite not having been ruled by Russia has some understanding of how important this is, hopefully it'll be enough to keep support high, as far as I know we're one of the most united countries in supporting Ukraine. In Sweden, there was an accident in 1968 when a 155mm exploded in the chamber of a howitzer, some deaths and injuries. ALL live 155 was recalled and emptied of the explosive. Then repeated and refilled, because they suspected that it was air bubbles that was compressed as the grenade was fired and enough energy was released to ignite the grenade. The howitzer got a crack in the chamber but was restored to mint condition. And went on to be very accurate compared to others who had developed some play in bearings and such. In 1981 was the HE grenades released for peace time practice. This howitzer was the 4th gun in our battery when I did my conscripted service, and we had some officers that was in that unit when this occurred. They never talked about it, just acknowledged that they were present there when in happened. There is a peice of 8mm film that shows everything until the burst burnt the film.

      @Dave_Br Russia did not win WW2. The Soviet Union with their Ukrainian built T-34 tanks, along with the Allies and massive weapons support from the US won the war. The Soviet Union also started WW2 when they made a deal with Nazi Germany, to invade Finland and split Poland between them.
      Finland was drawn in to the war when they were invaded by the Soviet Union in 1939 with the Nazis blessing. The Finns only allied themselves with the Nazis to take back the lands Stolen by the Soviets during the Winter War, unaware of the secret protocols of The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. The current Finland was never overrun by the Soviets, they made a deal with Stalin to kick the Nazis out themselves. And then a deal with the Nazis to withdraw peacefully.

Target for completion of the new production line (and training the staff for it) is June 2025. It's probably the most modern facility in Europe at the moment and will possibly supply a quarter of Europe's contribution to Ukraine once it's complete. When it comes to the defense industry, people always talk about production lines like those at Ford or Audi, but it's mostly manual work. Something is ordered so rarely that it makes no sense to produce it any other way. There is no such thing as tanks on a treadmill. As long as we don't declare an emergency and mobilize, there won't be anything like that. The best example is WW2. Germany reached its highest level of arms production in 1944. This shows how sluggish arms production is.

    • @adamabele785
      @adamabele785 5 місяців тому +6

      @@CMarkem That is outdated. The new machines will not need filling by hand and put each round separately into the X-ray. They will just use the conveyor belt and produce about one grenade each minute. The metal parts come prefabricated from a different factory, but those take the longest time to produce. The newer production is also made with insensitive explosives, this means you no longer need bunkers for the end product.

    It's good to see Mr. Martin Stang observes suitable safety protocol - I'm certain those protective glasses would save his eyesight if one of those shells they were baking happened to go off only a few feet away, but I'm a bit disappointed that he so casually strolls straight through a door with a sign that clearly states hearing protection is mandatory in the next room, if Mr. Jönsson over there drops a shell and it goes off, he could get a serious ringing in his ears, maybe even a slight case of tinitus...

    By ww1 standards 6 inch shells are rather light.. its the quality of these munitions that makes the difference.. that's why they cost roughly 5.5k gbp per. As this quality allows extreme precision..
