    I am a retired PGA Professional and this is "so simple", yet so "right on"! I have found in my 48 yrs as a Golf Professional that SIMPLE is best, and this is great! After all, it's not Rocket Science!!!

    Thank you Mike for the great video. I have been struggling with different techniques for putting. I have been discouraged from using my right side as its not closest to the target. When I embraced my right side using your method I felt immediately better hitting some great putts. Thanks again.

    I've always been a poor putter, this is where my strokes come from on the scorecard. However, when I saw this video, I gave it a try. I instantly saw more consistency and much better putting. It has improved my score several strokes per round (mid handicapper) and has made putting much more simple and has taken the nerves out of it. Thank you so much!!

    I am unable to get to a course for a couple of weeks so I have just been practicing on the carpet and find this video to have been really helpful as it is simplifying the stroke by reducing the moving parts. Even the miss putts seem to roll better and the pace appears more controllable therefore more consistent with distance. I do putt with reverse grip and this feels OK. If a clip or comment on the different grips that players use and use this style of putting would also be good as I did revert to the claw grip for a while after watching Phil Mickelson as the standard grip just was not working for those short putts that end up being yippy putts turning into 3 putt greens. Shall keep my little fingers crossed when I get out onto the course. The saying 'keep it simple stupid' seems to be working in my practice. I just feel more comfortable standing over the ball. Back to some practice. From the Land Downunder.

    Great lesson, observed Tiger use one hand (right) when beginning practice putting before tournaments. I tried it and found my release feeling thru the putt was far better than two handed. You added arm control, not shoulder movement, which makes one hand technique great.

    I am 31, I experimented forever with golf swing styles until I finally found one that works best for me, that I can stick to. Side note I've always been a very good golfer my ball stoking abilities are definitely A caliber now, I attemped to qualify for the Reno taho open but just did not have my putting game down. Nor was i even clise to finding it at the time. I will defiantly give this technique a try, it sounds very brilliant. I hope it is the technique that works for me. Thanks for the post.

    THANK YOU for this tutorial! I'm just picking up the game in my 30s, and am doing well on everything but the putter. It just feels total foreign and uncontrolled when I follow through. I'm right-handed, but when I tried your method of isolating the arms, I found my right arm always flinches (almost as if it wants to "turn over"; no idea why) as the arc passes through the ball. My hand fluttering causes the ball to squirrel off in any direction on my putts. I isolated the left arm, and it's perfectly smooth all the way through. All I have to do is focus my energy on my left arm, and I'm sinking putts without any arm vibration at all. Great breakdown!!!

    Thanks for this, it seems to make so much sense. I'm a right hander but my left arm is dominant, and in practice have found much more confidence, especially when I relax both my arms and not being rigid. I find if I just use my left arm my sternum is still, but I feel I don't have enough control of the club. However if I use my right hand to support the club, then my shoulders move a little bit during the stroke. I assume I need to relax my right arm more, but I'll definitely work on it. Thanks

    Thank you for the helpfull tips. Bit of advice needed here. My putting is reasonable ok. My setup is arms hanging and body in a position that my eyes are looking directly down vertical over the ball. My putting stroke is straight back and straight through (no arc). However because of the angle of the putter head it sits slightly toe down. This occasionally misses the centre sweet spot resulting in short putts. I don't really want to change my putting set up and stroke. Would it be possible to either buy a putter that is square to the shaft or even get one custom fit?

    I've been using this method for years and it does work, however, I grip further down the club with my right hand, and hold the top of the putter with my left fingers, almost like a pencil. This is to just stabilize the top of the putter and make it more like a pendulum, I sometimes stand with an open stance almost like a 3/4 side saddle. I've been known to grip it with my index and middle finger knuckles which my friends and I call the "Camel Toe" grip, its more like gorilla knuckles :).

    I just tried the one arm style, purposely not adding the second hand - my issue has always been that I'm quite a muscular guy, but with very narrow shoulders (bone structure-wise), so my triceps and lats are extremely tight together. This makes any sort of shoulder/upper torso rotation without moving anything else nearly impossible - the one arm technique has instantly become more consistent both in accuracy and in pace control than 15 years (very intermittent) of classic putting techniques. I have a thick handle center shaft face balanced mallet style putter for reference. Might just be the weird guy on the course who putts with one arm from now on - thanks for posting this video!

    A simple lesson thank you. I try to take the putter straight back and straight through. I understand that the putter head will naturally go back to the inside then after striking the ball will continue to the inside. My question is, where in the stance will the putter head square up? I find that if I don't concentrate more on keeping the head square going through then I can either push out or pull to the left.

    great tip. So I need to ask you a quiestion. I was a fair putter on fast greens once I got a lite putter. I now have moved and the local course has very slow greens. If I hit hard enough to get there my line suffers. Would it be a help if I got a heavier putter to get more speed on the ball without hitting it harder

    • @CahillGolf
      @CahillGolf  10 місяців тому

      Generally speaking there is a well developed idea of using a heavier putter on slower greens however most confident putters don’t switch putter weights or swing weights between different length greens. I’d suggest getting used to one putter weight until it’s your best friend. The. just practicing different length putts in the practice green before your round for ten to fifteen minutes.

  • @RollYourRock

    Mike, have you experimented with one-handed chipping and pitching?

    • @RollYourRock
      @RollYourRock 8 років тому +1

      +Mike Cahill - Mike, were you aware of a European PGA Tour by the name of Jason Palmer who uses just his right arm (righty) to hit all his shots inside 40 yds? Yes, he has the "chipping/pitching yips".
      Mike, have you considered that it may be possible to hit some pitch shots far more effectively one-handed rather than with two? Think about it... with two hands on the club, you're physically restricting the length of swing arc. This especially being more true for us older players. It seems to be possible with the increased arc, the more naturally felt rhythm (feeling the weight of the clubhead) and the shallower attack angle, that you can create more spin with less arm speed. Try this on 20-25 yd shots off tight lies to tight pins....

      Kinger yes good question. If he lines this up after the fulcrum point (center stance - sternum) and strokes it properly, the putter head will obviously be somewhat closed at impact., thus I am trying this lined up center of heel. please note I am trying this out of desperation anyway, my putting has always been atrocious.

    It seems to me that my dominant putting arm is opposite... right handed but left arm is more comfortable. So I assume I grip the putter opposite of your video...back of left hand faces the hole. How do you recommend I place my right hand on the putter in this scenario?

      mark felman I think a variation of this is the claw grip styles you see many pros using. Their front hand is more stable so they try to take their trail hand out of the stroke.

    OMG this works. It is pouring down rain so I can't go out. But I am making 8 footers in my hallway like I can't believe. Right over my cup coaster.
    I don't agonizingly line them up, just aim and they go in for some reason.

    Thank you Dave! I’m going to try this I’m shooting consistent low 80’s but need to eliminate 3 putts. I will update in a month to give you some feedback.

    So if I feel more comfortable and in better control just using my left hand should I be putting with a left handed putter?

      Not unless you feel more comfortable and in control using a lefty putter. Totally fine if not better to have the lead arm being the dominant arm in the stroke. I ‘d also suggest playing around with a left hand low grip and see how it feels.

    I golf left handed, but my right hand is dominant. will this still work with the lead arm?

      Hopefully this helps, I've gotten a Lot better this year but the thing holding me back was putting. When my putting was on I would shoot 36's but the days it wasn't I struggled to get in the thirties. (High school golfer btw)
