      At times like this it may be hard to see the good, but look for it. Its worth seeing. I grew up with parents from Mississippi who were born in the 40s and grew up during desegregation. They were pretty bad when I was a kid, a total cliche. But these people have been devastated and upset along with the rest of the world in the wake of recent events. Donny Trump may think he has the old guard at his back to support his racist and tyrannical viewpoints, but the old guard is seriously changing their own views and choosing humanity. They are just now beginning to see what minorities have gone through in this country for decades, but they see it. Seeing my dad cry over Breonna Taylor and say "I wish her boyfriend had killed them all" should be eye opening to everyone. A 76 year old white man raised in the DEEP South isn't supposed to even care about a black woman.

    I’m a lawyer. Last year one Sunday after church, my family and I were arrested for speaking out against racial discrimination we received at an upscale movie theater. I still remember 8 officers coming up to us for no reason. We were illegally arrested and spent a night in jail.
    Slice, I completely understand the PTSD you’re suffering. People who have never experienced this, it is hard to understand the fear, anger, anxiety etc. I’m glad you’re moving through your fear and using your platform to help others. Stay encouraged through Christ. Love y’all.
    ALSO, DON’T TALK TO THE POLICE IF YOU’VE BEEN ACCUSED OR INVESTIGATED FOR A CRIME. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT. ASK FOR A LAWYER AND SHUT IT. PLEASE KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

      @@vlay8371 I think everyone is aware to that point, we learn about it in history class in school, we read the books, watch movies, learn about Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, watch documentaries, but understanding is completely different. You really don’t truly understand unless you’re going through it yourself., or if you’re personally connected to people who are going through it.

    • @ustiag
      @ustiag 4 роки тому +10

      vesna lay No one in these comments said education isn’t important. Of course we are supposed to learn history, but the realization and empathy doesn’t always click when you read words. Most of the time, education AND being around folk is better. What people fail to realize is education that is taught with no emotional connection is putting a learner or student at a deficit.
      Idk if you know this, but growing up these schools brought jewish ppl into the school to speak on their “suffering” in the holocaust. But in the school I went to... most of the children were black and not one day was dedicated for their great grandparents or grandparent to come in and talk about slavery or what it was like coming out of it. LIVE speech and interaction can invoke more emotion and be far more powerful when information is being shared. Just saying. 🙏❤️

      @bxbyjay8279 4 роки тому +4

      It don't matter how educated you are on any race if yk it's wrong/right then speak your mind. People gonna say what they wanna say and that's just how the world is, they ignorant. If you're Asian saying that not all police are bad, that's ok because that is true, that shouldn't offend your man or anybody. Don't let other's make you feel less "educated" on whatever culture it is because you're not black, etc. Sorry about what happened to you Matt, my mom's been through the same thing and she white, so it don't matter what race you are, their are bad police men that just feel like they have to hurt/kill/lock up someone for no reason to make themselves "feel good". These are bad times and it's only gonna get worse. READ REVELATION 6:3-4 (3 Then he unrolled the scroll to the second seal and broke it open, too. And I heard the second Living Being say, “Come!”
      4 This time a red horse rode out. Its rider was given a long sword and the authority to banish peace and bring anarchy to the earth; war and killing broke out everywhere.) This is the TLB version only because it's easier to read and my mom uses it as a comparison with the KJV because some translations add or take away from the original Hebrew text. If you read a little deeper into that part of Revelation you will understand what's going on now in the world and future.

    Glory, I had a similar talk with my friend. I posted about the bad cops vs. good cops. I was trying to defend the good cops. My friend got very upset and I didn’t understand until she said that I look like the girl holding a sign that reads ,” Not all men are bad!” At a MeToo rally. Something clicked. The world is already aware that there are good hearted cops. Shining light on that doesn’t help the fight, and right now we can’t defend them. We need everyone to focus on the bad ones. We need the good cops to feel shame for not standing up for innocent POC when their crooked partners or supervisors abuse their power. Like you, I was able to admit that I was wrong. It wasn’t the right time. It’s already common knowledge, but it doesn’t help the fight for justice. I am sooo sorry to hear Matt’s story. I was crying with y’all. I have been hearing so many stories about black men being mis tried for horrible crimes because cops and witnesses misidentified them. This is the breaking point.

      Hi Craig, Although you may have good intentions by saying all lives matter, please understand the real harm it’s unintentionally causing. The statement “all lives matter” is common sense. It goes without saying. And What you said is true, we are all made by God. But there are no blue or purple race people in this world. And people whose race is not white have faced great injustices over time; that is the first reality. Our second reality is that the value for black lives especially requires attention right now, as our society and country’s history demonstrate. I hope the image sheds light on this and you’ll reconsider simply saying “yes black lives matter” and finding a way to demonstrate this in your day to day life, not replying “all lives matter” and taking attention away from the fire that’s at hand. Appreciate you and your time if you’ve read all this. All the best to you and God bless.

    My brother, as a black male living in UK, this touched me differently. With America, it seems that not much has changed over the years with the treatment of black people. You have my life long respect for speaking out on this, and as you say, there are hundreds of thousands of young black males going through the same thing. Unfortunately for some, they don't have the backing of people around them or funds to get good lawyers - just look at what happened to the central park 5. They don't care who they get, if they fit the description of "black in America". It took ME educating MYSELF about the past in order to UNDERSTAND and realize what has been going on for decades and what continues to go on, to this day. Leggings and an oversized Hoodie. All we were doing was going to a Cafe and ordering our favorite drinks, and she had to go to the bathroom. And the “police officer” followed her. Also why would you ever need to educate any one on discrimination ? I don't have to be lack white or any color to see when something is wrong with the plight of black people. It pains me to my core when people of color pretend they don't understand what's going on. Here's a news flash for both you tuber's there was an Asian cop who stood by and watched George Floyd I say that to say this it's no secret in the black community the way Asian's see black people in this country as well. We have a long way to go and personally 400 years of training for people of non-color isn't going to go away because the old are training the new. It will only ever get better thru God.

    My parents had the same experience we were younger, the police raided the house and arrested him. He had an alibi and was innocent but they didnt believe him. My mom always says he never came back the same. My grandma had connections and got my dad one of the best lawyers in the state. It has happened to him 2 times after that...he beat them all. Nowadays he got so traumatized he actually started acting out and has a record. It happens alot in Bmore and most people arent as lucky as him. I've had bad situations with the police and its crazy I have to fear the people meant to protect me. I truly wish you healing take your time on telling your story and when you do you have all of our strength behind you. You did nothing wrong the police did simple as that, they already blamed you bc of your skin. We have to teach our SONS and DAUGHTERS how to handle the police bc I've seen it happen to just as many women living down here...make sure your kids know

    I remember when you and glory where going through this hard time. You guys would only post a little bit about it just explaining why you guys didn’t post as much but you couldn’t say as much because it was still a ongoing case. And Matt I am truly sorry that you had to go through that. And Glory. I remember you stood by him every day and that is just a small reason on why you are a really beautiful person. You made a simple slip on Instagram but your history shows you have always had Matt’s back. I love you both #SliceNRice

    Man, Matt and Glory, I admired you guys so much before. NOW!!?? Even more. Thanks for your courage and sharing. I can't imagine what you went through, but I am glad you came through...and God brought you out to give your Testimony. The world needs to hear what you have to share and God has given you the platform to help others find the courage to make their voices heard. Thank you and we are praying for you!!!

    Dude, Matt! I carried your grief in this video. This was heavy. Thank you for sharing your truth. Cyber hugs, brother. We will get through this. The voices of those who know that injustice needs to be addressed is being and will be heard. Some refuse to acknowledge the blatant racism, the covert racism, the subtle prejudices...but others are awakening. It is the unity of all our voices, the black, white, Chinese, Spanish, honest police, etc, voices that will break through the barrier. We will succeed.

    It’s so sad how the education system has failed us to the point where you can go to school for like 12 years and not know your basic human rights or even how the world works, shit is crazy

      @Small Acts of Kindness I'm sorry, but no. History class: Slavery ended. White people discriminated against colored people. This is what we did and now it's all fixed.
      She wouldn't have cared because SHE FELL FOR THE NARRATIVE THAT IF YOU DON'T DO SOMETHING BAD YOU DON'T GET INVOLVED WITH THE POLICE.
      Because, you know, people grow up hearing that.
      I think you are very ethnocentric. You think that just because you learned it one way everyone had the same experience. I don't know where the ____ you live but it wasn't like that for me growing up.
      But, you know:
      Some people don't want to hear about politics because it's shit right now. Some people are depressed. Some people don't have access to the internet. Some people are alone. Some people hate the news. Some don't have phones.
      And
      THE EDUCATION SYSTEM LITERALLY TELLS YOU THAT RACISM IS OVER. AT LEAST IN ASIAN AND WHITE DOMINATED COMMUNITIES LIKE DEL MAR IN SAN DIEGO.

    I’m so sorry Matt. I have two young sons and I fear for the future of my sons and my husband. I pray for them daily and I just pray that change comes before they are a victim. Even though your son will be mixed he will still be seen in America as a black man and will also need to be taught. It’s so sad that our boys have to grow up so fast.

    I respect you sharing your story so much. My boyfriend experienced the same thing as you, with a few exceptions of the charges and bail price. But I was there when he got arrested and it was such a heart wrenching thing to see. I tried to defend him but the officers still took him away all because he is black and because they assumed he was the one who committed the crime when he was completely innocent. I have seen how these things traumatize people, and it makes me sad that people of color have to go through these things and be stigmatized over one person's wrong doing, just as Glory had mentioned. Thank you for sharing this.
